I guess not enough of us voted. I think that Baker deserved it, especially since he did something never done by a rookie QB ...... ever. Saquon Barkley named 2018 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year - NFL.com http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001...kie-of-the-yearew York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has been named the 2018 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year, Pepsi and the NFL announced today. Barkley was recognized online at nfl.com/rookies and this morning during Pepsi's Rookie Brunch Party in Atlanta, which featured a trophy presentation by ESPN's Sam Ponder, a DJ set by Grammy-winner Lil Jon (who is also featured in Pepsi's Super Bowl LIII commercial), and a performance by Pepsi's Sound Drop artist Bryce Vine. The No. 2 selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, Barkley led the NFL with 2,028 scrimmage yards and joined Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson (2,212 scrimmage yards in 1983) and Edgerrin James (2,139 in 1999) as the only rookies with at least 2,000 scrimmage yards in NFL history. A 2019 Pro Bowl selection, he recorded 91 receptions in 2018, including a single-game franchise-record 14 catches in Week 2, tied for the most by a rookie running back in league annals. Barkley became the first Giants rookie to rush for at least 1,000 yards (1,307) and his 15 scrimmage touchdowns were the most by a rookie in team history. Barkley was one of five finalists nominated for this honor. The other finalists were Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb, Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard, Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay and Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. The five finalists were selected for their outstanding performances through the 2018 NFL season. Each week, five nominees were chosen for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week and fans voted for the winner on NFL.com. Those results were used to help determine the finalists. This is Pepsi's 17th year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the 16th year that Pepsi will present the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year award. 2018 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year Finalists: Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants Nick Chubb, RB, Cleveland Browns Darius Leonard, LB, Indianapolis Colts Phillip Lindsay, RB, Denver Broncos Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns

Baker won his share.. but not winning the "official" one should be just a little added motivation.

Reading through the official announcement on Twitter from Pepsi.. a lot of people offering congrats, a few folks chiming in to say Baker deserved it... and some Giants fans saying it shouldn't even be close.. I have no issue with Barkley winning it but to say it wasn't even close is quite homerish...

It is much easier to be a first year running back than a 1st year QB. Barkley is the best running back in awhile. Baker has done more for his team.

The is kind of meaningless award that is based on the fan vote. It would have been cool for Baker to win, but oh well. More people in NYC area to vote.
The AP OROY vote is this Saturday and I somewhat expect Baker to win that one.

What a joke. Baker was a lot more important to his team than Barkley was

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Super Bowl MVP is the only individual award I care Mayfield ever wins. The rest are just a popularity contest that have nothing to do with winning a ring.
I do hope he sees it as a slight and it motivates him to get better.

I think Baker won a ton of Rookie of the Week honors due to popularity. I don't get how any of it is a big deal.

Baker totally deserved it.
His job was way tougher in a less than optimal situation, and he turned an entire franchise around and broke the records of Legends.
Barkley is good. But its way easier to be a good rookie RB than a good rookie QB.
Baker gonna be the GOAT someday. People will be chasing his records.

Baker absolutely deserved it. As someone said, being a Rookie RB is much easier than a Rookie QB. Saquon changed the Giants draft position by 4 slots. Baker changed ours by 16. From the minute he came in vs the Jets, our entire culture changed. He's the best thing that's happened in my life since my wife. Sundays in the Fall are filled with hope. I'm not a grump past 4PM anymore. And for this afront to Baker Mayfield, i'm no longer drinking Pepsi.

Having two Browns players in the mix probably hurt us. Add Chubbs and Mayfields vote together and give it to them both.
Plus consider Chubb never had more than 3 carries until week 7.
I would bet Mayfield and Chubb are one of the top 5 best rookie QB-RB combos ever in the NFL. Anyone care to check it out? I think Dak-Zeke would be #1... no?

Not really the best in awhile. fournette, Zeke the previous two years, heck - he might not even be the best back out of the draft. If chubb played the whole year he would have been right up there with him in stats.

Especially coke bottled in mexico with sugar, but even the high fructose syrup coke is better than pepsi. Pepsi goes flat in about in about 2 and half minutes. If anyone thinks pepsi is superior, the proof is in the pudding. What are the sales comparisons

Pepsi tastes flat from the onset. It's just a weird thing.
I actually like both (I'm rare), but for every 50 Cokes I buy/drink I'll have a Pepsi. I actually drink Cherry Coke Zero now which sometimes mocks Pepsi. Wild Cherry Pepsi would be my favorite Pepsi drink, but it is dwarfed by anything coke.
Remember new Coke? I also recently saw the Crystal Clear Pepsi and wanted to try it again.
I don't drink a lot of mountain dew.

Saquon Barkley, Baker Mayfield have wager riding on AP NFL Rookie of the Year Award On a weekend when billions of dollars are expected to be wagered on Super Bowl LIII, a "little bet" between NFL rookies shouldn't be surprising. But when it's No. 1 overall draft pick Baker Mayfield betting No. 2 overall pick Saquon Barkley over who will win the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, now you're talking. The award will be announced Saturday night during the "NFL Honors" show. On the line: a chain. "The loser's got to get someone else a chain," Barkley, who finished second in the NFL with 1,307 rushing yards this season for the New York Giants, told Cleveland.com. "We get to pick the chain and we get to have fun with it because obviously everyone's talking about who's going to win. "At the end of the day we'd love to see each other win, but we'd also love to see ourselves win, too. But we made a little bet with it just to show how friendly we are that it's bigger than just the award.'' Barkley, who was named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year in a vote by fans on Thursday, told ESPN's Get Up on Wednesday that he's pretty confident that he has it locked up. "If you asked my peers that played against me or coaches that had to play against me ... 'Who is rookie of the year?' I think they would say me." Barkley said he and Mayfield, who threw for 3,725 yards and 27 touchdowns as he helped turn around the Cleveland Browns, have become good friends. "Baker is amazing,'' Barkley told Cleveland.com. "He went 1 [in the NFL draft]; I went 2. He won the Heisman; I won Pepsi Rookie of the Year. There's nothing I can say bad about Baker. He's one of my good friends. We're actually doing a trip with each other coming up soon. I just love his play, what he did for Cleveland this year. "He's outstanding. He's a heck of a player. He's doing a tremendous job, and I truly think it's going to be a good competition. We've got a little bet. Hopefully I'll win that bet. But like I said, I can't say anything bad about him. I respect him as a player and as a person." http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25900...okie-year-award
