Regardless of the happy face Kevin Colbert is trying to put on the Steelers.
The happy face melts. The AB and Bell saga are bad signs. It is easy to trash AB and paint him as a selfish egomaniac.
But there something rotten in Denmark.
Ben is nearing the end. He will find life post AB to be very challenging. Shuster will as well.
AB was Ben's safety valve. He bailed him out often. Ben would go to the pocket behind his all star OL and wait for AB to get open.
Shuster ran free mostly in single coverage.
All that is now past tense.
Colbert made his comments about how Ben is the man. That is not how you set up a locker room. "Now everybody listen up your big brother is going to say something."
Tomlin already has been under fire from the fan base. Now there are these public comments about Ben coming from a player and coming from their GM.
Tomlin is going to feel the heat.
If they come out slow and look poor doing it?
He will be sitting on a cast iron stove with a fire in the box.

i really wish i could sit here and trash the steelers, but i can't.
atleast they've consistently got to the playoffs under Tomlin. meanwhile, we're celebrating the fact that we didn't finish dead last in the division since the birth of jesus.
everybody is predicting doom and gloom, but i've seen this story play out too many times.
i expect the steelers to be in the hunt for the playoffs until evidence shows otherwise.

I hope they collapse into the basement for 20 years like we did. I've gotten so tired of hearing thier obnoxious fans for the last two decades if anyone needs stuffed in the freezer for a while they do.

I'm with you on this one Swish. They look to be in disarray but until we beat them at Heinz Field I think it's premature to pronounce them dead.
I want them destroyed but the only way to be sure of it is on game day.

Yep... they are still the team to beat... hoping we can sweep them this year....
I'm more interested in their long term plans at qb... I really liked dons in college... thought he had potential but I'm not sure if he's the answer to succeed Ben...

Facts are facts.
They did not make the playoffs. Years past are history.
They lost Ryan Shazier, Bell, and now AB. That is talent gone with little returned.
Ben has talked retirement in the past and years don't go backward.
It is very unsteeler like to air dirty laundry. But that has happened.
Just like we are no longer the team from our past.
Things change.

They also lost Marcus Gilbert too, which is a big loss.
Garrett and Vernon are going to feast on that line next year.
you had a good run Hank.

Ben took over the team last year when they fired Haley to promote their token OC ... they were pass happy last year just like Ben’s always wanted .... Not sure why posters say there the team to beat .... as u pointed out they didn’t win the division last year ... actually I do know why ... it’s all some of them know and for the last 20 years its how its been .. SOME/MOST can’t seperate todays reality from yesterdays reality ... For years most of them overrated the talent on our team .... now there snake bitten and just won’t accept the fact we have as much or more talent RIGHT NOW than the Stilers and by the time the season rolls around we will be WAY MORE TALENTED with our new additions ... TICK TOCK ... CHS thinks he’s funny when all he’s really doing is showing his ignorance ... So far this off season were all ready way up on them ... we’ve added Hunt and a MUCH NEEDED PASS RUSHER ... We’ve lost a darn good gaurd ... they’ve lost a top 3 WR in the league and as U pointed out Ben’s security blanket .... THATS HUGE .... They also traded Gilbert ... he only played in 5 games last year but that hurts the depth on that OL ... These guys can poo poo it all they want ... it don’t change the FACT that right now we have as much or more talent than any team in our division and were in a position to BLOW THEM ALL AWAY starting Wednesday ... We have SO MANY THINGS going for us ... - young TALENT thats going to improve from last year .. - NO MORE DYSFUNCTION from the coaching staff ... - a full off season and TC together with Bake getting the reps he didn’t last year ... - Bake, Chubb, Calloway, Avery, Ward going from rookies to 2nd year guys ... Harrison also ... - everyone from the FO down FINALLY ROWING in the same direction ... - Hunt and Oliver added to the fold ... The stilers off season .... - bye bye AB ... THATS HUGE ... Over the last 2 years now they’ve lost 2 of the killer B’s and Shazier ... there going backwords or treading water at best ... our needle is HEADING STRAIGHT UP ... like in SKYROCKETING ... The worm ain’t even finished turning yet, but trust me ... its turned enough all ready ...

It's funny, but reports out of Pittsburgh are saying that outside of a few, his teammates love him.., They think a lot of AB.. so, that's a FWIW kinda thing

You present this information as if people are saying the Browns suck and the Steelers are great. That's not the case.
I am going to put this out front and I don't want you to ignore it.
We have a shot of overtaking the Steelers this year.
So, I am not dissing the Browns or acting like the Steelers are great. However, I think there are other factors that you are ignoring.
--The Steelers have a better qb. This guy has a ton of experience and has won a Super Bowl. He is going to be a HOF qb. Our guy showed promise, but he isn't reading coverages like Ben can and he is still very young.
--The Steelers have the best OL in football. Our line is very good, but probably took a hit due to the trading of Zeitler.
--Their coaching staff has been together a long time. We have absolutely no idea how Kitchens will fare as a HC because he has never been one. There are question marks regarding our two coordinators. We could have a good staff. We could have a horrible staff. We don't know yet.
--We have to beat them before we can pooh-pooh them. We tied them in game one, but got drilled in the rematch.
Again, we have a chance to overtake the Steelers, but it's not the sure thing that your presentation suggests.

I believe the Steelers will still be dominant until Ben retires . Doesn't matter about coaching, WRs, RBs, etc

This team will be reduced on paper. That said they always overachieve it seems. Not a Tomlin fan, but I respect their results. Get your popcorn. Our rise should mirror their slide. This could be fun to watch.

I remember when the end was near when they lost Hines Ward, only to be replaced by super bowl MVP Santonio Holmes. I remember the end was near when they lost Holmes, only to be replaced by Mike Wllace. I remember when the end was soon when they lost Wallace. Only to be replaced by Antonio Brown.
And now the end is near when they lost Brown, and have a 22 year old star in JuJu Smith Schuster.
The Steelers are a top 3 organization for a reason.

I think the steelers will be better than last year, but the Browns will still be the team to beat. The steelers will be more in sync without the bell and brown distractions.
I feel like the steelers will need a receiver yet... and I wouldn't be surprised if they make an offer to Higgins. A shame if we allow that to happen.
Most of the players in the division will still think of us as the doormat, but I assure you the coaches know who the team to beat is within the division whether they express so or otherwise. Reputations don't win or lose games.
We will start to get the breaks and calls that always seem to go against us. The NFL knows Mayfield is the future of this league. He needs to stay upright.

One big thing that we have to solve lies with their defensive pressure. If we can eliminate their ability to get to Baker we'll be SO much better off

--The Steelers have the best OL in football. Our line is very good, but probably took a hit due to the trading of Zeitler.
They just traded their RT, and their OL coach (considered the best in the biz) left for Denver, for the a LATERAL position move. To me, he can say it was to be closer to his daughter, but the dysfunction absolutely had a place. --Their coaching staff has been together a long time. Yes, and no. They have replaced ALOT of position coaches over the last two years. Porter was fired, their RB coach was fired, their OL coach left, and that was just this year. Last year their DB coach I believe left, etc. I think this coaching staff is actually on the hot seat more than some believe. --We have to beat them before we can pooh-pooh them. We tied them in game one, but got drilled in the rematch.
No disagreements there.

You present this information as if people are saying the Browns suck and the Steelers are great. That's not the case. Did u read Swish’s, guards. Jaybird’s and CHS’s posts? ... the stilers are the team to beat ... i gave MY OPINION on why we can beat them ... and IMO barring injuries WE WILL BEAT THEM ... What did i say that was wrong? ... what do u disagree with that i said? ... hell, if u want .... THERE’S MORE ... just ask and I’ll provide it ... ... I have no issues with what u said at all ... cause its all true .. just like what i said is all true ... I am going to put this out front and I don't want you to ignore it.
We have a shot of overtaking the Steelers this year. I agree, I just go one step further and say we WILL OVERTAKE THEM ... for the reasons i stated ... So, I am not dissing the Browns or acting like the Steelers are great. However, I think there are other factors that you are ignoring. Thats cause i ignored them .... *L* .... --The Steelers have a better qb. This guy has a ton of experience and has won a Super Bowl. He is going to be a HOF qb. Our guy showed promise, but he isn't reading coverages like Ben can and he is still very young. I agree that LAST YEAR they had the better QB ... this year ... if I had to pick one... WOW ... well Bake has to prove it so I’d go with Ben and his experience ... but here’s what your IGNORING .. - Bakes going to improve a heck of a lot more than Ben for multiple reasons ... 1. Ben’s not going to improve, he’s a savvy vet that has reached his cieling ... at his age, he may start declining ... 2. Bake was a rookie last year and will improve just based off what he learned ... 3. Bake had zero time with his recievers not named Higgins last year and this year they will have at least one passing camp, OTA’s before TC even starts ... 4. the dysfunctional duo is gone .... 5. Were not installing an entirely new O ... NO WAY .... he will have a grasp of way more of the O than he did last year from start to finish ... Freddie knows Bake and what he can do .. as a coach u know that’s HUGE when designing and implementing ... last year they got to know each other ... --The Steelers have the best OL in football. Our line is very good, but probably took a hit due to the trading of Zeitler. I agree ... they did lose Gilbert and that can’t be ignored ... we also don’t know what we have in Harrison as a 2nd year player ... we can’t count on him but he has some physical tools u can’t teach ... if he works hard ... look out ... losing Zietler is going to hurt, question is how much ... i’ll ake the trade off ... i’m not really sure what happenend there ... i still can’t wrap my ahead arond WHY we traded him ... i get the trade off, i just don’t know why thats the path KJ took to get his pass rusher ... i trust KJ and his plan ... he’s earned my faith but i also know he’s gonna make mistakes ... I’ll give u that one as u are correct ... --Their coaching staff has been together a long time. We have absolutely no idea how Kitchens will fare as a HC because he has never been one. There are question marks regarding our two coordinators. We could have a good staff. We could have a horrible staff. We don't know yet. Ben’s only been the OC for a year now ... *L* ... I have faith cause FREDDIE IS READY ... ... he’s been a grinder preparing for this job for 15 years now ... i have no proof yet because he hasn’t done it ... i do have FAITH in him .... i have since the day the Tuna hired him without ever working with or knowing of himin the past ... its not easy to impress the Tuna and have him hire U ... and everyone he has worked with LOVES HIM and says he’s destined to succeed ... U know me and my history Vers .. i am usually BEYOND SKEPTICAL with the HC’s we’ve hired in the past ... all of them ... the one i was highest on was Chud because of the fact Norv Turner took a job working for a guy he was once the HC for ... that told me a lot about Chud ... I could be wrong here ... but i love this dudes PEDIGREE and fell extremely fortunate we have him ... lets hope i’m right on this one ... the day i read that Tuna hired him the way he did i was telling everyone not to discount on him ... THAT TOLD ME ALOT about dude .... LETS GOOOOOOOOoooooooo ... i’mgetting myself fired up .. not that that’s hard to do ... *L* ... I have faith in him ... and quite frankly I’d take our staff over the stilers right now ... who on their staff impresses u ... thats a question, i’m not being snarky ....no clue who their DC even is since Labue left all i know is there D isn’t very good anymore .... Freddie went out and hired TEAM GUYS that either lied in their interviews or have bought in to making it a group effort and bouncing ideas off of each other .... I think were gonna be fine .. And Vers .. as you’ve stated before ... its more about talent and execution than it is about coaching ... .... --We have to beat them before we can pooh-pooh them. We tied them in game one, but got drilled in the rematch. That was last year ... ancient history ... we’ll improve much more than them ... i’m Not stating my reasons again .... all ready we’ve gained Hunt and a legite pass rusher opposite MG and lost a very gaurd ... they’ve lost a top 3 reciever in the game .. u can’t IGNORE THAT and the affects those moves alone will have on each team ... Again, we have a chance to overtake the Steelers, but it's not the sure thing that your presentation suggests. If it comes off as I’m saying its a sure thing ... so be it ... IMO we will overtake them barring injuries .... i’m Not backing off of that .... nothing’s for sure bro ... NOTHING ... but i feel really really good about our chances .... THE WORM HAS TURNED BRO AND THIS DAWGS READY TO EAT ...

Ya, it’s all about the WR’s .... ... If u think JuJu’s gonna replace AB your dead nuts wrong ... IF u are right ... who replaces JuJu ... if he’s the star u say he is .. who replaces him .... .... PS. Outside of Hines Ward none of the others u mentioned could even come close to carrying AB’s jock ... All u negative Nancy’s can live in the past ... i choose to live in the present ...

Unless Washington can step up, it's going to be tougher for their offense. Heck, Bill B was already shifting coverages towards Juju WITH Brown on the field. Now teams can fully commit to that

As a receiver, Hines couldn't even hold AB jock imo. As a football player yes, but Ab is more talented than Hines. And the thing about those WR he listed, other than Hines because he never played outside of Pitts, the others all stunk once they left Ben. I feel AB maybe have been propping up Ben the last couple years.

Tomlin Lost me when he first took the Steeler job. He gave in. Tomlin was a devout Dungy Cover 2 Defense guy. Now he had his first HC job and he had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE O. He had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE D. And unlike Cowher didn't spend a lot of time on ST.
I lost respect for him. I know I might of done the same thing. To get my first HC job would I sell my soul to the devil. Just an expression. Point is he was basically a Rah Rah guy. The way to practice stayed the same way. The Systems stayed the same way. The personnel decisions not sure but got a feeling he had the least say.
I might be a little biased against him for the team he is coaching.
But now that there is dissent on the team and conflict with players. I don't see him having the respect of the players to end it.

My point is really about Tomlin.
I don't believe he has acted the way a head coach should. He has let all that has happened - happen.
The break with AB was unnecessary and should not have happened. Players are not suppose to run the team.
Tomlin should have stepped into the Ben AB riff and ended it.
The Steelers are a less of a team because they have allowed the Bell situation to occur and basically created the AB situation by allowing it to happen.
Now Tomlin is going into a divided locker room. There are guys I am sure that wonder why Bell didn't get paid. There are guys who feel like Ben can do as he pleases because rules are not for everyone. And there are guys who sided with AB. Keep in mind AB was never found to not work hard. He is believed to be a guy who wants to win.
The team still has talent. Conner ran well. Shuster is pretty good. The OL is good. But this is not the team they were or could be.
Like I said if they struggle early Tomlin will find his seat very uncomfortable.

Players shouldn't run teams, but Franchise QBs often run teams. Aaron Rodgers just got his HC replaced. The best thing teams can hope for with their franchise QB is to develop a synergy with their HC. That was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to keep Freddie, because he had built such a good repertoire with Baker. I know some on here have found their relationship to be sophomoric and immature, but they also don't know what fun looks like.
I think one of the things working for the Steelers now is that they don't seem to have anymore lockerroom issues. No AB, no Le'Veon, no Harrison. They lost some gigantic egos, and talent over these past two years. Let's just wait till the season ends before we write them off so quickly. If the game was played on paper, there'd be no reason to watch on Sunday.

Enjoy. FWIW I get what you're saying. For quite some time, we have been the victim to the bully that has been the Pittsburgh Steelers. And we will continue to be until we are not. And not on paper, but on the field. I strongly believe this is the year we get a victory (if not two) against them. We avoided the sweep last year, and that is huge. We made tremendous strides last year, and it did not have the feel of luck or being a fluke. I do think we can challenge for the AFCN title this year. I do get the sense that we and the Steelers are moving in opposite directions. I feel optimistic. But ... I do want to see it on the field. I think I will. And I cannot wait.

Diam chooses to live in a handle. I thought he wanted to be wrapped in colorful paper with a bow on top.

Last year bro .... ANCIENT HISTORY ... I see CHS is trolling me now ... not even reading his replies in the higgins and Rosen threads ... he’s triggered ... *L* ... i’m sure he’s calling me a drunk again, the class act that he is ... Come join me in today Pit ... its a much nicer place than it was even in the 5 - 3 record we posted after we got rid of the dysfunctional duo ....

I will say I'm very hopeful. The second half of last season is much more reflective of where I think we stand today. But as much as I like Freddie and the decision to name him our HC, the proof is in the pudding. The man has never held the position and we have pretty much an entire new staff.
So while I'm optimistic, I'm not ready to jump the shark.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
