Just saw this, kudos to the Trump admin for this. They said Iran was one of the primary targets of this as they recently killed a gay man... Haven't they been doing that for years/decades?

China is actually the leader in punishing the gay community for homosexuality with the death penalty. Iran is #2. But we're in trade talks with China and ever since Trump was elected Iran has been his biggest foreign talking point. So....

Yes. Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Afghanistan, Somalia, there are a couple others where it can be punishable by death.

Never heard that about China and couldn't find anything looking it up. found this. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worl...m=.91b80bd147b5Here are the 10 countries where homosexuality may be punished by death By Max Bearak and Darla Cameron June 16, 2016 In the wake of America's deadliest mass shooting ever — at a gay nightclub in Orlando on Sunday — we have updated our map of LGBT rights around the world.
Hover over the countries below to see which category each falls into.
Below the map, we take a closer look at the 10 countries in which homosexuality can be punishable by death. In some, the sentencing derives from an interpretation of sharia law. There are some in which provisions for the death penalty exist but have never been carried out. In others that we haven't included, non-state actors who control swaths of land either summarily execute or sentence homosexuals to death.
Here are the 10 countries where homosexuality may be punishable by death:
Yemen: According to the 1994 penal code, married men can be sentenced to death by stoning for homosexual intercourse. Unmarried men face whipping or one year in prison. Women face up to seven years in prison.
Iran: In accordance with sharia law, homosexual intercourse between men can be punished by death, and men can be flogged for lesser acts such as kissing. Women may be flogged.
The Islamic State's horrific history of persecuting gays The Islamic State's war on homosexuals is another shocking examples of the group's brutality. (TWP)
Mauritania: Muslim men engaging in homosexual sex can be stoned to death, according to a 1984 law, though none have been executed so far. Women face prison.
Nigeria: Federal law classifies homosexual behavior as a felony punishable by imprisonment, but several states have adopted sharia law and imposed a death penalty for men. A law signed in early January makes it illegal for gay people countrywide to hold a meeting or form clubs.
Qatar: Sharia law in Qatar applies only to Muslims, who can be put to death for extramarital sex, regardless of sexual orientation.
Saudi Arabia: Under the country’s interpretation of sharia law, a married man engaging in sodomy or any non-Muslim who commits sodomy with a Muslim can be stoned to death. All sex outside of marriage is illegal.
Afghanistan: The Afghan Penal Code does not refer to homosexual acts, but Article 130 of the Constitution allows recourse to be made to sharia law, which prohibits same-sex sexual activity in general. Afghanistan’s sharia law criminalizes same-sex sexual acts with a maximum of the death penalty. No known cases of death sentences have been meted out since the end of Taliban rule in 2001.
Somalia: The penal code stipulates prison, but in some southern regions, Islamic courts have imposed sharia law and the death penalty.
Sudan: Three-time offenders under the sodomy law can be put to death; first and second convictions result in flogging and imprisonment. Southern parts of the country have adopted more lenient laws.
United Arab Emirates: Lawyers in the country and other experts disagree on whether federal law prescribes the death penalty for consensual homosexual sex or only for rape. In a recent Amnesty International report, the organization said it was not aware of any death sentences for homosexual acts. All sexual acts outside of marriage are banned.

Yes. Yemen, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Afghanistan, Somalia, there are a couple others where it can be punishable by death. That is strange. I could understand predatory pedophilic homosexuality. (being a severe crime) But two consenting adult males or females having sex in private? Not a crime. (Not appealing to me. But neither is wearing white after Labor Day. Or steamed artichokes) But they risk the death penalty in Yemen and the others above. me above:
I could understand predatory pedophilic homosexuality. (being a severe crime) Any predatory pedophilia. (not death penalty but a very high form of assault)

Good on Trump!

Maybe at best he helps Brazil and South America. Can't call him a racist if he's helping the latino gays. That's double ID Politics points!

It's stuff like this where I really think Dems have erred in going after Trump like they have since his election.
I tried to tell everyone who was excited about him getting elected to brace themselves because while he was promising to do a lot for Republicans, I had zero doubt that he would disappoint them and put some things through that the Democrats wanted. The guy isn't ideological enough to go one way only.
Unfortunately for them, the Dems decided to pee on any chance they had. Dems have given him zero reason to work with them or push their agenda.

Personally I think it’s moot. trump coming up with a plan to globally end discrimination of any kind is political postiuring. He has no say in other country’s politics. He might as well have declared he’s starting a campaign to end discrimination against Jewish people, or any other race, creed, belief, etc. Realistically how’s he going to make countries that throw gays off rooftops change? By calling them out? They’ve been called out. They still do it. I’d say the same if it were any President. Global initiatives sound good. Getting irrational nations that have such belief systems on board... a much harder row to hoe. We can’t keep Saudi Arabia from killing reporters. What are the chances we can convince them to treat homosexuals better? Sudan? We can’t get them to stop having warlords steel donated bags of rice. How are they going to respond when we tell them to not kill or imprison homosexuals? Maybe trump should be more focused on that healthcare plan he promised us. The best mostest inexpensive and amazing healthcare plan “believe me”.
Or he can try to stop ice skating in Sweden. Or animal ‘abuse’ in Cambodia (they still eat dogs there.) Seems like a good use of his efforts.
I’d prefer the healthcare thing he promised but hey look, he likes gays now!

I’d prefer the healthcare thing he promised but hey look, he likes gays now! It depends on how much support and backing he can get at home doesn't it? This is the type of issue I was just talking about a couple posts up. This should be an issue the Democrats would want to take up and push forward on. Trump by himself isn't going to get any movement on it. But a politically unified American Gov't would have some weight behind it.

When you realize that the Muslim world doesn't give a damn and isn't going to change anything because "Trump says so", it's an act in futility and nothing more than a talking point that has no basis to change anything, why jump on the bridge to nowhere?
But he's certainly provided you with a talking point that holds no substance.
But maybe on the other hand Trump actually believes that when he proclaims something the entire world will fall to its knees and change. That wouldn't surprise me either.

Wait, where's the typica lib response?
"Racist!!! Homophobe!!! He doesn't really mean it. " Finally, here it is. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/...istic-colonial/President Trump’s campaign to decriminalize homosexuality across the world is motivated by racism, a colonial sense of paternalism, and an urge to pick on ‘brown-skinned’ countries like Iran. Or so insists a comment piece by a gay activist at the LGBTQ+ journal Out.com. “Trump’s Plan to Decriminalize Homosexuality Is an Old Racist Tactic,” says the headline. Read on. It's hard to find this many twists in a M Night Shamalan movie.

Or it's pretty obvious how a bunch of homophobic countries in eastern Europe as well as their US counter part whose second in command believes in electrocuting gay people to convert, to go lecture Iran and Africa is racist.
I would've mentioned it earlier, but I expect this campaign to go over as well as Melania's antibullying campaign.

If he's going to use his power and make his committee focus on their own countries, then great. If he's going to use this as his new war drum against Iran then I'm out.
