I wouldn't be surprised to see Al Saunders let go as well. Well we fired his son, so yeah.

I’m going to miss Bob Wylie I think COndelisa Rice might have got Bob Wilely fired. Does anyone think "blow the whole thing up!" when looking at that list of potential DC candidates?

Too bad for Josh Cribbs.
Side note, I actually saw him this past weekend as his son's travel basketball team played my son's travel team.
His son is quite the athlete.

Other coaches have already been told they’re being let go, including quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese, special teams coordinator Amos Jones, offensive line coach Bob Wylie, linebackers coach Blake Williams, assistant defensive backs Jerod Kruse, tight ends coach Greg Seamon, assistant defensive backs coach Jerod Kruse, offensive quality control coach Brian Braswell, offensive assistant Bob Saunders, assistant offensive line coach Mark Hutson, defensive quality control coach Eric Sanders, and special teams assistant Josh Cribbs. https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2019/01...y-as-today.html Looking at the list of coaches on the Browns site (here's a link, but I think they will all be removed soon), this is a pretty big staff turnover.

I probably should posted this in the first post: I see this brought up time to time so I thought I make a post to clear up confusion regarding hiring assistant coaches and the way NFL teams can hire coaches from other teams.
Per NFL Rules
LATERAL OPPORTUNITIES
Assistant coach to Non Head Coach opportunities
Note: “promotions” to coordinator level are NOT promotions under this policy; a coach is either an Assistant Coach or a Head Coach, period.
Teams retain exclusive rights to an Assistant Coach who just completed the final season under contract until:
The Tuesday following 15 days after the final Monday Night Football game of the regular season, if the Assistant Coaches team is not in the playoffs
The 3rd Tuesday after the Assistant Coaches final playoff game (including Super Bowl), but in no event later than the expiration date in the coaches contract.
This 3 week exclusivity period CAN be waived by the coach’s team.
Coaches Not Under Written Contract:
If an Assistant Coach is working without a contract in effect (i.e., hasn’t yet signed his deal, his old deal lapsed, no new deal reached, but he’s still working for the club), permission MUST be granted even if coach continues to be paid on a non contract basis, and even if it is after March 1st.
Any Assistant Coach not under contract by the time preseason training camp begins is not permitted to participate until his written contract is signed and approved by the League office.
So assistant coaches in the NFL cannot leave their team unless granted permission or following the expiration of their contracts unless they are hiring for HEAD COACHING POSITIONS

Wylie is gone. Where do we meet to start the riot? Well so much for continuity ...

More turnover than I expected. I figured the entire defensive staff would be gone so no real surprise there. Canning all the OLine, TE, and Its coaches was not what I thought we would do however.
It's Freddie's staff so I get he wants some of his own people, but I really hope we aren't switching schemes and all that nonsense......just get a good experienced DC who runs a 43.

Freddie should allowed to hire his own staff. This is Hue Jackson's staff. Side question: Does Freddie Kitchen's go into Hue Jackson's coaching tree or Gregg Williams' coaching tree?

Kitchens got the HC gig primarily because of his work with Baker. I'm sure he laid out in his interview what he envisioned would be best changes to make in order to sculpt this team into the most "Mayfield friendly" offense.
It didn't escape my notice how the o-line play improved as Freddie took over the OC duties. I highly trust his pursuit of excellence in their continued improvement.

I *think* Jim Schwartz is in his last year with the Eagles as DC. I would guess Philly wants to keep him, but there were some reports of problems between him and Pederson last year. Winning the SB may have healed that, though.

Thinking out loud Freddie was with Arizona most of his career. Arians is putting his staff together and may hire guys Freddie would want.
Freddie may not have that many connections for building a staff.
He may have to rely on Dorsey to put a list together and assist him in hiring his staff.
Dorsey is well aware that the DC guy has to be 4-3 man.
OC? Not sure how that will shake out.

I''m interested to see how the DC job shakes out
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Freddie’s got 20 years overall and 13 in the nfl .... sure he knows a lot of people in that time span ... Plus the tuna and even Arians LOVE HE DUDE ... sure they’ll help and Freddie seems to be smart enough to UTILIZE HIS ASSETS .... and then there’s King John’s contacts ... No clue how this is going to work out ... BUT WE WON’T BE LACKING FOR OPTIONS DAWG ... How worried are u about us blowing up the D and hiring someone that won’t utilize our talent .... .... It was rhetorical question dawg ... ...

I predict Steve Spagnuolo is our next defensive coordinator.
No sources or anything. Just a guess. Winston Moss is another name I'd be on the lookout for (along with other guys from Mike McCarthy's staff).

If Cribbs was a faceless special teams assistant that I'd never heard of I wouldn't be upset (obviously). But Cribbs brought me more joy than any other player up until the 2018 season. I love that guy. With all that said, the special teams unit was so bad that he is guilty by association. He basically had to go.

Players not fitting the DC's scheme doesn't do anyone any good. Coaches not fitting their scheme to their players is the actual problem. Hire a good coach and there is no problem. That only goes so far. Yes you adapt to your players but GW ran a pretty exotic defense. There isn't a d-lineman on this roster that can 2-gap. Not one. Not even a reserve. Some of our DB's were picked for their run support and run support was ignored with our LB's. We are giving away size for speed at just about every position. You can adapt to a couple of players on your team but you can't adapt for half of the starters at the same time. You can just about throw out all of the old school coaches, because you are going to need a defensive playbook from scratch that is both aggressive and innovative. We have invested a lot recently in both cap space and draft picks, so we don't really have the luxury of squeezing some square pegs into round holes for a few years as we re-tool. In fact I think it would just be easier for me to list coaches that I think could fit as DC's because it will probably be a very short list. It may take me a bit to think about it, but I'll post the list below.

I like Josh Cribbs and I wish him well, but he was a summer intern whose internship got extended into the season. I'm sure any number of Browns' alumni would have liked the team to "find them something to keep them in the fold" over the years.

I believe Steve Wilks is a cover two type guy and we played a ton of cover two this past season. What is Vance Joseph's history?

Spags would be a good fit too and his personality is a lot like GW's as well.
Joseph is a 3-4 guy but a Wade Phillips disciple, so he might be able to, but I wouldn't call that a certainty.
