You hit the nail on the head with that comment. It was no mere coincidence that Ozzie decided to fire up his club with Cleveland and Detroit coming up. He wants to play spoiler against the other AL Central teams.

As far as the game, I deleted it from my DVR when it was 4-0 Sox and then went to dinner. Wow.....I'm sure every media member in Cleveland is hoping for a Ozzie explosion so they can make their job easier tonight.

Oh yeah.....I get on Casey Blake a lot for stinking. Nice 2-out 3 RBI double in the 8th inning. It won the game for us. Good job Casey.

Anyone else ever seen a hop like the one Garko's ground ball took in the 8th? Routine grounder to end the inning ends up hitting something and going 3 feet over the shortstop's left shoulder ... run scores and the inning stays alive for Blake's bases loaded double. Is God finally an Indians' fan?

i don't know if i've seen a play like that, with that type of situation, but you see plays like that when teams are playing well, it's just part of the game, it just shows that they aren't pressing now, and are very comfortable...

boston just lost, so the tribe is only 2 games in the loss column back of them... the angels have the best record right now but are still playing

detroit is up 2-1 in oakland

the yankees and mariners both lost today too, so we've gained ground on them

Tigers lose to Oakland in extra innings, 5-4. The lead is now 5-1/2 games ... even better, Detroit now trails by 6 games in the loss column with only 27 games left.

In other news (always wanted to say that ), Shin Soo Choo went 4-4 (HR, 2 doubles, single), in his return in Buffalo last night. He could be a great alternative to the pie-man, Trot Nixon, if he's healthy.

Oh yeah, today is the day for September callups! I wonder when they'll be announced.

Lots to watch today. Browns will be making cuts and the Tribe will be making additions, now that rosters can be expanded. Only a few players will get an early call, but if I were guessing, I'd say to expect Ben Francisco, Edward Mujica, and a starter from Buffalo (Cliff Lee or Jeremy Sowers) to get the call today. Once Buffalo's season ends (currently 1.5 games out of the playoffs) Lee/Sowers, Joe Inglett, Andy Marte, Shin Soo-Choo (if fully healthy), Mike Koplove, Matt Miller, and either Adam Miller (again, if healthy) or possibly John Koronka getting a look. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if a guy like Koronka or a few others get released to give a look to guys not on the 40-man roster like Adam Miller or even Scott Elarton out of the pen.

Can players recalled today, or after today, be on the playoff roster? I'm thinking no, but not sure.

That's a shame you gotta strip Buffalo during a their playoff run, but you gotta do whatcha gotta do,...

(We're still hoping here in Columbus for the Clippers to "go Tribe" so we can get season tickets and become unofficial "scouts.")

No, but yes. Your roster on 8/31 is your playoff roster, although you gain exemptions for players on the DL. Yesterday the Indians recalled OF Brad Snyder from Buffalo (who has a broken finger) and placed him on the major league DL, gaining a second exemption. So the Indians can add two players to their playoff roster (exemptions for Snyder and David Dellucci) from the DL or from Buffalo. No more than two, though.

Thanks for the info ... I guess I'd go with Cliff Lee and Matt Miller (if he's healthy) for late inning matchup situations, although I'd sure like to see Choo on the post-season roster too.

They might add one pitcher in that spot (maybe) but not two. There is no need to have 5 starters, which puts Laffey's spot in question (he does have bullpen experience). Miller could get that spot, don't rule out Elarton. He'd been good out of the pen in Buffalo (until last night, actually).

The other spot will probably go to a guy like Francisco, Choo, Dellucci, or maybe Inglett as a PR/defensive guy.

This cannot be right:

Quote:

Trio called up after Herd win

ROCHESTER -- The Buffalo Bisons beat the Rochester Red Wings here, 10-7, Friday night but will have to get though the last three days of their season without a trio of mainstays. Outfielder Ben Francisco, second baseman Luis Rivas and closer Mike Koplove were all called up to the Cleveland Indians after the game. And you can't argue any of the choices.

Francisco finishes his season with a .318 batting average and will have to wait to see if that's good enough to become the first Bison in 17 years to win a batting title. Rivas finished at .263 while Koplove had a team-high 14 saves.

That should be it for callups until the Bisons' regular season is complete. If the Herd makes the playoffs, however, look for some more roster shuffling. Andy Marte, Shin-Soo Choo, Cliff Lee and Jeremy Sowers would certainly be my choices. It will be interesting if the Tribe gives first baseman Ryan Mulhern his first big-league look after his MVP season here.

I get Koplove (although Mujica would have been my choice) and Francisco was obvious. But Luis Rivas? He isn't on the 40-man roster, would have to move someone off the 40-man and hit .263 with 20 errors at Buffalo. Plus, the Indians already have three second basemen. This cannot be right...

Its correct. The Bisons website now has those three, plus Cliff Lee, getting the call. Someone needs to explain the Rivas call-up to me...

definitely...

actually the last 10 months have been awesome...

ohio state beats michigan in maybe the biggest game of the rivalry...

cavs owned the pistons in the eastern conference finals

the tigers are fading, the tribe is gearing up for an october run...

and michigan just blew their season to a 1-aa opponent...

I could not have summarized it better myself. I just want 2 things to happen.

a) the browns start contributing to that list
b)one of our teams wins the whole damn thing

now is that too much to ask?

detroit won in oakland today, so we gotta win to keep this lead where it's at...

everytime detroit wins, and the tribe wins, it hurts them a hell of a lot more, now that the calendar has been turned to september...

the team itself should not worry about anyone but themselves...

but man, how big does that upcoming angels series look? they lost today, which puts us 2 losses behind them as well as the red sox...

the angels are probably the best team in baseball right now, but we always play them tough

Wow, way to give the bullpen more rest! Byrd's loaded the bases in the ninth with one out but somehow got through.

Nice, nice game.

Not to condescend, but the stretch is not what I'm worried about,...I'd just as soon go into a slump NOW and come out of it just when the playoffs start,...of course, there is no way to guarantee that, so you gotta go with what's good now, and hope it lasts for a long time,,..

Actually, Ooorah, this team is still in a slump ... our better hitters; Sizemore, Hafner, Martinez, Peralta - none of them are hitting like they can. It a damn miracle they're up 5-1/2, IMO.
