Anyone know of a LB we have shown interest in?...or someone we can nab?...We still have a large void (and no first round pick, and one of our 3's are gone too)

Maybe Shaq Barrett?

We are set at linebacker as long as we have Kirksey.

Our base defense is as follows:

Garrett/Ogunjobi/Richardson/Vernon
Schobert/Kirksey
Ward/Randall/[Hopefully Earl Thomas]/Mitchell/[Slot corner]

In subpackages Kirksey comes off the field for an extra DB.

I think his franchise tag for last year was 15.25 mil. That was just one year though.

I couldn't be more happy that he is out of the AFC north. Hopefully, he beats the Steelers this year.

Bell wanted more guaranteed money than what Pitt offered (10 mill) he went out and got the Jets to pay him 30 or 35 mill guaranteed...he made a wise choice and got to take a year off and vacation all year...wish I could do the same lol

Except he missed a whole year of money.

At the beginning I thought Bell was making a smart decision to sit out and force the Steelers hand. Then Connor exploded and it seemed like Bell didn't have a plan.

You know, I think it was a smart move for him.
He had a lot of touches prior to last season. An RB would be wise to take a year off and let his body heal. He might have gained more years of $$$ in doing so. that is of course if he is any good. jmho

The issue wasn't about money with Bell, it was about guarantees and playing under a 1 year tag...wanted to avoid what happened with thomas...gets a career ending injury playing on tag and thats it. I fully support players not wanting to play under tag

We are far from set at LB....
It is our biggest weakness.
Kirksey is an average NFL LB
Schobert is limited athletically
We need an upgrade if we want to stop the run with any success
I realize we can't have everything but our LB's are weak.

Still on my list is a Safety and I think we got a 3 year deal going with Earl Thomas ready to sign.

We could add even another???

I also said I wanted a 2nd tier CB and wanted us to sign Desir...hopefully he is still available.

NFL Network reporting, in no uncertain terms, that Earl Thomas is not working on a 3 year deal with the Cleveland Browns.

Good. Personally, I don't want to overpay for him. This would fall in line with a typical popcorn headline FA move that rarely works out.

I'd like to keep some wiggle room to be honest. Signing Earl Thomas would be awesome, but a lot of salary as well

I don't think we're set at LB. Our reported interest in Mosley is evidence of that. Also, if you believe the skepticism about Richardson's run defense then we still need gap filling LBs to shore up the run D. If we play 2 LBs which is what Willis is known for we're going to need more stoutness in the LB corp than either Schobert or Kirksey can provide.

I'd rather focus on a Randall extension.

I think Y-Town made a good point, maybe the D isn't about a FS & SS and more of a left right. I would take a backend with Thomas and Randall any day, dare teams to throw on us and let the front seven take care of the run. Even if a runner got behind them, both Thomas and Randall can tackle so I wouldn't be too concerned that we didn't have a "SS".

Having those two play deep - I could live with it. But I agree that neither is a SS and I think I'd be happier with a traditional SS and FS set up.... we don't need to pioneer a new D scheme. Let's keep it simple.

Well, I was asleep when Dorsey got Richardson, and at church when he got OBJ ...... so what's going to happen when I go to double up on physical therapy and a doctor's appointment today? tongue
