Tosh Lupoi...

This might be the best hire the Browns have made since Dorsey joined the franchise.

In an area within the franchise in need of an upgrade, Dorsey finds a way to hire the best coaching candidate available.

Give Garrett and Ogunjobi more support from the DT position and the entire DLine becomes more productive.

Tosh Lupoi
Current position
Title Defensive line coach
Team Cleveland Browns
Biographical details
Born Walnut Creek, California
Playing career
2000–2005 California
Position(s) Defensive lineman

2018 Alabama (DC/OLB)
2019–present Cleveland Browns (DL)

Tosh Lupoi

is an American football coach for the Cleveland Browns. He previously was the current defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach for the University of Alabama. Lupoi was named the defensive coordinator in 2018 after having served as the co-defensive coordinator in 2017.

Playing career

As a player, Lupoi was a defensive lineman for Cal from 2000-05. He led the Bears' defensive line in tackles in 2003 and earned Pac-10 All-Academic recognition in 2005.

Coaching career

He joined Alabama as defensive analyst in 2014. Lupoi is highly regarded for his recruiting abilities. [1] Prior to being at University of Alabama, Lupoi was the Defensive line coach for University of Washington from 2012-2013, before this he was the Defensive line coach for University of California, Berkeley.[2]

Yeah he seems to be the only one I know of fired that is still there. But most of the site has changed with the hires. I can't remember any of those guys listed as being fired.

Do you if so please advise.

I didn't get into the Asst. when I looked initially all the above were still there.

Call me stupid but this had Kitchens written all over it...not Dorsey.

Kitchens has a lot of respect in the entire State of Alabama and probably the bordering areas.

Don't know why you are ignoring Kitchens with that hire.???

Thanks, yeah they weren't household names so didn't remember their firing.

Al Saunders is still with us though??? And the WR coach? TE coach no biggy nor is the Asst OL coach. I thought the WR coach was excellent hope he is still with us.

I love the staff we got going. Kitchens has made a name for himself everywhere he has gone. I think the only one from Dorsey is the kid from the Packers.

??? Heck Parcells made calls on behalf of Kitchen...Freaking Bill Parcells! It doesn't get more respect than that!

jmho

EO...don't start nitpicking me.

No doubt Kitchen and his link to Bama played a role...how much of a role, none of us know.

Dorsey does the hiring and firing and I have no doubt that any input he can get from others on the coaching staff is taken in consideration.

Your nitpicking...you are better than that...come on man!

No conformations either way with Henry and Walker.

I thought that they both did good jobs with their respective positions.

Weren't they brought in last year under Dorsey?

What??? sorry man I think you don't realize Kitchens was hired as the HC...Your perception of the process is not nitpicking by me...its like just WAY OFF AND DOESN'T MAKE SENSE...Come on Mac... but you won't let this go will you, you will basically embarrass yourself until no end.

No official word, but all the reports say they will be back. Henry was new in 2018, Walker came with Gregg Williams.

Kitchens is the one who hires asst coaches.

That isn't to say that Dorsey hasn't been assisting.

EO...I hope you don't troll this message board in an effort to score points from those who have no experience with your "methods".

Do really think that I didn't know that Kitchen had a link to bama?

Without a doubt, Dorsey used Kitchen's link to Bama to achieve his goal of landing one of the best DLine coaching prospects.

Dorsey does the hiring and firing and Kitchen's links to Bama likely helped him land the coach he wanted to coach the Browns DL/OLBs.

Now, if you want to nitpick as to who played a larger role in the hiring of Lupio...nitpick away.

I don't recall seeing anything about Al Saunders being released or fired. The Browns website still lists him as 'Senior Offensive Assistant'. https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/team/coaches-roster/

edited to add; They also list Blake Williams as LB coach, and I do recall his name on a list of coaches released.

No, he is not.
Just as nobody is sure he did.

We are all on the outside guessing.

Also, it doesn't matter. Neither one is going to bring in someone that is going to be another Todd Haley; they're both going to be looking at guys willing to work for Kitchens and the Browns.

Regarding Al Saunders and Blake Williams, I reached out to my season ticket rep, Briana, and asked if she could clarify their status. Here is her response.

"The website is currently up to date. If there are any additional changes, we will update accordingly but at the current moment, they are both still on staff!"

Do you really believe that Dorsey is not in control of every coaching hire the Browns are making?

I believe that they have probably worked very closely together.

I believe that Kitchens has interviewed all of them.

I believe that Kitchens narrowed the search and ultimately said which one he wanted.

I believe that Dorsey was involved at every step of the process.

I believe that Kitchens doesn't have authority to obligate the Browns to a contract so Dorsey has to sign the contract.

I believe they would be off to a very bad start if Dorsey rejected anybody that Kitchens really wanted.

Well, she is on the inside, and if she doesn't know, she knows who to ask for a definitive answer.

DC, here is what I posted when I first commented on the Lupio hire...

Quote:

Dorsey does the hiring and firing and I have no doubt that any input he can get from others on the coaching staff is taken in consideration.

Then I wrote this...

DC...will you look at that...WE SAID EXACTLY THE SAME THING!...SAME MEANING!

BUT, because I didn't use the same verbiage or language that met the approval of others...some start "nitpicking"...go figure!
