Hard not to like Fells but he was a bottom half of the roster talent. Not a big loss but I don't see much benefit is releasing him. It's not like we need that little bit of cap space.

Does anyone think this has anything to do with the rather pointed comments by Dorsey about Njoku needing to improve his blocking? Those comments seemed to come out of nowhere during a Combine interview, just seemed odd at the time. I don't think Dorsey says things randomly.
Somebody mentioned Dorsey always having a plan. Just speculating, could Tyler Eifert be in play for the Brownies?
Shout out to Evedawg she pointed out that Dorsey is likely to have his next moved planned already.
Before we cut Fells Our Cap Number was $79,042,665 now it is $81,342,665 (Courtesy Over the Cap)

Maybe they’re trying to benefit him by releasing him prior to FA and the draft. Give him his best chance to land a new home before the potential suitors have made other arrangements.
PastorMarc's post made me think that Dorsey is consolidating cap space to do something bigger than just replacing Fells. It'll be interesting if any other roster hangers-on get released before Wednesday.
Have we settled with Ricardo Louis or Howard Wilson yet?

Can we just form letter this respone ^ I read it so often.
Browns can cut anybody, often the ones they cut in March seem to make little sense.
Browns have won almost nothing since the start of free agency way back many years ago.
The new pattern looks an awful lot like the old pattern.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
Dep...you might be on to something..Dorsey was the Chiefs GM who drafted Harris in 2013.
Yep, he drafted a 6' 7" former basketball player that blocks really awesome but was hardly ever used on passing downs because they had Travis Kelce at TE and a few million other weapons on passing downs.
Boy, I don't like this move, and frankly, I don't get it.
I could see if we needed a roster spot to sign a player, but we can't even start talking/negotiating with UFA until 4pm on the 13th.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Was Fells being paid a lot more than Devalve? I ask because I would rather have Fells than Devalve.
I'd agree with that. I'd prefer Fells over Devalve too. Although maybe Devalve just didn't catch on well last year because of his training camp injury.
But, honestly, this whole move isn't a big deal to me. Every year there's roster turnover. Fells was not a huge weapon. Njoku's blocking improved last year and he's a better receiver as well.
I don't think he was anything vital, so in a sense, it's an opportunity for someone else to come in here and do their thing.
Wish him the best though. He was a better receiver than i expected too.
I do think it helps you develop a good reputation by releasing guys before free agency starts (if they aren't going to be in our plans). It allows Fells to find himself a new team when teams are looking to form their rosters.
Ya ... the Pats hardly ever ran the ball on their way to their SB victory ...
Gronk was way more affective as a blocker than pass catcher this entire year and n the playoffs and SB ... he’s a shell of his former self as a pass catcher but was still just as important solely because of his run blocking ...
I’m not a fan of this move but were talking about Darren Fells here ... just like Higgins he won’t be hard to replace at all ...
And your coco puffs if u don’t think blocking TE’s are important ... there’s at least one on every team for a reason ....
Not so sure if we bring Eifert in...maybe if we still had Hue...I always thought Eifert was a mediocre blocker, and obviously injuries have taken a toll on his body.

Kind of my point that it shouldn't be hard to replace him. Is Orson Charles still on the roster? I thought he was a good blocker and I know he can catch.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

The browns do this, the Browns do that.. Have you realized yet that this is only the second year here for Dorsey. And so far, just about everyone on the planet give him an A for what he's done so far.
This doesn't appear to be the SAME OLE BROWNS
