i was poking around some fantasy notes, and i saw a few guys that are rumored to be possible cut casualties...
is there a guy around the league that, when cut, will have you in line to say WE GOTTA GET THIS GUY?...
i'll give you my top choice...Michael Clayton WR Tampa Bay...
he's grossly underachieved in Tampa, who might keep him for a potential trade, but they also may cut him...he's 6-3 215, and did put up over 1000 yds, 7 TDs his rookie year...given our current WR depth, i'd drop Carter, maybe Wilson, or one of the 3rd string/STs LBs to put him on the roster...
thoughts on the guy?...do you have your own final cut candidate to watch?...

The last thing this team needs is another underachieving WR. Seriously.
I will wait until Sunday or Monday for my 'gotta get this guy'. I have no idea who is going to be on the market.
I would be scouring the waiver wire for a run stuffing DE.

I really hate thinking about this until I actually see who's available, but Clayton is another one of those guys that isn't cutting it.. I don't think we need that kinda guy... not at this point anyway.

A WR that can catch, would be a great addition to Joe J. Maybe someone with more speed and then we can just pick the def's off with Joe and this new WR. We can then use Braylon and Wilson as bait thinking we might throw it their way.

I think by default, with spots on the Final 53 being so valuable, that the guy would have to have either incredible talent or would have to be coming from a similar system to make it worth while.
Remember, if you are adding someone, you gotta cut someone, so it's gotta be worth it.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

My top choice (thanks to EO) would be Huston the kicker who was from OSU and is with New York. I'm starting to have doubts about Dawson and I think if he struggles we can bring him in. Obviously kickers aren't put on the PS but I wanted to get his name out there.

don't 2 underachievers = an overachiever? ...personally, i think there's lots of reasons guys underachieve, and not all of them are uncorrectable...i'm looking for talent, and if our Mr. Chandler thought he had a shot at becoming a long-term roleplayer, i'd drop a guy like Unck, Clifton Smith, or Carter in a second...and i like those guys...

well, then you missed the point entirely...this was about the guy you would hope gets cut in order for us to jump on him...if you don't wanna play that game, don't respond...

i understand the concern about Dawson, although i don't particularly agree...but would you honestly feel better with an off-the-street Huston lining up for a gamewinner against the Dolphins simply b/c Dawson had gone 7-10 in the first 5 games?...

Ok... umm... I want Julius Peppers to get cut.
On a more serious note... didn't Joe mention how complex this offense is? Wouldn't it be silly to pick up someone who wouldn't understand the ins-and-outs of the offense until November?

I agree with dnadawg... if you dont want to participate (realistically) then you dont need to respond to the post.
Personally? While I dont quite believe the rumors.. but if Chris Chambers is available i'd get him providing it wasnt too expensive, he is a great deep threat just.. not so good at some of the other things. We got a pos receiver in Joe, and Chris would be a upgrade over Tim Carter regardless of what you think of Chris.

I would vote for David Ball from Chicago. He's an undrafted rookie from NH, but dude's got hands. BTW, he was the one who made that one handed grab in the end zone, but came down out of bounds. Also all he did in college was break some guy named Jerry Rice's career TD record....

yes, and i wouldn't expect the move to pay off right away...but the timing of it is the very reason he'd be cheap and worth a look, IMO...and outside of maybe 8 ST plays, a guy like Mason Unck will never see the field, either...his ceiling is like shoebox high, while Clayton's is nearly as high as Braylon's...i would think that sort of [dangerous word coming] potential, we could find someone to fill the monumental gap left by dropping Mason Unck...

Give me Tank Johnson.
He's already been cut, and he's sitting around waiting for a call. He's young, stays healthy, and he's a beast.
Yes he had some off field problems. But I'm willing to take a chance on him. With guys like Willie, Andra Davis and Big Ted...I don't see a locker room that will allow a "thug" mentality to grip in the locker room.
We need help on D-line. Adding him could give us an extra 2-4 wins this year with an improved rushing D.

I'd rather get a young WR who was UDFA is HUNGRY and trying to prove to the world that they are good enough to make it... ie a man out of Kent State by the name of Joshua Cribbs...
We don't need a big name WR... we have Braylon and Winslow... we have Joe Jurevicious..

For no good reason, Leftwich. I've always liked his potential, and he would fit into what the Browns are looking to do. But it's not realistic...
Probably Eddie Drummond if he hadn't signed with the Chiefs

McCardell was cut from the Texans. Not saying we sign him to play, he has some nagging injuries; rather sign him since he started here in Cleveland, let him retire a Brown.
As to a 'wish' player, tough to say because we don't yet know all of the cuts. However a young WR or DL signed to our practice squad would be a good move, imo.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

I'm with ya, if there is anything we need most its DL help. if we could turn this guy around, then turn him loose to stuff the run, it'd be a win-win. this is definately one of those medium risk-high reward situations.

i see your point, and i don't want us becoming criminatti north either, but maybe have RAC schedule a meeting w/ the guy and see. then again, maybe there's more to it than meets the eye and that's why he hasn't been picked up. 'tis a shame, kids got a lot of talent

I think someone would take a flier on him. I sure wouldn't mind. Give him a one and done type deal. You screw up, you're out.

Qasim Mitchell was just released! Sign him up! The Cardinals also released Lang Campbell as well as Buster Davis who has their 3rd round draft pick.

Maybe you should start a cut player thread. It would be nice to put them all together. Davis was cut because he hasn't performed well yet. Wisenhutt said he was keeping the best 53 period. No room for him to grow. They also cut last years 6th round draft pick who is 312 pound DT. Johnathan Lewis, Va Tech.

Yeah, I thought about a separate thread, but I'm too lazy to throw them together. I was just browsing KFFL and there's not much out there yet, but Buster Davis and Bethel Johnson. The rest are pretty much no names.

I don't understand the Buster Davis thing. They want to sign him to the PS but they are taking a huge risk IMO. Giving up on a 3rd rounder from this year.

Yeah, you gotta survive waivers......if someone else wants him, buh-bye. Anyone hurting for a depth for LB's will take him. That defintely wouldn't be us though. Maybe Amobi Okoye will get cut......

Yeah there is a kid that has really impressed me in the little that I have seen of him...mostly in garbage time as he is 4th on the depth chart of the 49ers.
Thomas Clayton, RB rookie drafted in the 6th round. Every time I've seen him after the starters get taken out and I'm like wowed by his running. And I'm thinking well no way they will get rid of him. Of course they have Gore and when I checked their depth chart he is listed as #4. Maybe a kid to be released and then put on the practice squad???
But in the spirit of your thread...yeah this kid Thomas Clayton - he'd be a good backup for Jamal. There is something special about him.

do you think he has starting potential down the road, or that he would simply be a better backup than the guys we've got, after learning the system?...

I didn't see a lot of him. But sometimes you don't have to. I just watched cause it was football and I couldn't sleep and when this kid ran the ball I immediately thought "WOW" he's an NFL RB. I'm usually right when I'm wowed by somebody.

Another rookie Rb on the bubble is Pierre Thomas with the Saints (out of Illinois). They have Bush and McAllister and it's doubtful he will beat out Pittman. But he looked really good in preseason.
