I hadn't been to one in years. I have had a bad kink in my neck for weeks, lower back was hurting due to this as well. Went in, got a "crack a lack" on my neck and back - next day I was good as new. Setting up a monthly visit and treatment plan. Looks like I have phase I arthritis in my neck and spine according to xrays. Been having bad back pain for about 2 years.

We are going to go with adjustments, acupuncture, and massage therapy as a treatment plan.

My aunts ex husband was a Chiropractor and he used to adjust us all the time when we were little. Man I didn't realize how much I missed an adjustment. I feel so much better just a day after.

Anyone else see one? Anyone have acupuncture done? I never have so I am curious as to see what that is like.

I am not quite sure what "Phase 1 arthritis" is ..... I have never heard that diagnosis. (and I have arthritis all throughout my body ... knees, right hip, spine, both hands and shoulders)

While getting "cracked" can help, arthritis exercises are the best bet for long term help. You can find a lot of articles on this online, and most are fairly simple, straightforward, and effective.

It was awesome. I have another apt Friday, but I was hoping to see what the last apt was going to cost me after insurance before I go again. I have seen a claim come across to get an idea though.

Just got back from my chiropractor. Threw my back out badly this morning.... getting out of bed. Sucks getting old.
Got myself in to see him in an emergency appointment. Couldn’t walk upright through his door. I nearly collapsed in his office trying to walk to the exam room. My back spammed so severely it almost dropped me. He was able to get me upright by the end of my visit. Couldn’t actually adjust me though as I’m hurting too much.
Now I’m home with a TENS unit in place firing up those muscles. Keeping the spasms at bay. Ice for 15 every 15. 800mg ibuprofen every 8 hours. Rest. Back to see if he can adjust me in the morning tomorrow.
This isn’t the first time this has happened to me but this by far the most painful.

I wouldn’t wish back pain in anyone. Debilitating.

I went to a chiropractor a few years ago. I'm pretty sure her area of expertise was as a sexual sadist.

She seemed to derive far too much pleasure from bending me into positions I didn't want to go until I screamed in pain. Then she would chuckle and do it again... over and over and over...

TENS unit. We have one. A few months back I was using it for back pain. It was working well.

Went to bed one night and, in the dark, I put the pads/patches on each side of my back, like I did every night. Normally, a soothing, tide like effect.

However, that particular night, some how some way the unit got changed to 'electric chair' setting.

I turned it on, and the first current hit me so hard I dropped the unit/control. As I fumbled for it, in the dark, it struck again - basically making my whole back useless.

And again!

I decided to pull one of the pads/patches off my back so it would quit jolting me.

ZAP again.

Finally got one of them off. And it stuck to my hand. ZAP again. But this time, the current wasn't going from 1 side of my back to the other side. It was going from my hand, through my arm, through my chest/torso to the other pad/patch.

Finally got it off my hand. Limped to the light switch, turned it on and saw that somehow, the thing had been turned up to MAX. I promise, it felt like it must feel to have 220 volts blasting you.

Thanks. That made me laugh. Which hurts. Lol
When the chiropractor first got it on and turned the until in it hit me pretty hard. Felt like a kidney punch. Got it set to ‘near death experience’ level now. Zapping my back like a taser to a criminal resisting arrest. “I said hold still!!” Zap zap!!!

I have been there man. I hope you get relief. Its been about 2 years, but when I throw my back, I cant even roll over IN BED, let alone get up to walk. Last time I had to take 4 days off work, and my brother had to come to pick me up and get me to the doc.

Im only 33 now, I was 31 at the time.

May I suggest something that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY with my back. And I haven't thrown it out ONCE since the day I started?

Update. Man getting out of bed this morning was intense. I slept fairly well. Surprisingly. Woke up really stiff though as I pretty much was locked into one position all night. It took a handful of minutes to get to my feet. This was leaning forward with my hands on the wall in front of me. Took another minute or two to get upright enough to stand unassisted.
Once up I’m ‘okay’. I’m now sitting upright on the couch propped with many pillows. TENS unit firing away, 800mg of ibuprofen, one 5mg Norco, a bunch of CBD drops under my tongue, hitting my bowl to add its power to the mix. Needless to say my girlfriend will be driving me to the chiropractor this morning. Not looking forward to getting into and out of the car.
My hope is he can adjust me enough to bring some relief. I need to get back in my feet and soon. Mechan8 can’t build itself.... maybe the next robot we build should be a robot that builds other robots....

Addendum... I hear you on the yoga thing. My girlfriend gets up every morning at 5 and does yoga for almost an hour. She’s been tryin to get me to join in. I did for awhile then tweaked my wrist and haven’t returned. Even though my wrist is fine now.
I know I need to work my core. It’s why my back is susceptible to the kind of crap I’m dealing with now.

Man, Portland & Will, hope you both get some relief asap.

I had nagging pain in the upper back and neck for about 20 years. Once, landing in the hospital as I could not move my neck at all, my wife had to push me out of bed as i screamed in agony. It was discovered that I have two upper vertebra fused, probably since birth.

I began massage therapy with some success, helped to a minor degree during times of pain but certainly wasn't a "cure". I will say that a massage once a month does wonders for your entire body though.

Thank God for acupuncture. One round of three visits in 2009 with great success for a few years. Another in 2012, basically pain free since then. I will say that it should be treated as a spiritual experience, go in relaxed and ready to do your best to get into a meditative state. I tried a local acupuncture clinic a few years ago for help with kidney stones. Noisy office, crappy top 40 music and no real way to unplug, made it a less than desirable experience. At the risk of sounding politically incorrect, I would suggest looking for someone that seems like they would subscribe to a classic-type Chinese acupuncture experience. You should be able to tell by the name. wink

I'm thinking of scheduling a few sessions with a new doctor to see if it helps with my kidney stones. It's one of those things that will be hard to gauge though. Over time they haven't really become more frequent but they've been harder and harder to pass. Was trying to pass one in early December when my wife and I landed in Vegas. High quality CBD and THC did in three days what prescription drugs couldn't do in over a month. Happy to say I have my MMJ card in Ohio now and won't have to deal with this beast without this miracle drug again (it also stops pain from a stone attack almost immediately). So yeah, when other efforts fail, try marijuana.. or wait... maybe try marijuana first.

Each state is different I know, but WV just passed last year MMJ cards. What was the process like to get one, do you get it from your PPC, Chiropractor etc? How long does it take? I am not able to take Percocet, or vikes etc (not that I want too since they are awful), but I am allergic to most pain meds. So I have been contemplating MMJ.

You don't really feel the needles in your body. There is a mild sensation when the needle is first inserted but I wouldn't call it uncomfortable, quite the contrary. It is almost as if you know which needles are definitely being inserted in the right place as it is almost as if something is being "freed" or released.

Holistic medicine heals not just the body but the mind and spirit as well, I don't think we as humans realize how much these forces work in concert to intensify our "ills".

Rough $&/“@ing day. Just got home from the ER. I crumbled to the ground this morning trying to get dressed for my chiropractor appointment. My girlfriend wanted to call 911. I told her no, waited until the pain subsided some and had her drive me to the ER instead. Had to load into her car’s backseat while on all fours.
Man back pain is unreal. Absolutely the worst pain I’ve ever experienced and it isn’t even close.
So some steroids, IV pain meds, and powerful anti-inflammatory drugs are now onboard. Now I’m home to rest and take more anti inflammatories and steroids until I’m better.
Wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

I had read about it being a big pain and clinics charging a lot of money to approve the patient so it was kinda on the back burner til my experience in Vegas. Not that intimidating at all.

In every state I've read about, you need to go see a doctor who is registered to prescribe MJ. My visit was $200. Google for the list, call around and ask the fees, all you need is a doctor recommendation so it's not like spending more gets you more, or is a faster track to your "green card". Once I had a doctor's recommendation, I had an email from the state within four days with instructions to pay my $50 annual fee and download my "barcode" to my cell phone. No dispensaries open here yet so the only benefit I have right now is that I can legally possess.

As far as the process goes:
A. I'm convinced anyone that walks in and says they have chronic pain would get a doctor's recommendation. I've been told by more than a few sources that the states really don't have the resources to follow up with doctors and check medical histories. It cracks me up how we fight a battle in the name of patient safety and then once we approve the "devil's lettuce lol" we give no real foresight to what kind of a monster we may be creating. When I was told that in Ohio I would be eligible to purchase up a half-pound every ninety days, my jaw dropped. I don't think I've ever consumed that much in ninety weeks lol. I guess I should have never discounted the fact that government ineptitude always rules the day.

B. The doctor (Oriental man in his mid to late sixties) and his assistant took a long time consulting me on my condition and were extremely helpful in sharing their own experience and giving me pages of useful information, websites, etc to continue my research. I learned a lot about how MJ works to relieve pain that day and was given a few charts with strain recommendations for specific kinds of pain.

C. The patients in the office were mostly in the 50-70 year old range, I was kind of shocked by that and expected to see mostly people in their 20s and 30s looking for the obvious. As I was leaving I was blown away by some lady I recognized as being at least 65 when I walked in. I'm walking up the hall of exam rooms and hear her crying out "Why?? THIRTY YEARS! My quality of life has been RUINED and the whole time all I needed was this!" I could still hear her when I was at the front desk talking of her lifelong battle with neuropathy and how the last five days of CBD oil were completely pain free. She was desperate as her daughter got it for her and she was almost out. They were giving her directions to a Michigan dispensary. What a trip.

Good luck. The world is finally opening up to the wonders of CBDs and THC (especially working in concert), it's time we start killing the false narratives and embrace it for what it is.

I’ve had acupuncture in the past for some shoulder pain I was dealing with many years ago. It was fairly effective. The needles don’t hurt per se but you are aware of each one as they go in. Once in you don’t feel them much at all, and you’re just left to lay and allow your chi to balance. Chi being your energetic body/self. The belief is that pain is partly a manifestation of your unbalanced energy. Acupuncture taps into this.
I know, I know, sounds awfully hippy but it’s an ancient practice that is still around for a reason... it can be highly effective.

Perhaps a stupid question, but: Had you done anything different the day before? Like, some lifting, or using back muscles you don't normally use?

I only ask that because I used to sit at a desk. When I started doing what I currently do - somewhat strenuous work - I got a terrible back pain that lasted for about 2 weeks. Like you, getting out of bed took a good 3-4 minutes. Walking - terrible pain. 1 foot/leg was good - the other foot/leg? I had to use pretty much only my toes.

Work went okay, it was walking that I couldn't do.

Get done with work, and I'd ice my back. And hurt. For close to 2 weeks anyway.

Turns out, it was just my back muscles/core muscles disliking the physical aspect of my job, I guess. They didn't like being stressed.

Didn’t really do anything different two days ago. My physical labor days are Thursday and Saturdays. Those are the days I spend in the studio welding and such.
This was just a freak thing. As it has been the other times it’s occurred.
Ultimately I know what I need to do...work in my core muscles. It’s just not fun. Sadly much in life that is truly important also isn’t much fun. Being in this kind of pain isn’t fun either. At all. So that’s what I need to weigh my stubborn reluctance to do core muscle exercises against.

Back pain sucks. I have dealt with it for years now.

Try laying down on your back (or side if you can't do your back) and pull your knees up to your chest (with your arms) and hold it for 15 seconds. Do that 10-15 times. It will help stretch out the discs, and ease some of the pain. It is the only thing that has kept me sane.

Yup, I've done that many times, as well as stretching my hamstrings quite often.

I also sleep in a 'tomb' of pillows. 1 for my head. 1 on each side of me, and 1 between my knees/legs.

But this sounds a bit different - what happened to port.

Sorry to hear you guys suffering. I injured my back a long time ago when I worked in a shipyard pulling electric t-40 cable during my apprenticeship. 20 years later it still flares up and I can't hardly move on those days until I let the pain scream and just move around and loosen it up.

I find that swimming in water higher than my head and just resting on my arms on some floats helps tremendously if I go a couple times a week. Just let your feet dangle and relax as gravity separates the joints in your spine and realigns you naturally. Then soak in the hot tub for 10 minutes and go home. I find that it helps sooooooooooooo much. You guys should try if you have a health club with a swimming pool and hot tub nearby.

I also drink a shot glass of cherry juice extract each day to fight inflammation naturally. It's a little rough going down since it burns a little but it helps a ton and has ZERO side effects. I just buy it at the grocery store.

Update.
My back is improving daily. I worked all week but had to struggle to get through Monday and Tuesday. I didn’t want to be sent home so I put a game face on and did it.
I’ve been to the chiropractor twice. Yestraday the adjustment he did in my lower back/hip was pretty loud but also brought on a lot of relief. I still can’t bend over all the way at the waist. That can be navigated around. I can get in and out of my car with minimal discomfort. That keeps me working. General daily activities are able to get done with only mild discomfort. My hope is by next weekend the pain will be a thing of the past.
I fly to Vegas on Saturday. We have a 5000 pound robot to deliver. No time for pain.

I wish I had a pool. I do have a hot tub. Which has been amazing therapy. Floating is really comfortable. It’d be nice to have the added depth a pool would provide.

glad your doing better, at least mildly.

My neck and back were feeling pretty good after two treatments, then this weekend I must have slept wrong again, because I have no motion in my neck again, and my lower back feels like I did 20 sets of deadlifts I am so sore.

I woke up this morning without pain for the first time since it happened on the 9th. Almost two full weeks ago. I still have some limitations to bending. I also wouldn’t want to have to lift much of anything over 25 pounds or so. Yesterday was a milestone though. I was able to walk my dog again. He missed that over the past couple weeks. It’s our afternoon ritual. One I haven’t been able to participate in. He had a lot of sniffing and peeing/marking to catch up on. It took an extra few minutes to complete our routine tour of the neighborhood. .
I have another chiropractor appointment tomorrow. My hope is it’ll continue me down the path of healing.

Good luck getting your neck and back right. Take it slow.

Had another apt last night with the chiropractor. He did an adjustment and then because my neck was hurting so bad they tried acupuncture. I have never done that before. It was pretty weird. gave me about 75% more mobility right after, but a few hours later it tightened back up, and I was where I was. Took an Epsom salt bath and slept on the recliner (only way I could sit or lay comfortably), then today the pain is still there 100%, but the mobility is back at least. I can turn and move with the pain, its just not tight like it was.

Have a regular doctor appointment today, going to ask what I can do. Im 33, I shouldn't have to live like I am 70. There has to be a better solution. Because its effecting my life and my ability to spend time with my family.

I've done the same thing to my back once or twice and in bed too.

Perhaps you should consider going to a professional masseuse for your back instead of a chiropractor?

I've gone to a chiropractor for a kink in my neck (or back), way back when. I've gotten much better results from a masseuse.

You could also try taking really hot baths, that used to help me a lot. Also if nothing else works well look for proper stretches and/or exercises for your problem area on youtube. Be exact with your search results. Sometimes that website is a real blessing.

Good luck/keep us posted!

My lower back pain eases a lot if I go for a nice long walk.

And it makes my dog happy.

Going to buy a new pillow tomorrow. I am convinced that has a lot to do with the neck pain.

Make sure you check out what kind to get. It depends on if you sleep on your back, side, or stomach, as to what firmness to get.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
