They must have just added it because I just checked 5 minutes before.

Couple new guys that I'll have to look up and see what they're about. Figured that Steptoe and possibly Sanders would stick, as well as Purcell and Pittman.

No Baba? Oh well, we know what we need next year.

from the homepage about the 3 not with us prior to this...

Louis, a rookie out of Morgan State, was signed as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2007. Louis has NFL offensive tackle size at 6-feet-8 and 300 pounds.

Harline, a rookie out of Brigham Young, spent '07 training camp with the Colts before being released on Sept. 1. He started 16 games during his final two seasons at BYU, marking 121 receptions for 1,788 yards.

Mixon spent training camp in '07 with the Bears and also was released on Sept. 1. The California alum finished second in school history with a career punt return average of 12.7 yards and sixth all-time with 22 passes defended despite missing his entire senior season with a knee injury.

So by position that is:

RB
TE
OL
CB
DL
DL
WR
WR

It's interesting that we would keep an OL or a CB given the depth we've got at those positions.

No surprises otherwise.

Baba was on PS last year so I think that that makes him ineligible this year.

i must admit i was dead wrong on Baba...hear that MOURG? ...i thought he was cut instead of Kelley b/c of PS eligibility...

Minter out and a rookie from the Bears in...that's kinda interesting...

I don't know the rules, I just thought I read one that said something like, in order to be on PS, you could not have spent a year on the PS previously. I know I saw someone posts something like this in one thread I read.

I don't see the PS so much as an emergency back-up....to me it is simply a place you stick players who you feel have a good chance of becoming decent players sometime in the future.

I don't think much consideration is given on what positions they play.

So was Barclay.

He'd still be eligible unless he was activated for a certain amount of games. I don't think he was, but I guess it's possible with the 48 injuries we had.

Thanks Peen

Some mild surprises,,, I don't know Hartline or Lewis,, but I expected Purcell and Pittman and Steptoe.. Hoped for Barclay but wasn't sure he was eligible.

I agree with that...it just seems like the PS has been a weak extension of our weak 53 man roster and now it's a place we can try and hide guys while we develop them. It's how it should be I suppose.

Maybe just another sign that we finally have a roster in place to win.

Actually, you're not really 'hiding' the guy. Any team can sign them to their active roster. You're just kind of not giving up on them, or 'sampling them' if you got 'em from someone else's roster cuts.

Tim Mixon, huh? If i remember correctly he was a stud punt returner for Cal, but he tore his ACL or something. I think he's also small, like 5-9 maybe?

Damanshot, so when Tucker comes off suspension, who goes? Would we move Jereme Perry to PS and then remove another guy from there or just cut Perry. I only mentioned Perry because he was one of DBs everybody was surprised that we kept and had not impressed too many people, except the coaches.

Thats a good question Stabber,, and I don't have the answer.. Who plays and who doesn't, who is on the active roster for games and who isn't might lend us a clue to the answer....

But hey,, who goes if Bentley comes back after week 6? Of course, by then, he could be an injury replacement.... but if not, who goes?

In the 'Information' section of this forum, it says that teams can only have 5 players on the PS (which is what I thought, and is what made me look at Info).

I'm assuming there's been a change in that policy??

It was upped to 8 last year.

On a random note, I had no clue the Browns had Harline.

My guess is Barklay will find a home somewhere, maybe soon. somebody in the NFL is going to eventually need a return man.

Hopefully not.

On a side note, I see the Stoolers traded for Allen Rossum (kick returner).

The have Holmes, guess they don't want to use him......kind of dumb to use up a roster spot just for that.

Thanks Ty! Wasn't aware of that rule before. So is he eligible to be added to roster later or not? Must be an active player? Kinda liked some of his play . . . .

Baba appears to be gone... Guess he just wasn't as well thought of within the organization as Mour felt he should have been!

Probably plan on him eventually being a top reciever and don't want to see him get hurt returning kicks. I remember when Cribbs got hurt his Rookie season and I held my breath when Droughns got the call (especially after seeing K2 break a leg on special teams vs Dallas). I know K2 wasn't returning kicks...but to me it does seem like a risk putting your impact players on special teams.

True, but that's one of the things Holmes was known for.

Droughns on kickoffs......eh.....no.

Rossum is a bit over the hill. Maybe not really age-wise, but career-wise. If they want to put him back there on Sunday, that's fine by me. Rather see him back there than Holmes.

Personally, I think that when Tucker gets back, Nat will be cut. I also think that when and if Bentley comes back Baxter is already back and we will be able to cut a db because Baxter is already on the roster, and we wouldn't need that extra db.

I doubt Nat gets cut.
He has improved tremendously (from what I've heard) since last year. He's cut his weight and fat..... he worked out at PTI or whatever its called this off season. He can play left and right and he is smart.

I didn't think Hamilton was ineligible because he played in more than 9 games last year, but I could be wrong.

No Baba is a big surprise - he played well in preseason. I'm also a bit surprised that Minter isn't on there either - possibly his character concerns came back?

I would agree that Nat gets cut. Most of the guys on the O line can play other positions as well. I think Tucker coming back makes him expendable.

Hamilton is not eligible, I believe.

Minter just sucks. I've been telling you guys this all offseason. He has horrible conditioning.

you can be on a practice squad no more than 3 years. And lastly, you can't be on the practice squad if you have been on an active roster for more than 9 games. Barclay is on his 2nd year on the ps and hasn't been active for 9 games

its not really an extension of our roster though. Practice squad guys are basically free agents as they can be signed to any teams active roster. all they really are is glorified free agents that get to practice with teams.

So let's say a guy is on the 53-man roster all year...but is never activated for gameday and has no other 53-man roster time - active or not - does that mean he retains his practice squad eligibility?

More directly stated - I keep reading the word "active" in regards to PS eligibility and wonder if that really means the 53-man roster OR actually being activated for gameday as part of the 45 activated players for a game.

Yes. A team carries a 53 man roster every week, BUT they only can have 45 active players each week, leaving a guy "on the roster," but not active. So lets say you have a guy, in his rookie year, makes the 53 man squad, BUT is never active. In his 2nd year, he's eligible for the PS.

This is what it says in the information section on this site:

Quote:

Section 4. Eligibility:

(a) The practice squad shall consist of the following players, provided that they have not served more than one previous season on a Practice Squad: (i) players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL experience; and (ii) free agent players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during their only Accrued Season(s). No player may be a practice squad player for more than two seasons.
