I think John Dorsey should run away w/the Executive of the Year award. Take a look at the roster. I may have made a mistake or two when I formatted this, but I think it is pretty accurate. The new players to the roster this year are highlighted in green. By my count, that is 34 of the 53 players, which is a whopping 64 percent of the roster. 52 Armstrong, Ray-Ray LB 55 Avery, Genard OLB 20 Boddy-Calhoun, Briean CB 31 Burris, Juston CB 11 Callaway, Antonio WR 38 Carrie, T.J. DB 24 Chubb, Nick RB 93 Coley, Trevon DT 51 Collins, Jamie OLB 4 Colquitt, Britton P 63 Corbett, Austin OG 94 Davis, Carl DT 87 DeValve, Seth TE 88 Fells, Darren TE 33 Gaines, Phillip CB 95 Garrett, Myles DE 69 Harrison, Desmond OT 81 Higgins, Rashard WR 25 Hilliard, Dontrell RB 59 Hines, D'Juan LB 74 Hubbard, Chris OT 47 Hughlett, Charley LS 29 Johnson, Duke RB 17 Joseph, Greg K 68 Kalis, Kyle OG 26 Kindred, Derrick CB 80 Landry, Jarvis WR 6 Mayfield, Baker QB 39 Mitchell, Terrance CB 85 Njoku, David TE 90 Ogbah, Emmanuel DE 65 Ogunjobi, Larry DT 22 Peppers, Jabrill FS 19 Perriman, Breshad WR 91 Price, Brian DT 23 Randall, Damarious SS 18 Ratley, Damion WR 78 Robinson, Greg OT 53 Schobert, Joe MLB 50 Smith, Chris DE 9 Stanton, Drew QB 5 Taylor, Tyrod QB 27 Thomas, Tavierre CB 92 Thomas, Chad DE 64 Tretter, JC C 54 Vallejo, Tanner LB 21 Ward, Denzel CB 71 Watford, Earl OG 35 Whitehead, Jermaine DB 56 Woodson-Luster, Xavier LB 70 Zeitler, Kevin OG 97 Zettel, Anthony DE
Dorsey also made two huge coaching decisions this year. He replaced Hue Jackson and Todd Haley w/Gregg Williams and Freddie Kitchens. The atmosphere is changing before our very eyes in Cleveland. This guy has always been respected as a talent evaluator and now I know why. Consider that Dorsey did all of that in only one year. He took a team that was 0 and 16 and got them to damn near .500. I do think it all starts w/the roster and I am so glad that we replaced Sashi Brown w/John Dorsey.

Someone else agrees w/me: Why John Dorsey should be NFL Executive of the YearByJosh Edwards 6 hours ago The work started in December of 2017 for Cleveland Browns General Manager John Dorsey. By the time the new league year opened in March, the executive had orchestrated deals to bring quarterback Tyrod Taylor, wide receiver Jarvis Landry and free safety Damarious Randall to Cleveland. Those deals were instrumental in solidifying starting roles on offense and defense. Through the course of the season, Taylor provided a lot of leadership and information to rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield. The impressive off-season continued into the 2018 NFL Draft. It was controversial when Cleveland used the No. 1 and No. 4 overall selections on Mayfield and cornerback Denzel Ward. Those two players combined to win NFL Rookie of the Week nine times this season. There is a strong chance that both players will represent the franchise at the NFL Pro Bowl this year. The strong draft contributions continued where the team added running back Nick Chubb, outside linebacker Genard Avery and wide receiver Antonio Callaway; all of which started multiple games this season. Chubb won NFL Rookie of the Week two times as well. They found an intriguing option, Desmond Harrison, at left tackle as an undrafted free agent as well. The executive also did a great job of trading away pieces that were not a part of the team's long-term plan, including wide receivers Josh Gordon, Corey Coleman as well as defensive tackle Danny Shelton. As the culture begins to change, highly regarded cast offs from other teams like left tackle Greg Robinson and wide receiver Breshad Perriman may have secured a future with the Browns. Dorsey was taking over a team that finished 0-16 last season and just 1-15 the prior year while being handcuffed with the idea of keeping head coach Hue Jackson. When he was finally empowered to fire the coach - as well as offensive coordinator Todd Haley - midway through the season, Cleveland took off. They finished with a 7-8-1 record, including a 5-3 record during the second half of the season. If a decision had been made earlier, the Browns would likely be in the playoffs and possibly AFC North division champions. RELATED: Dorsey's trade record with the Browns is near spotless Indianapolis Colts General Manager Chris Ballard and Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Pace are two other strong candidates for NFL Executive of the Year. Both have done a fantastic job for their organizations but it falls short of what Dorsey was able to accomplish. Ballard arguably had the best NFL Draft class and he showed that he was able to bounce back from Josh McDaniels declining the head coaching position at the very last moment after all other NFL head coaching positions had been filled. However, the team received a big boost with the return of quarterback Andrew Luck. Pace had a top five defensive player fall into his lap when Jon Gruden traded pass rusher Khalil Mack. The franchise already had quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in place from the previous year. He did make the right decision to hire head coach Matt Nagy, retain some key defensive free agents and bolster the wide receiver room. Both teams are in the playoffs but Dorsey had to find his quarterback in 2018. He is the right choice for NFL Executive of the Year. NFL executive voted Philadelphia Eagles executive Howie Roseman 'NFL Executive of the Year' in March. https://www.google.com/search?client=fir...160.MN5qApK9MXE

There are only 18 players left from the 53 man roster of 2017.
There will be even less of them next season. Talk about rebuilding a roster with success. Well there you have it.
The man is a genius when it comes to analyzing talent or the lack there of.
Results speak for themselves. The man deserves it.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I think its prolly a landslide also .... only other one that could even be considered is dude from the Windy City ... Bro ... when i did my optimism thread this was he reason why ... i looked at our roster and had to do a quadruple take to make sure my eyes weren’t decieving me .... *L* We had TALENT on it ... and i had NO CLUE then how good Ward, Randall, Obi and a few others would be ... or how bad TT would be and how good Bake would play for a rookie ... I was talking with a good friend last night that is a niners fan ... i told him this draft could go down in history as good as the one when the Niners had drafted 3 secondary players that all made the pro bowl there rookie years .... In FA Randall and VICE GRIPS were LITERALLY STEALS .... no one talks about it ... but the Kizer for Randall trade was as big a FLEECING as T Rich to the colts ... ARE U KIDDING ME ... and they GAVE US Vice Grips appearantly cause Gase wanted him to go to football hell ... well KJ has us TRENDING in an entirely diferent direction ... I have one more HUGE POINT to make ... it may change the course of the thread so I’ll wait til its ran its course .... No one else better mention it though ... *LOL* ... GREAT TOPIC ... there could be some fun discussion if its allowed to stay on course ...

Just a few notes:
I copied the roster down a week or so ago. Not sure if there are more recent changes.
I also went through the roster and did it off the top of my head. I apologize if I made any mistakes.
Also, Kirksey isn't on the active roster but is part of the team. On the other hand, EJ Gaines isn't on the active roster, but he was a new addition this year. I just ignored the reserve guys because it would just make things more confusing.
I think that w/all of that said, it's rather apparent that John Dorsey did a great job of bringing in some "real players."

We all kind of know these things, but when you see it right in front of your eyes, it's astounding as to what Dorsey did.
Think about it.
--A completely new QB room. Baker, Taylor, and Stanton. Then, Dorsey somehow managed to trade all three of the worthless qbs we had last year. LOL........that is amazing. That right there is worth Exec of the Year.
--Then he gets rid of the slime ball Kenny Britt and trades Coleman, who was a massive underachiever. He brings in Landry, Calloway, and Britt. Another amazing feat!
--Look at what he did w/the secondary. It was the worst in the league. He drafts Ward w/the 4th overall pick. Brings in Mitchell, Carey, and Gains. Instant upgrade at corner. And then he makes the insane trade for Randall. Are you kidding me.
Dorsey should run away w/the award.
A couple of more things. LOL...I'm stoked.
I admit that I was disappointed in our draft, but Dorsey nailed it. Baker, Ward, and Chubb were great picks. Guys like Avery and Calloway have promising futures.
Man, I can't wait to see what he does this year!!!!

I can't edit my original post, but I forgot to highlight Joseph.
That makes it 35 new dudes which puts the percentage at 66%.

What's nice about all of this, is he built a solid core in one year, and now has the ability to select BPA at any pick. He will now have the ability to create good depth. That has been missing for decades. It is how teams like the Steelers maintain a high quality roster. They eliminate needs by loading the roster with good talent that just waits in the wings until their time has come. IMO, that's how "dynasty" teams come about. I hope he goes into this draft looking to get as many of the top players he can at the spots we are picking. Load this roster up with talent and let them grow together.
RIP, Jim

Dorsey did well in finding talent in every crevice.
He did well in the draft, trades, and free agency.
The most important thing he did was to can that clown Hue Jackson who couldn't win a game if he had the 1972 Dolphins. If he could have convinced Haslam to do that when he was hired, we might be watching the Browns again this weekend.

The only argument against Dorsey is an argument for someone else. Chris Ballard did great for the Colts nailing their first two picks and recovering well after the McDaniels disaster. Ryan Pace did great in building the team to play to Trubisky's strengths.
But no one flipped improved their roster better than Dorsey. He made some brilliant moves (Randall for Kizer) and nailed the franchise QB pick. That's huge. If he was able to add hiring someone like Matt Magy to his accomplishments then I think he wins in a runaway.
In the end, I think Chris Ballard wins because his team had more success, but John Dorsey probably should win.

I liked some of his trades and FA moves, but not all of them. I was so disappointed w/our draft, but the dude nailed it. I didn't want coaches fired, but the team played better after the changes. Who the hell am I to question who he hires as HC after he has proven himself in such an explosive manner? I have a few preferences, but right now, I'm going to trust John Dorsey. I hope Haslam does the same.

It's a big decision for this organization. I know he's smart enough to think things through and consider the pieces he's put together here. I'm not too concerned he'll bring someone in who will disrupt his players styles to any extreme or try to pidgeon hole them into a system they're not suited for. Trust he will not hire anyone with the idea of massive player turnover either.

There should be no question although the Bear's guy will get some attention.
But when you look at the whole picture, no doubt.
That is a big reason I am so calm about the head coach hire.
Haslam may be many things but he can not ignore what has transpired under Dorsey and the time frame it happened.
That is why he said Dorsey will lead the search.

We basically had an 8 game swing with one offseason. It’s not like we actually won a few games either. We were going the way of the 70s bucs. Enter Dorsey and in one season changed the course of the franchise. He’s a bit of enigma. Doesn’t look the part but man he knows which strings to pull and he’s put together one of the best staffs I’ve seen in years in the nfl. We have 3 potential gms helping with this. Not a surprise Dorsey won executive of the year before. Dude knows how to build football teams

Dorsey is what I've wanted for the franchise for a long time and while some might feel that Dorsey is deserving of such of an award, I believe Dorsey would say "not yet", because there is so much more that needs to be done.

Quite the roster grid there. The grind was ongoing, but Dorsey really made solid additions overall, and especially helped with some folks leaving.
He deserves well-earned recognition in my opinion. Hope we keep Haslams from mucking this up.
I will trust him because he has proven he is a good judge of football matters and of player talent.

Dorsey should be the front runner for the award for two reasons:
1. He had a good draft (one that got us our franchise QB) 2. He fired the worst HC in the history of sports mid-season and the team rallied immediately.
It's not the roster turnover which, actually, is rather insignificant since (1) so many were backups/ reserves, (2) it encompassed new draft picks (which most are usually kept for as least one year AND we had more than usual due to the past regime) or (3) some big time names that we added failed in their expected worth/production.
That said, Dorsey deserves credit in keeping the team stable after what seems like a pretty bad situation between coaches/players and communicated a vision that I think so many of the players bought into.
I think most people on here feel comfortable with Dorsey leading another draft. There are some things I am concerned with and that will be free agency, in particular. I would hope Dorsey sticks to his strength more than anything else....drafting.

People may disagree, but...
You are right, Dorsey's best move was the trade of Kizer for Randall.
And I say that because I highly doubt the previous regime makes that move and its one of the best moves I've seen.

I don't think this would have been something the previous regime would have done, primarily because they didn't know Randall. Guys like Highsmith and Wolf did. But that's normally what happens in regime changes, the new guys identify players they are familiar with. Dorsey, coming from KC, brought Terrance Mitchell & Orsen Charles to Cleveland. In 2019 FA, it will be interesting to see what KC and GB players are restricted/unrestricted FAs. There might be a few targets the FO has in mind.

I agree he has to be Executive of the year.
One correction.
17 Joseph, Greg K
I believe Gonzalez was our guy that was on the team last season and started this year as Kicker once we let him go after the Saints game that is when Dorsey brought on Greg Joseph...if I recollect correctly???

Sorry to hear that...but never the less he was on the roster from last year. My point of course which I know you weren't disagreeing was,
He was noted in the red color of players depicting he was pre Dorsey. considering he is a rookie I believe and he came to us after the season started he should also be in the GREEN list of players. Chalk another up to that roster change.

A non-draft acquisition, yes, I like Randall most compared to the other moves. I guess my thoughts on this was drafting Mayfield was an easier call. The previous regime most likely makes the same selection. This part reminds me when everyone said reggie Mackenzie was a genius GM because he selected Mack and Carr when they fell in his lap. Dorsey's definitive moves for me was drafting Ward over Chubb, taking Chubb instead of someone like Guice and trading for Randall. Still, time is needed for these moves, but to me the most impressive is Randall. It was said when he was hired that Mayfield was his guy all along. However, passing on mayfield in my mind would have been grounds for dismissal.

Yeah, I caught the Josehph thing after I posted it. I tried to edit, but the time elapsed.
tab, I find it amazing what Dorsey was able to do in just one year. We had the worst roster in the NFL the previous two years and now we are so, so much better. And that is true at some very important positions.
The best move that Haslam ever made was replacing Sashi w/Dorsey. Like I said earlier in this thread......I was initially disappointed w/our draft, but I was wrong to feel that way. Dorsey nailed it.
And for once, I am approaching this off-season w/a lot of hope because I trust Dorsey to acquire even more talent in free agency and the draft. And as we saw last year, he isn't afraid to make trades to help the team. Getting Landry from Miami was a steal for the Browns. And then he gets picks for guys like Kessler and Hogan. And we've already talked about the robbery he pulled on Green Bay.
It's awesome to have a top-notch GM and FO.

The best move that Haslam ever made was replacing Sashi w/Dorsey. ...and replacing Hue with Williams. I just wish they would have done both in the offseason so we'd be in the playoffs now.

And he "managed" Haslam and survived that wild card. Succeeding in spite of JH is not to be overlooked in an organizational award IMO.
