I am glad Collins is gone...As many have stated he surely was not worth the money he was signed for...He was poor at diagnosing, angles, false steps in coverage, effort, heck he was the one player I always noticed giving up on plays before the whistle even blew...Just seemed uninterested in trying...
I will say this, early in the year I saw Gernard Avery run down on the opposite side of his contain...chase the RB 40 yards down the field, to make a saving tackle in the red zone...Jamie Collins would have never done that...You do NOT want Collins effort to effect the young ones...like Jarvis said "that's contagious" for someone making that salary and how Gregg William's stated Collins was a "leader" was fluff...he was only a leader because Schobert and Kirksey were injured...
I was really hard on Mingo...but least Mingo always gave effort and played through the whistle...something Collins failed to do so.
Just think for 10 mill from cutting Collins...you can easily sign LB Denzyl Perryman and probably even DL Allen Bailey too...two high effort players...which is what our young nucleus needs to be around.

I heard Bob Kraft likes secret mensaje parlors.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

No surprise with this move.
It'll likely be Kirko on the chopping block next year.

Did he have to sit down after that play? He looked a little dizzy.

And do what with Kirksey? I'm not a coach. Moseley would be an impact player here. Find them both roles. Players get dinged up all the time. Guys getting paid Kirksey's salary don't get benched. If Kirksey's on the team he's going to be playing a bunch of snaps. I think we all believe that Schobert will also be playing a ton of snaps. Basically nobody, besides us in 2017, plays three linebackers the majority of the snaps. That leaves no room for Mosely (who is clearly better than Kirksey).

Nah they'll be overjoyed at the chance to bash a guy Sashi brought in. To some, we're not the Browns. We're either Sashi guys or Dorsey guys, but certainly not Browns' guys. They do not know what team means anymore. Truth hurts .... he was an UNDERACHIEVING BUM .... U guys are now reduced to giving him credit for contract structure .... .... i guess thats all u got .... and then u tell us VG is overpaid ... ..... another great move by your hero .... The cults in rare form today ... soon you’ll be telling us how good his QB’s room were ... *LOL* ... Cya Jamie ... bye bye ....

Salary cap just went up to Approx. $89 mil Man that's a whole lotta money to be sure. But we do have a lot of big second contracts coming up in the next 4 years.. so I hope they get what the need, but remain reasonable. What we have now is a situation that I think Players will WANT to come here.. Baker, Chubb, Garrett and Ward. And let's not forget a fan base that is rabid. It's suddenly a good place to play.

I was hoping someone would trade a bag of chips or something for him. We couldn't even get future consideration for a bag of chips for him.

Kirksey isn't earning his money right now. I like the guy because he works hard and by all accounts is a great human being.
He was a special teams guy at first, but worked his way into the starting lineup and was very active. He seems to have regressed [partly due to injuries] the last two years. He isn't worth the contract and that means his time is probably coming to an end in Cleveland.
I think a guy like Mosely would be a significant upgrade because he plays both the run and pass well while be far more physical than Kirksey.
I want to make it clear that I am not bad-mouthing Kirksey because I do like the guy. I just don't see the value for the contract the previous FO gave him.

I agree with all of the above, but we can't cut Kirksey without taking a cap hit. We could trade him and save some money, but not very much. https://overthecap.com/player/christian-kirksey/3010/I don't see us investing big in linebacker this off-season.

Barr would be a better fit than Mosely IMO but if we were moving both guys then Barr and Mosely would be interesting.

I expect outrage to ensue...
Why? It was a decent move, the contract worked out. He brought some experience to the defense and played decently when we desperately needed it. But the youth movement is in full swing, we are going to need the money to resign our own... he just doesn't fit any more... While this probably lands on the positive side as a decent move to bring him in and all.... This is worthy of neither high praise nor outrage.. it's just a thing that happens..

Sometimes you make moves knowing they aren't a long term fix. You make the move because you need to fix something then and there. I am not upset we signed the guy, nor upset we just released him. Kirksey was always my favorite linebacker of our trio...But you are right, I don't recall much of 2017 Kirksey, except his coverage was bad...But the few games he played last year were bad...He was horribly slow for such an active backer...He was misdirected often and just seemed like a different player...I'm hoping he bounces back this year.

Think we all knew that as soon as Gregg Williams was gone, Collins spot on the team would be gone too.
Williams was the only coach who supported Collins lackluster efforts. We didn't see any solid play from him until we turned the page and started winning games.

I'm rooting for him because he is such a great dude. I think he can shoot gaps due to his quickness and make some plays. He did have one good game in-between injuries last year. I think he struggles to get off blocks because he isn't very strong for the position.

Not unexpected at all. I have been saying that I expected him gone for a couple of months now.
I really like the kid Avery and I'm sure we will add something via FA soon.
Does his 10 mil put us over the top now as the biggest Cap Space?
Man this can be good.
"not unexpected" lol just confused myself.

I am ready to see us go shopping. His play was uneven, and invisible way too often for this salary. Thanks for the good you did here, and good luck in your future.
We need a pounder to replace him.

I don't think many doubted that Collins was going to have to take a pay cut or be released. Not sure your taking what whip said the right way ... or i could be wrong ... The day we traded for him i said he was very sellfish and not a team guy ... then when he got here he gave a 1/2 ass effort the rest of that season ... posters on here as usual made excuses for because he was a brown ... they said he was just getting used to the players around him and adjusting to the new system ... i called BS and pointed to the one play where his laziness clearly showed up ... Dude was running to the right for about a 15 - 20 yard TD ... Collins was jogging after him .. no clue if he could have made the play ... but i do know he shouldn’t have been jogging and there may have been a shot for him to make the play ... some may remember it ... DUDE did NOTHING to warrant the contract the cults hero gave him ... NOTHING ... then for the first 1/2 or 2/3rds of last year we got the same ... not sure what happenend over the last 1/2 or 1/3rd of last season but he actually started to play for the first time in his 2 years with us ... The Pats literally gave him to us ... so i had no probs with the trade .. for the price a guy with his atheletic ability was well worth the roll of the dice ... the new contract ... Pfffftttt ... he did NOTHING TO MERIT IT ... NOTHING ... Just another reason why the cult has nothing but podcasts to look forward too from their hero ...

I think we're going to try to land CJ Mosely ... and that would be a good tradeoff obviously
Think about adding Mosely at LB, Beckham at WR, and draft the best interior DL available
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Collins isn't a big hit. I think he was a better player than many gave him credit for, he certainly had his ups with the downs, but also not a player living up to his lofty contract.
It is a nice cap saving move by Dorsey with low risk - worst case scenario, we get to see what Genard Avery can do with an expanded role that he was naturally earning.
I will say this - if Collins is out, Kirko better consider himself on notice because he's not lived up to his big contract either.

It'll be interesting to see where Collins ends up. It will tell how the rest of the league views him.
IMO, he'll get nowhere near the money he was scheduled to

This move was expected. All of what is being said about him on this board is probably justified and true. I wish him well. Bottom line? We should be able to replace him with a more productive player and one that will probably be cheaper. It also increases our cap space. Should be a win win for us.

We'll now have to see if Zeitler and Kirksey and Ogbah and Duke are in the same boat
