For those on here who have done hiring, does it become redundant to interview this many people day after day? I really don't know. On one hand I would think that it gives immediate feedback and comparison and maybe allows one or two people to really stand out and separate themselves from the others. On the other hand, does it become tedious and less effective the more you go through them?
Just curious as to some thoughts.

I would have to say that it depends on the opportunity. In our case I believe that it's a very attractive position and one where we can afford to take several interviews to determine our choice.
I'm not so sure we don't already have the guy we want in mind. But to not do our due diligence I feel would be short sighted.
Sometimes it's an immediate need or supply and demand that cause you to take less interviews and there are times that's necessary. I don't believe that applies in our situation.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Just curious as to some thoughts. I've hired hundreds of people, I don't see that as being true at all. I will say that after not interviewing people for a while, it takes a few interviews to really get in the zone. During a startup it can become tedious (and hard to remember each candidate) because of the vast number of interviews, but that wouldn't apply to the Browns, and I would bet that the interviews are on camera for reference. I always make it a point to learn about my competitors during the process. It shines a light on similar things you may be doing that employees aren't real keen on, as well as different things that you may want to adopt.

I find it odd that JW Johnson's name is on that list. I don't. He's a fly on the wall, sitting on his hands. He has no impact on a decision, he's just there to see the process. I'm sure a lot of people will try to read something into it (not saying you are) because he's the son-in-law. If he wasn't, I don't think it would solicit anything more than a "hmmm". eh, every time I've heard this said regarding the Browns, it turns out that person has been given quite a bit more power than anyone realized.

This Kliff Kingsberry drama is maybe the strangest thing I have ever seen. Not a good college coach and teams as falling all over themselves to interview him because he coached Mahommes and Baker?
Now the Cardinals and Jets are going to interview him despite having just taken the USC job?
Very, very odd. Unprecedented.

Very, very odd. Unprecedented. Teams are thirsty for the QB guru. Kingsbury has developed a bunch of NFL QBs. He fits the mold everyone is looking for.

Just curious as to some thoughts. No. Equate it to the draft... you want to see and get every piece of information form a "player" that you can to make a decision. An interview is look at the paper you selected in the form of a resume that intrigued you. If lets you one, see the person stands up to what is on paper. It lets you see how they interact with you in a pressure situation, it lets you see how they communicate, how they address things face to face, what type of personality they are, etc. When you are hiring someone for a job, you only want to have to do it once. So you interview as many as you can, to make sure you have the absolute best candidate you can possibly get. I would say the opposite of your question would be a concern. I am not a fan of guys that only interview a few people, I tend to think they just don't like the process and want to get it over with.

This time for the Browns it's different. Every other time we have done this we didn't want to be the last person standing when the music stopped. This time around, we have the luxury of waiting it out because this is on the surface one of the, if not the most desirable vacancies in the league.

i read that as Browns don't need to interview MM like they do all the others because of familiarity. Probably just a "haven't forgotten about you" call

Once teams start hiring coaches, things change. You don't want to be the last guy standing while other teams hire the coaches you think you might want.

Just curious as to some thoughts. Hiring is tough. I've been part of teams that hired teachers and others that hired coaches. It's far from an exact science and some candidates perform far better or worse than their interviews suggested.

dont fix what aint broken. i really believe these guys running the team from OTA's on through is gonna have us competing for a first round bye, nevermind the division.

I like the pair. Hope we keep them if they cooperate with the hire if it is not them. Just hope we get what we most want, not picked over leftovers. Get on with it, hire, anoint, and quit the waters. Don't need artificial drama.

I find Eberflus and Campbell interesting... I understand the feelings about keeping GW... I also feel a young energetic coach with a young team could also form a good bond for a long stretch...
Any scenario can be a good one or a bad one... I have no problem with the choice that will be made... Just got to hope it works out.

Just throwing this out there, but maybe Dorsey did pick one of them or the pair and decided he was going to show fans that he is being thorough by scheduling a bunch of interviews. That would mean he really isn't too worried about other teams signing other prospects.

Kitchens is 45... Williams is 60
I've read enough reports that say that whoever they hire, they want Kitchens retained.
So if the only way to keep him is to promote him. You gotta do what you do.
Williams is still well liked in the lockerroom too... don't think you lose much with Williams just calling D. It tells me that they at least don't want to shake things up too much.

I would worry that it would be a weird dynamic to go from GW as HC and FK as assistant HC to flipping it.

It's interesting to me that Andrew Berry is part of the search committee and Alonzo Highsmith is not. Both are vice presidents of player personnel, but Berry is one of the holdovers that Haslam insisted on keeping from the Sashi regime. The Browns' in-house search committee, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, includes owner Jimmy Haslam, Executive Vice President JW Johnson, Dorsey, assistant GM Eliot Wolf, Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta, Vice President of Player Personnel Andrew Berry. A source said that list, which excludes Vice President of Player Personnel Alonzo Highsmith, is incomplete. https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2019/01...head-coach.htmlI didn't paste the whole article because it is irrelevant to this post. The part I copied was the last paragraph

What I find interesting is that we put the McCarthy interview on hold but requested an interview with Sirianni. Suggests to me 2 things.
1, McCarthy is not high on our list but more of a backup plan. 2. We haven't been by any of the interviews so far so we added Sirianni.
I don't know what kind of HC Sirianni will be but if we hire him and keep FK as the OC, I think that they would come up with some really creative and inventive offense together.
Browns have Mike McCarthy on hold for now in their head coach search, per report Updated 4:49 PM; Posted 4:49 PM FRE McCarthy is reportedly on hold for now with the Browns. (Stephen Brashear) 119 0 shares By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com mcabot@cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Browns have put their interest in former Packers coach Mike McCarthy on hold for now, according to ESPN.com’s Rob Demovsky. Demovsky, who covers the Packers, reported that the Browns talked to McCarthy or his representatives today and have put things on hold while they talk to other candidates. McCarthy, Demovsky said, is still very much in play for the Jets job. McCarthy worked for seven season in Green Bay with Browns GM John Dorsey, and even longer with assistant GM Eliot Wolf, who’s also on the search committee. The Browns, meanwhile, are interviewing offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens either today or tomorrow, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, but it’s most likely today. The Browns are not confirming interviews until they’ve been completed. Matt Eberflus interviewed with the Browns on Sunday Matt Eberflus interviewed with the Browns on Sunday Eberflus was the Browns linebackers coach in 2009-10 under Eric Mangini, and now he's interviewing for their head coach vacancy. Kitchens will be the Browns’ seventh candidate interviewed in the first wave. The first six were interim coach Gregg Williams, former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell, former Vikings interim offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, Saints assistant head coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell, Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores, and Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. They’ve also requested permission to talk to Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni, according to NFL Network, but the Colts are preparing for their AFC Divisional playoff game against the Chiefs on Saturday. https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2019/01...per-report.html

True, but the article makes it sound like we just requested it. It's only a weeks wait if they lose next week.
We could bring our finalist in for a 2nd interview while we wait.

I wonder who else we have to interview yet?
