MAYBE if Barkley broke the rookie rushing record I'd consider him or MAYBE if his team improved in wins.
Even then Baker still broke rookie TD record and led his team from 0-16 season to .500 (7-7 since he didn't play first 2 games) and did it in 13.5 games, that's insane!

Thats what I said, Baker was more important to his team than barkley was. It is alot harder to be a rookie QB than a rookie RB, and if you look at Chubb/Michel, barkley isn't that much better than they are if your looking at the gap between baker and the rest of the rookie qbs, its a canyon

Here is why we are 20-1 odds and more talent on the way
Mayfield Chubb Ward Garrett Randell Peppers Schobert OL Ogynjobi Njoku Landry Collins Avery Callaway Higgins Duke Kirksey Ogbah Perriman
John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
As someone said, being a Rookie RB is much easier than a Rookie QB. Saquon changed the Giants draft position by 4 slots. Baker changed ours by 16.
Nobody, other than QB is going to be credited with that kind of metric.
I would have liked for Mayfield to win it but I'm not upset that he didn't.
I think the two should have been very close for the reasons mentioned. Barkley beat every other rookie at his position.. Baker was significantly better than any other rookie at his position..
Where I believe the difference lies is that Barkley was also at the top at his position when compared to all of the veterans.. 2nd in rushing yards, 2nd or 3rd in receiving yards, first in combined yards, etc... While Mayfield was better than all other rookies he wasn't close to the top among veterans at his position..
Folks can consider that unfair due to the nature of the position, but I think that was the difference... that and, well, NY has so many more voting fans...
I don't really care about personal awards, especially in football.
I mean whatever, it's a team game, end of the day, it doesn't really matter, but I don't think anyone with a straight face can say that if you switched the jerseys of those two, that Barkley would win the award, I mean LOL.
All good, Mayfield is going to rub it in everyone's face next year, and I can't wait.
I think you are one of our best posters, but I disagree w/you a bit. I think that it was very close when comparing Baker and Barkley. I don't think Barkley won because he is in New York.
I think he won because of all the mad respect he got from fellow players and that sport's writers listened to that. This is just one example, but McCaffrey from Carolina was asked who was the best back in the NFL and he named himself. When asked to pick someone other than himself, he immediately went w/Barkley because he is so special. Many players have said the same thing.

I don't think that should be discounted.
and that's fine and dandy.
But how come Dak Prescott beat out his teammate, Ezekiel Elliot in both of their rookie years?
Elliot 1631 yds, 15 TD, 363 rec yd, 1 td
Prescott 3667 yds, 23 TD
Probably because Prescott played very well at QB for one of the NFL's pet teams.
I don't want to argue, sperg. I am not buying the bias aspect. You can if you want. It's your right. I also have the right to express my opinion that Barkley had a legit case. I think both guys did. Hell, I think the two rooks from Indy did, as well as Derwin James.
It's not some damn conspiracy theory in my opinion.
Playing in New York certainly helped.... I think if baker played all season he might have won... frankly I don't care... someone put it perfectly that super bowl MVP is the only individual trophy I really care about
I honestly believe that the rest of the NFL was chasing Barkley in an uphill race for ROY from that point on.
Agreed.
And as much as the Homer in me wishes the award went to BM, I'm not surprised at the results, nor am I upset that SB was chosen.
BM produced some pretty 'rookie-looking' results between the time he subbed in for TT and when The Purge took place. That entire time, SB was producing for his team.
Now I'm pretty sure most would agree with me that QB Mayfield's impact on his entire team was enough to make him the sentimental favorite for this award. Hell... he wasn't just turning around a season; he was trying to turn around a 20-year culture of inferiority and victimhood.
Earlier, I read a nuanced take on the entire thing, and it has convinced me:
Barkley earned ROtY. Mayfield earned RMVP.
I believe that time will bear out that MVP is a better thing to have for this team at this time.
I might actually go after Foles, if I were running the Giants. However, Flacco is another solid option.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I agree the Giants should target one of them, but I suspect they'll get neither.
I'm taking Flacco over Foles, although it may come in the form of a trade, much like we gave up a 3rd for Taylor. Give me the one who had the track record of being a good QB. Not the flash in the pan. Flacco, I believe has just 1 losing season.
I like the Broncos too be players in a Flacco deal while they also draft a guy like Lock and sit him. Elway iis desperate to find a QB that works in Denver. I think keenam can win in the right situation. Vikings should have kept him.
I would be curious to see what the market would be for Foles if the Eagles do a tag and trade. That would essentially put Foles higher paid than Flacco. If it came down to picking one or the other at the same cost, I know Foles is younger, but I'm still taking Flacco. My hope is that Baltimore regrets moving on from Flacco and going with Jackson.
I agree w/much of this. The Eagles are looking to trade Foles and I doubt they would trade him to their division rivals.
Foles voided his option and is now an impending free agent. Although, I guess the Eagles could Franchise tag him, which would be an interesting thing to do to a backup QB.

I mentioned the trade because I had heard about this:

Report: Eagles Expected to Use Franchise Tag, Trade Nick Foles
By Jenna West February 02, 2019
The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to use their franchise tag on quarterback Nick Foles and then trade him this offseason, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Other teams have reportedly inquired about Foles's "price," which is expected to possibly be a third-round pick. The Eagles could franchise tag Foles to secure their quarterback rights, reports Schefter.
Sources told Schefter that the Eagles are expected to pick up Foles's $20 million option in the next week. Foles could then pay the Eagles $2 million to cancel the option. If he does so, the Eagles would then place their franchise tag on the quarterback and have the ability to trade him.
Last year, Foles lead the Eagles to the franchise's first Super Bowl win after starter Carson Wentz tore his left ACL in December. This season, Foles threw for 1,413 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. He took over as the Eagles' starter again this season as Wentz dealt with injuries, playing in five regular-season games and two playoff games.
I also just saw this article as I was trying to find the one about Foles being traded.

Eagles’ apparent tag-and-trade plan for Nick Foles would violate the CBA
Posted by Mike Florio on February 6, 2019, 5:25 PM EST
With the contract dance between the Eagles and quarterback Nick Foles already progressing to the point at which the final decision rests in the hands of the team, the player needs to take full advantage of his leverage. And he has plenty.
With the Eagles apparently hoping to tag and trade Foles, Foles and his representatives should be prepared to counter any attempt to block his path to the open market, either by persuading the Eagles not to do it or by challenging the effort, or both.
First, Foles should take the position that, if the Eagles apply the franchise tag, he’ll immediately accept it, putting him under contract for 2019 at roughly $25 million, fully guaranteed. That’s cash and cap dollars that will apply to Foles on the Eagles’ books, unless and until Foles is traded. Foles also should make it clear that he won’t be signing a long-term deal, with the Eagles or anyone else. That would make it much harder to trade him, since his new team would be stepping into a Kirk Cousins-style conundrum, which would entail Foles costing $25 million for 2019 and, if tagged again, $30 million for 2020.
That could be enough to scare away any team that believes it will parlay a trade for Foles into a long-term deal, especially if the team wants to pay less than $55 million over the first two years. In turn, that could persuade the Eagles not to tag Foles in the first place.
Second, Foles and his agents should challenge the franchise tag, if it’s applied. Article 4, Section 8, subsection (b) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement states as follows: “A Club extending a Required Tender must, for so long as that Tender is extended, have a good faith intention to employ the player receiving the Tender at the Tender compensation level during the upcoming season.” If the Eagles would simply be tagging Foles to trade him, Foles should invoke this provision and fight the tag, via an expedited grievance that would be resolved before the start of free agency.
What could the Eagles say in response? Whatever it is, Foles should force them to try to come up with something other than what their strategy for the tag would apparently be: A placeholder aimed at getting the Eagles a draft pick now instead of a compensatory pick later. If the Eagles attempt with the straight face to argue that this isn’t the plan, Foles should use this ESPN report as the starting point for a scorched-earth effort to review text messages and emails to determine whether and to what extent the Eagles have spoken to other teams about a tag and trade.
Yes, the Eagles have the right under the rules to tag Foles. But unless they truly intend to employ Foles at the amount of the tag for 2019, they’re abusing the rules. Is that how the Eagles should be showing gratitude to the quarterback who delivered the team’s only Super Bowl championship?
That’s a question Foles and his agents should be asking now, as the Eagles finalize their strategy. With so many people seemingly accepting the idea that the Eagles have every right to tag and trade Foles, the sooner Foles and his agents make sure everyone realizes that: (1) the strategy isn’t appropriate; and (2) Foles will fight it, the more likely the Eagles will possibly decide to do the right thing and let Foles hit the open market.
The Dolphins tagged Landry with the expressed desire to trade him .... which they did ... to us.
The Pats tagged MNatt Cassel, IIRC, only to trade him.
Precedent has been set.
