Well, Duke can definitely use more prayers tonight. He has thrown up several times, and doesn't want to get up at all. He is drinking water, but is refusing food. I have to hope I can get him to the vet tomorrow. He's not going to be able to help himself get into the truck.

He just started drinking a little more, but he isn't able to stand right now. Id wonder if he caught a cold or something, but that wouldn't explain his weakness. I have to somehow get him to the vet in the am. Not sure how I am going to get him in the car.

Just my experience, they should check him for anemia, check his blood values, and do an xray. Expecially an xray.

I'm going to get whatever tests the vet suggests .... but if there isn't much of a chance for him, then I'm not going to put him through more surgeries, and such.

Duke is lying on the floor in the kitchen, where he's been for the past 6 or 7 hours. He'll lift up his head when I come into the kitchen, like "Oh boy, what are we doing?" ..... then "Never mind", and he lays his head back down.

Fortunately my brother was willing and able to take tomorrow off, so I can get Duke to the vet. We're going to have to carry him on a blanket, or something, because he just doesn't seem strong enough to walk.

I forget who it was that once said that love isn't easy. They were right though. crazy

Man, I took Duke to the vet, and I was sure it was for the last time.

Vet checks him over, and he's got a serious case of ........ gas and bloating. crazy Vet charged me $12 for a shot .... which I thought was rather expensive given that it wasn't even top shelf. (buh dum ba) Seriously though, he gave him the shot for the gas, bloating, and nausea, and gave me food instructions, and sent us home.

Man I am so, so, so very relieved. Thank God! laugh

I just hope it continues. I have put so much wear and tear on my poor back in the past week that I can barely stand up.

rofl One of the funniest jokes I ever heard came from Gene Tracy. The language is bad, so I can't play it here. If you have about 3 minutes, google up "Gene Tracy Piccolo player"

Well, Duke has had some ups and downs, but he seems to be trending upward right now.

He spent the last 4 days just laying down. He would not get up on his feet. He was laying in the kitchen, which wasn't too bad for me .... because, linoleum floor ...... but he was isolated.

I went to the store and picked up a nice, thick rug, and some bed pee pads, (the people at Wal-Mart had to be wondering what was wrong with me .... bed pee pads and Pediacare ...lol) and managed to drag him into the dining room where he could at least see me when I spoke to him.

I made him site up on his front paws last night and this morning, even though he didn't want to engage his back legs. I had to go get a blood test at the hospital, which my doctor neglected to fax in, and then went to the store for a few items. I got home and asked him if he wanted to go outside, and he actually got up, made the rounds of the yard, (with one small sit down rest break) climbed the 3 steps to get back to the house, and then inside. He's not all the way back, but I was happy to see him moving a little anyway. He's still really leaky though.

I have an update.

Duke is doing great! He is back to eating, and is probably stronger than he's been in quite a while. He actually ran after something in the back yard. (before all of this snow hit) He still leaks a bit, especially when he hears something he needs to bark at, but I have stock in Equate bed sheets now, and I still have a number of them on the floor around the house. It's nowhere near what it was though, and he seems to be getting better and better and better, He has been able to get up and down the stairs without a problem, and sleeps on the bed. (which makes him as happy as can be)

He's definitely peeing well when he goes outside. I have cut out all of the hard treats, because they could have contributed to his stones, and he got too many anyway. He is eating 4 times/day, but has lost about 10# more. (a guess, but he is trimmer looking)

I think that the worst is over. Duke is 12 ....and is a big dog .... so I don't know how many more years he has in him, but he's doing great right now.

Great news YTown! There are some people that I feel underestimate the bond between a man and his dog. I'm not one of those people.

Since this thread popped back up ....

Duke is doing amazingly well. Man, he acts like he's 6 or 7 again. His ears perk like they haven't in years, he bounces around like he hasn't in years, and he has actually run a few times in the last week. Many not a full out run like when he was a pup ..... but more of a run than he's done in years.

I am giving him home cooked food, rice and meat, and it seems to be doing well for him. He is getting no more of the hard treats .... biscuits .... chewies ... etc .... but he doesn't seem to mind when he's getting chicken breast and beef roast.
