The Browns have requested permission to interview Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, New Orleans Saints assistant head coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell, New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni and Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, a former Cleveland linebackers coach, according to multiple reports.
They have reached out to former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, the Toronto Sun reported, and they’re expected to interview Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak, according to SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Dorsey wouldn’t disclose which candidates he’ll interview. Asked about Flores, Dorsey called him “a very highly qualified young man.” In response to a question about McCarthy, Dorsey said, “I have a lot of respect for Mike McCarthy and for what he’s done.”
The Miami Dolphins fired coach Adam Gase on Monday — eight NFL teams are now seeking head coaches — and he’s another name to watch because Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has pursued him in the past. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is another coach with whom the Browns have flirted previously during Haslam’s reign. https://www.ohio.com/sports/20181231/bro...ok-at-everybodyPoll on your preference: https://www.dawgtalkers.net/ubbthreads.php/topics/1577463/1

We've really gone all ove rthe map here
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I imagine GW's interview going something like this:
John: "Gregg, Tell us... (chew-chew) tell us your plan for the Browns, buddy boy."
Gregg: "My plan? I'll tell ya my plan, John. Who's the winningest coach since Blanton Collier & Paul Brown. Raise your hand. Uh--- Me! It's me! I'm the winningest coach since Blanton Collier & Paul Brown. What more would you like to know, John?"
John: "Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Where do you see the team in five years?"
Gregg: "The Hall of BLEEPing fame The whole team, enshrined immediately, even though they're still playing, cause I'm doin' what no other mother-BLEEPER done since 1963.
John: "Okay. Okay, buddy boy. You've given us a lot to think about."
Gregg: "Damn straight. Don't think too long, either, I have at least a dozen offers."
John: "We'll let ya know, Gregg. Great job this year. Really, I mean that."
Gregg: "Say hi to Trish and the kids."

We've really gone all ove rthe map here We're really covering all the bases. We have the CEO type (Dan Campbell, who has never called plays), the offensive genius (a bunch of them), some retreads (Munchak, McCarthy), and the young guys (Flores and Eberflus).

I would like to see Gregg Williams remain as the head coach with Kitchens continuing as OC. I have been thinking that Dorsey really doesn't have a favorite he is considering because of all the candidates rumored to be interviewing for the Browns job. If Dorsey really had a preference I doubt he would want to waist time with interviewing coaches who he's not interested in hiring. Unless this is to appease Haslam. If Williams is his man or Kitchens, he knows they aren't going anywhere until the Browns make their decision. All the others, there is no gurantee.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

I am not a fan of Mike McCarthy the former Green Bay coach. He had Aaron Rodgers. With Rodgers the Pack should be the NFC's version of the New England Patriots. Belicheck and Brady make the playoffs every year. As QB talent goes I have read many say Rodgers has the most QB skill of any QB in the NFL so he should be at least the equivalent of Rodgers. So it must be that Belicheck is so much better than McCarthy.

Im a little surprised Arians isn't on the list.
Unrelated, but related, Kitchens is supposedly on the Cardinals list as well.

From Dorsey's presser...I have a feeling Haslem is going to have final say, and that scares me a lot...I hope I'm wrong...
I do not want another rebuild, change in schemes, dumping off salaries and coaches, etc...I hope we retain Kitchens and Gregg Williams.

I am surprised that Dave Toub isn't on that list yet.
Toub is a great coach, and no one in the NFL has worked harder and dseserves a chance as a head coach more than Toub. Toub comes off the Reid tree and was with Reid in Philly and later KC. Toub had the best Special teams unit in the league multiple years in Chicago. He is so good at what he does in KC that Reid made him Assistant Head Coach to prevent other teams from poaching him.
If the Browns are going to interview multiple people for this job, they would be doing this organization a disservice by not interviewing Dave Toub.
Dave Toub just screams Cleveland Browns coach. Not only is he a hard working lunch pail kinda guy this city can identify with, but the guy is a phenomenal teacher and coach and has done nothing but succeed every place he has been.
This guy is the most bright up and coming coach the NFL has seen in the last decade. When Toub get his shot as a HC he will be successful because the guy is so driven. It would be really nice for him to get his shot here if they don't want to retain Willaims.
If we don't keep Willaims, Dave Toub is the perfect fir for our head coach and makes the most sense of everyone available...

no doubt haslam has final say. Dorsey will do his best but at the end of the day, Haslam must turn the key
And I think he likes two guys: Gase and McDaniels

I'm not naïve enough to believe that Haslam will have no input - I'm sure he'll have to sign off on any decision Dorsey makes - but I am hoping that the choice will be Dorsey's on whom Haslam has to sign off on, and not Dorsey having to settle on Jimmy's edict.

Hope Cardinals get him. Maybe he sees it isn't here for him. This Haslam thang about wanting Tase really makes me hate every part of this possibility.
Haslams should have some input or direction; but this is almost immediately wrong if we are gonna rely on his judgment to ignore Dorsey. Just hate that totally. Let Dorsey build you a shot at an empire. You cannot manage that.
This whole thing is going to waste this season's progress.

It's like being a Father..your daughter meets a guy...she brings him home to meet you to get your approval...or not ! Funny story. My 16-17 year old daughter was to go on a date with a new guy for the first time. He showed up at the door wearing a Rolling Stones T....the lips and tongue, and his motorcycle in the drive. I told him to go home, come back with a collard shirt and a car or don't come back. He couldn't come back because he didn't have a car. So be it. My daughter loves me now, and thanks me, but she hated me then, and even my wife was a bit ticked, mostly because Katy was upset, but I didn't care. I dealt with the boys dating my daughter. If they didn't pass my test, it didn't happen. No way, no how. I was unrelenting....still am to be honest.

I mean really, it's foolish to think otherwise. Head Coach is a senior position on the team. The owner, be it Jimmy or any other owner is going to have some say over senior positions.
Think about it. Flip side; do you really think Jimmy is going to let the organization spend 10's or maybe 100's of thousands of dollars going through and exhaustive HC search, telling the world it's Dorsey's job to find the right guy, then reject his recommendation to say, "no, we're going with Josh McDaniels cause I know and like him."? 1) I don't believe Dorsey would put up with that. I think he'd resign first. 2) I don't think a man who built his father's couple of gas stations into a multi-billion dollar giant of the industry would do something that stupid. He knows he's made mistakes and he knows he has a top notch GM in Dorsey. I doubt he will spend the time and money then turn it all into a charade by ignoring Dorsey's recommendation.

No offense, but I think some people misinterpreted the comments about who was doing what in regards to hiring the coach.
I'm not getting on you because I am sure you read such things on here and believed them. It's one of my pet peeves about posters not misrepresenting the truth on here because it misleads honest posters such as yourself.
I think [emphasis on I think] that Dorsey is going to "lead" the search, but that the Haslams are still going to be involved in the final decision.
There is a lot of wriggle room there. Dorsey is doing the work. He is heading the search. But, who does the actual hiring is not clear from the the information that was presented.
My guess is that they hope they all agree on whom the guy should be, but I have a hunch the Haslams won't hire a guy they don't approve of or dismiss a candidate that Dorsey doesn't have as his number one guy.
That last paragraph is just a guess on my part and I have no inside information.

I'm sure Jimmy and Dee are part of the search committee and they will have input on the decision making process. And I'm equally sure that Dorsey will include their input in making his selection. What I don't believe is that, having gone through the process, Jimmy would just throw it all aside and hire someone not on the list just cause he wants to. That's what has posters gnashing their teeth. I simply don't see it happening that way.

We agree for the most part, but we disagree when you say that Dorsey is going to make the final decision and the Haslams simply have a voice. Go do a search and look at the exact wording of the comments.

I don't think I ever said I thought it was Dorsey's decision, I said (or at least meant to say) it was Dorsey's job to do the search and make his recommendation. I also think, having been part of the process, Jimmy will accept that recommendation.
