I’d expect Williams is gone. We should find out soon.
I hope we throw a ton of money at Chuck Pagano to be our defensive coordinator.

Thanks Gregg.
Thought you did a great job.
Best of luck.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Might be his wishes so he can possibly catch on to a new, forming staff. He did well in the interim position and tip my cap to him!

It was always unrealistic for him to be back with the team.

Sucks for Williams to be out of a job. I thought he did very well when given an influx of talent. He had this defense on fire right out of the gate, and the total team turnaround this year on his watch, as he was the interim HC.
Still, overall as a DC I think we can aim a little higher. Williams is what we needed at the time, but sometimes his scheme and approach can be frustrating to watch.
This move was all business, and sometimes business isn't fair.
Farewell and thank you, GW.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Not thrilled about that. Thanks for the 5-3 record Gregg ... here's your walking papers. Now let's revamp the defense, again.

He probably has 17 offers already without even having to interview! Freddie Kitchens also has to be allowed to hire a staff of his choosing.

Freddie Kitchens also has to be allowed to hire a staff of his choosing. This is totally true. The Williams thing might feel dirty because he served the team well when it was in a tight spot, but it is the nature of the business and something that happens to many coaches every off-season.

First, I have a question: Any word on Blake's status now that his dad has been canned?
Secondly, I have an opinion: I hope we don't bring in a DC that wants to drastically change the scheme. For example, a guy who loves playing the Tampa 2 because that would mean we would have Peppers moving out of position again. Or, a Base 3-4, because guys like Ogunjobi would not fit in that scheme.
I don't want to deal w/more roster upheaval to fit a new scheme.
Finally, I am glad that we will be maintaining our scheme and philosophy on offense. That's good news.

Gregg did a much better job than I ever expected. Especially with the Angel defense he ran last year. Him and his son are good Browns coaches in my eyes and I wish them future success. However, it is time to move on from the constant infighting in our organization. It's best to nip this situation in the bud before it can turn bad.
This is where Dorsey will help Kitchens a lot. Kitchens hasn't had a lot of time in the NFL and hasn't built up a lot of contacts yet. Most of those Arizona defensive guys are hired elsewhere and I would not be as confident as am I today knowing a first time DC would take over. I hope Dorsey uses his contact and eyes to refer people to Kitchens.
On the offense side I'm cool with Kitchens to pick his own guys. It'll be interesting to see if Adam Henry is promoted to OC from WR coach.
Overall I'm excited.

cfrs said he believes the entire defensive staff is gone. He's seems to have a good handle on such matters.
I just hope we don't hire a DC who needs different kinds of players.

I came away very impressed with him. In it he said the defensive meetings had not changed. Gregg was still running the meetings and doing the game planning. Blake just took over the play calling in game day so that Gregg could focus more on the little things.

I have quick question—
I’m assuming Freddie will still be calling the plays. If we hire an OC, how does that dynamic work? Freddie and the OC come up with the game plan together, OC implements it through the week, and Freddie executes on game day?

There was a great article about this several years ago in ESPN the Magazine. It involves Gary Kubiak and Greg Knapp. I’ll see if I can find it. It would be very wise if Kitchens to hire and offensive coordinator he knows well and trusts. (I found the article, it’s ESPN Insider though: http://insider.espn.com/insider/story/_/...h-steelers-game)

Arians seems to be snatching up a lot of the coaches he had with the Cardinals. I wonder if this will affect Freddie's hires.

too bad Tom Moore is 900 years old, he'd be a perfect OC for Freddie. Be that sounding board and just kinda be there to help him take some of the load

Hopefully our front office’s connections help us out. I’d expect much of our offensive staff to be back. The only one that I see being gone is Zampese and that’s only if Hue wants to bring him with him wherever he goes.

why is that funny? Saunders is a good Offensive guy. He's called plays many times and been good at it. Not to mention it would work just fine with freddie. I get that hes old. But I think freddie needs someone like that than someone younger this first year so he can acclimate to the new responsibilities

Is Josh Cribbs getting promoted, let go or staying in the same position? It's honestly now the only coaching news I care about. Retain the man!

I love what Cribbs did as a player, but I would not consider retaining him unless he'd demonstrated over the course of the season that he was an outstanding coach. One does not equal the other and he has to re-earn his way. His ability as a player got him his foot in the door, but his ability as a coach determines the future. I'm excited about Kitchens as the HC and curious to see the staff he puts together. I'm not terribly worried as I view Kitchens as being bright & smart enough to not go so far off the reservation as to invalidate a huge chunk of our defensive roster.

He’s a fossil.

I'm happy with the hiring of Freddie. I'm a little concerned about who we may hire to run the defense. I feel we have quite a few pieces in place and would hate it if we switched up the scheme too much.

With guys like Ward and Garret on the roster, I think any DC candidate would be thrilled with the base talent available.

I would choose the Bears also. I'd even choose the Browns over Tampa. TB could make a big turnaround under Arians and Bowles ... They’ve been a horribly is coached team since hey hired Lovie ... then Koetter was worse ... There’s some talent there ... Will be interesting to see if Bruce can get Winston to be consistent ... dude shows flashes of greatness, he’s just so inconsistent ... They could be a team to watch ....
