I knew it would be bittersweet for you : either upset he didn't make it, or wanting us to go after him.

Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital.

Moses.....wow, I haven't anything about him in the preseason, but as far as his potential, I can't believe he couldn't stick on a roster.

Anyone see the Bengals cut list? A couple Ohio Bobcats are in camp with them. (Muncy, mlb & Wright, db)

Looks like they're both cut:

BENGALS TRIM ROSTER
TO NFL LIMIT OF 53

The Bengals today made the following moves in reaching the NFL roster limit of 53:

● Traded an undisclosed conditional 2008 draft choice to the St. Louis Rams for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, a third-year NFL player. Fitzpatrick (6-2, 225; Harvard) was a seventh-round Rams draft choice in 2005. He is in the final year of a three-year deal.
He played in four games with three starts in ’05, and played in one game last season. His career passing statistics are 76-for-135 (56.0%) for 777 yards with four TDs and eight INTs. He played in three of the Rams’ four preseason games (DNP in Game 2), passing 28-for-44 (63.6%) for 249 yards with one TD and two INTs.
At Houston in 2005, Fitzpatrick became the fifth player in NFL history to pass for 300 yards in a debut. He earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors, coming off the bench to pass for 310 in leading a 33-27 overtime victory.

● Terminated the contracts of three veterans not subject to waivers, releasing them to free agency:
--DT Kenderick Allen
--LB Edgerton Hartwell
--QB Doug Johnson

● Waived four second-year players:
-- WR Bennie Brazell of Louisiana State
-- S John Busing of Miami (Ohio)
-- WR Reggie McNeal of Texas A&M
-- OT Alan Reuber of Texas A&M

● Waived three first-year players:
--TE Tim Day of Oregon
--G Nate Livings of Louisiana State
--FB Chris Manderino of California

● Waived eight rookies:
--HB Curtis Brown of Brigham Young
--LB Earl Everett of Florida
--WR Jesse Holley of North Carolina
--DE Xzavie Jackson of Missouri
--LB Matt Muncy of Ohio
--G Harrison Nikolao of Eastern Washington
--DT Matt Toeaina of Oregon
--OT Dane Uperesa of Hawaii
(Toeaina was a sixth-round Bengals choice in the 2007 draft, and the other seven waived rookies entered the NFL this year as college free agents.)

● Issued waivers (injured) on three players:
--K Aaron Elling (fourth year; Wyoming)
--CB Brandon Williams (first year; Michigan)
--CB T.J. Wright (college free agent; Ohio)
(If any of the three clear waivers with no injury settlement, they will revert to Cincinnati’s Reserve/Injured list for continued rehabilitation.)

● Placed fourth-year HB Chris Perry of Michigan on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list. Perry has not been cleared for practice in ’07, due to rehab from a dislocated ankle suffered last season. Perry will remain with the team for rehab and meetings, but may not practice. Beginning the week following Week 6 NFL play, he will be eligible to return to practice under a roster exemption. Upon returning to practice, he may work during a 21-day period, the end of which serves as a deadline for his non-exempt roster status to be determined.

● Moved third-year WR Chris Henry of West Virginia to the Reserve/Suspended by Commissioner list. It had previously been announced that Henry would be suspended for the first eight regular season games, for violation of NFL policies.

Jimmy Kennedy. He was a first round pick by the Rams about 4 years ago. Then was traded to the Broncos and now released.

The kid has to have some talent to be a first round pick anyways. Maybe he would be better suited for a 3-4. He has good size at 6'4" 320lbs.

Kennedy was a stud for my PSU, and I had a lot of hope for him in the NFL, but he's gotten negative reports year after year from his coaches. Whether it be being out of shape, lazy, or anything else. On a cheap contract, which is the only thing he'll get at this point, I'd love to see him. Nostalgic purposes as well as our own lack of talent on the line. But there was a reason he was cut, just for the record.

If the same coaches were there as the last 15 years, I'd wonder also,,,, But with all the new guys over there running the show.. who knows what they see in a guy,, We'll know more after this year.

The Rams wanted Kennedy to play a NT type role for the past 2-3 seasons, and basically he complained so much, and refused to play the role. He would free lance his assignments, and penetrate into the backfield instead of occupying, and he drove coaches insane. Kennedy wants to a UT type, who shoots upfield, and be more of a pass rusher. He's not really 3-4 material.

Raiders cut Moses, Crockett and Darius
September 1, 2007

Associated Press

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- The Oakland Raiders released third-round pick Quentin Moses, veteran fullback Zack Crockett and free-agent safety Donovin Darius on Saturday as they reduced their roster to 53 players.

Moses, the first pick of the third round, was competing for the starting right defensive end spot until late in the preseason. Tommy Kelly won the job when he moved from tackle after the Raiders acquired Gerard Warren from Denver and fifth-rounder Jay Richardson beat Moses out for the backup role. By keeping Warren on the roster, the Raiders must give Denver a fifth-round pick in next year's draft.

Moses, Darius and offensive lineman Kevin Boothe were the biggest surprises among the 20 players cut by coach Lane Kiffin.

Darius, a former first-round pick by Jacksonville, was signed as a free agent last month and was expected to make the team as the third safety. B.J. Ward beat Darius out for the spot.

Boothe, a sixth-round pick in 2006, started 14 games as a rookie but did not fit into the team's new zone-blocking scheme and was cut.

Crockett, who has spent the past eight seasons in Oakland, was expendable after losing the starting job to Justin Griffith. Rookie Oren O'Neal will be the backup fullback. Crockett had been used mostly as a blocker and in short-yardage situations, running for 35 touchdowns with the Raiders.

Oakland also released fifth-round safety Eric Frampton and placed fourth-rounder Michael Bush on the physically unable to perform list. With seventh-rounder Johntahan Holland already on injured reserve and No. 1 pick JaMarcus Russell holding out, that means five of Oakland's 11 draft picks will not be on the opening day roster.

Receiver Alvis Whitted, who started 15 games last year without catching a touchdown pass, was also let go.

The other players cut were: tight ends James Adkisson and O.J. Santiago; offensive linemen Jesse Boone, Chad Slaughter and Mark Wilson; linebackers Kurt Campbell and Kyle Shotwell; receivers Carlos Francis and Chris McFoy; defensive linemen Anttaj Hawthorne, Josh Shaw and Dave Tollefson; defensive back Marquice Cole; and kicker Tyler Fredrickson.

Running back Dominic Rhodes is suspended for the first four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy and does not count against the 53-man roster.

Caldwell reportedly let go as Patriots fine-tune roster

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots released receiver Reche Caldwell on Monday, according to a league source cited by the Boston Globe.

Caldwell was New England's leading receiver last season, and was one of six receivers on the Patriots' 53-man roster submitted on Saturday.

The other Patriot receivers are Randy Moss, Donte' Stallworth, Wes Welker, Jabar Gaffney and Kelley Washington.

Moss missed much of the preseason with an injury, but says he's ready to play in the Patriots' opener Sunday against the New York Jets.

Also Monday, the Patriots re-signed tight end Marcellus Rivers and claimed rookie linebacker David Herron off waivers.

The team also signed seven players to the practice squad: wide receivers Bam Childress and C.J. Jones, fullback Kyle Eckel, linebacker Corey Mays, tackle Clint Oldenburg, defensive lineman Santonio Thomas and tight end Jason Rader.

Rivers, in his sixth year, had been released Saturday by the Patriots. He played previously with the Giants and Texans. He has played in 75 NFL games over five seasons.

Cardinals get Moses, Urban off waivers
Associated Press

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals have claimed defensive end Quentin Moses and wide receiver Jehreme Urban off waivers.

To make room on the roster, the team placed defensive end Chike Okeafor on injured reserve and released tight end rookie Ben Patrick.

Moses was Oakland's third-round draft pick this year out of Georgia but was released when the Raiders made cuts to a 53-man roster on Saturday.

Urban, an undrafted free agent out of Trinity University, played 11 games in three seasons with Seattle, then was signed by Dallas last October and spent the rest of the season on the Cowboys' practice squad.

Okeafor, projected as Arizona's starting outside linebacker, is out for the season with a torn triceps tendon.

Patrick was the Cardinals' seventh-round draft pick this year out of Delaware.

The Cardinals also signed seven players to the practice squad: cornerback Michael Adams, running back Steve Baylark, quarterback Lang Campbell, linebacker David Holloway, wide receiver Matt Trannon, tackle Elliot Vallejo and linebacker Cameron Vaughn. Vaughn was released Saturday by Denver.

Trotter catches on with Bucs, signing one-year deal

Four-time Pro Bowl middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter reached agreement with the Tampa Bay Bucs on a one-year contract Monday afternoon.

Trotter was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 21 in a surprising move. He will fly to Tampa and officially sign the contract on Monday evening, and is expected to join his new teammates on the field this week as the Bucs prepare for the season opener at Seattle.

Financial details of the contract were not immediately available, but sources said it is for more than the league minimum.

After he was released, Tampa Bay quickly scheduled a meeting with Trotter and the Bucs were the frontunners all along to land the nine-year veteran. He will likely play middle linebacker, but how that affects the Tampa Bay lineup remains to be seen. It could be that Trotter was merely added as insurance, given that the Bucs have installed third-year veteran Barrett Ruud, who has just five career starts, as their starting middle linebacker.

Trotter, who was seeking a team where he could remain the starter, could challenge Rudd for the No. 1 job. Or the Bucs could play him as an inside linebacker when they deploy in the 3-4 defense that they have used some in training camp this summer.

Most observers felt Tampa Bay was already relatively deep at linebacker, having signed former Indianapolis Pro Bowl defender Cato June in the spring. But coach Jon Gruden and defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin never feel they have enough quality veterans on the roster, and they had been seeking help at the middle linebacker spot.

Trotter was abruptly informed of the Eagles' plans to release him in an Aug. 20 meeting with coach Andy Reid. The Eagles suggested that Trotter consider retirement, but his preference was to continue playing, and he feels he can still perform at a high level for a few more seasons. The Eagles have installed second-year veteran Omar Gaither as the new starter in the middle.

A former Stephen F. Austin star, Trotter is one of just four linebackers in Eagles history to earn four or more Pro Bowl invitations. He joined Hall of Fame member Chuck Bednarik, Maxie Baughan and Bill Bergey in that select group.

In 131 games with the Eagles (1998-2001, 2004-2006) and Redskins (2002-2003), Trotter has 1,184 tackles, 12½ sacks and nine interceptions. He has notched 100 or more tackles in seven seasons, and 150-plus tackles five times, and had 202 stops in 1999.

Broncos agree to terms with free agent Simeon Rice

Free-agent defensive end Simeon Rice, one of the few potential impact players remaining in free agency and a guy who enters 2007 as the second-leading active sacker in the league, reached a contract agreement with the Denver Broncos on Monday evening.

Rice, 33, arrived in Denver on Sunday, dined that evening with team officials, and then chose the Broncos' contract offer over the proposal the St. Louis Rams submitted.

According to ESPN.com's John Clayton, Rice's deal with the Broncos is for one year and $3 million. He accepted the terms once the Broncos decided to guarantee the contract. Along with the $3 million, the Broncos gave him the chance to make another $1 million through performance-based incentives.

The addition of Rice, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the outset of training camp in July, continues the near-wholesale overhaul of the Denver defensive line. Even before adding Rice, the Broncos were projected to have four new defensive line starters. Only two of the defensive linemen who dressed for Denver in the 2006 season opener remain on the active roster.

It is not yet known if Rice will play in Denver's season opener at Buffalo on Sunday, but he left little doubt that he wants to suit up.

"I'm anxious to play," Rice said. "It's what I do. I'm not [accustomed] to sitting around."

An 11-year veteran, Rice should provide the Broncos with the upfield pass-rush threat the team has lacked for the last several seasons. Denver had 35 sacks in 2006, slightly below the NFL average of 36.3, and its top sacker was then-rookie Elvis Dumervil, with 8½. The Broncos haven't had a player with double-digit sacks since end Reggie Hayward recorded 10½ in 2004.

Rice has posted eight seasons with 10 or more sacks and only four players in league history have more double-digit sack years than him. He had a string of five straight double-digit sack seasons snapped last year, when a shoulder injury limited him to eight appearances and two sacks, both career lows. Rice is 13th on the all-time sack list and needs eight to move into the top 10 in NFL history.

There have been questions since Rice's release about the status of his left shoulder, which required surgery in the offseason, and most teams with whom he visited administered a physical examination. The Rams even put Rice through a short workout of sorts, which included a weightlifting session.

Rice also visited with the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans after his release.

Before the shoulder injury, Rice never missed a game because of injury in his first 10 NFL seasons. The former University of Illinois star has played in 166 games, 160 as a starter, and has 460 tackles, 35 forced fumbles, eight recoveries, five interceptions and 51 pass deflections.

He was a first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 1996, then signed with the Bucs as an unrestricted free agent in 2001.

Rice's departure from Tampa Bay was a controversial one. Team officials allowed him to report to camp, then announced he had failed his physical exam. Rice insisted the divorce from the Bucs, where he was scheduled to have a base salary of $7.25 million in 2007 and a salary cap charge of more than $10 million, was financially motivated.

The release came, Rice said, after he rejected a proposed salary reduction of $2.5 million.

"Everybody knows it was a money thing," Rice said.

Caldwell was a decent player for the Gators but i don't think he is that good.

He is better than Wilson...but not so good I would bring him in at this point.

As a off season move I would....but not now.

I thought that a light went on for Wilson in the last preseason game... Hope it's not a fluke. But when given the opportunity, if he plays like he did against the Bears, then he's gonna be just fine.

The question is, will he?

Ain't that the truth brother

I really do stick with guys too long sometimes.. Did it with couch,, we'll find out if I'm right about Frye or not soon enough.. With Wilson,, I don't remember being a big proponent of his... But he did show me a little something thursday... the question remains,, was that the REAL Wilson, or did he just have a good night... Stay tuned,,, the answer is forth coming!

I'm with ya on Wilson. The guy has not shown me a thing. Hell, I'm pretty sure my son can catch better than TW can. And he hasn't played football in two years.

As far as Caldwell goes......I'd think seriously about bringing him in for a look if I was Phil. But I doubt that we do.

I think Wilson had 8 catches this Preseason with very limited time. He also dropped a few but I still think he has better hands than Braylon.

All I can say about Wilson is this.. he worked at getting better and it appeared, judging by his performance against the Bears that he made progress..

I can't tell if it's a fluke or not, but if it's not, then Ya Hoo,,,, it's a good deal for us.. if it turns out to be a fluke,, then he'll be gone soon enough and maybe that Sanders kid will get a call up from the PS....

I have to admit I did not see the entire Chicago game. But what I did see didn't make me yearn to see more of Travis Wilson.

And saying TW has better hands than Braylon is faint praise, indeed.
