Browns sign veteran offensive lineman Eric Kush
https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/browns-sign-veteran-offensive-lineman-eric-kush

The Browns signed offensive lineman Eric Kush, the team announced Thursday.
Kush, 29, last played in 15 games for the Chicago Bears in 2018. The interior lineman played 344 snaps last season, including starts in the first three games at left guard. A neck injury sidelined him in Week 4 and eventually relegated him to filling in along the interior when needed and playing special teams for a Bears team that won the NFC North.
Kush has a connection to Browns general manager John Dorsey, who selected him in the fifth round (170th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft when he was with the Kansas City Chiefs. Kush has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, where he was featured during the 2016 edition of HBO's training camp documentary Hard Knocks.
For his career, Kush has played in a total of 33 games (12 starts).

That's our swing man, I'd say.
Corbett starts, Kush is the backup across the interior.

From most reports, the guy is below average.

Dorsey drafted him in KC so there is a familiarity. Dorsey also cut him in KC in 2015.

Eric Kush dubbed Bears' player who must be benched
By: Bryan Perez | October 4, 2018

Left guard Eric Kush was a surprise starter coming out of training camp, especially with second-round pick James Daniels’ solid play in the preseason after joining the club as a plug-and-play prospect from Iowa.

Kush hasn’t played well enough to hold off the rookie much longer.

According to Bleacher Report’s list of lineup changes that every team must make, it’s Kush who should step aside for Daniels in the starting lineup.

After Kush played every snap through three weeks, the Bears gave Daniels a shot by giving him 27 snaps at guard in Week 4 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 48-10 win. Kush’s snaps fell to 61 percent.

Monitoring the snap count certainly helps identify changes a coaching staff is starting to make and the dip in Kush’s reps certainly suggest the Bears are grooming Daniels to take over.

The timing of Daniels’ increased reps is important, too. Chicago was able to get his feet wet in extended action against a very good Buccaneers defensive line before a long week of rest and preparation. It would seem to be the perfect time to anoint Daniels as the starter.

While it’s a very small sample size, Daniels’ grade from Pro Football Focus (77.2) ranks as the second-highest among all offensive linemen. Granted, he’s only played 27 snaps, but he proved in those reps that he can be one of the more effective players for Chicago up front.

On the flipside, Kush has the third-lowest PFF grade of any offensive player (53.4). He’s ahead of only Kevin White and Dion Sims.

He's a journeyman, he's been on 6 teams in 6 years (on 4 teams in 2015 alone). Grades out pretty decent as a pass blocker but terrible as a run blocker according to PFF. Personally I think if this is the guy we are gonna rely on to be our backup we better hope our starters don't get injured.

I read an article that pointed out that Harris, Taylor, and Kush are all good ST players. I get the feeling Dorsey was addressing ST more than BU OL with Kush.

So, you are asying he can play C, G, T? We must be relying on Corbett quite a bit. Probably starting or not?

I was born in the 40's, so I am getting older than most people. LOL. I was thinking it might be a musician/singer.

What substance?

I am sure if you think about Swish and Calloway, it will come to you. Another hint would be in my generation a popular brand would have been "Red haired skunk" but I was born in the 60's.

i remember him from the Rams ... decent depth, hard worker, not much talent IIRC

LOL....now that gives us hope.

That said, I do understand everybody you sign isn't going to be a starter.

Many times I have said you also build a roster from the bottom up It's not just about the top 20 players. The bottom 20 are a big part of the team.

Don't worry about it. It's actually spelled Cush.

Not here to start...and OL unless there is an injury its the starting 5! Good to have depth until we draft.

I like the depth we added in Lamm as well. Corbett was our Depth inside, now that he is penciled in as a starter we needed that depth. We got Kalis also from Michigan OL I think he was a Center that can play OG.

We also need guys to man the ST especially for FG or Ex Points!

I'm glad you mention STs. A couple of these signing are guys who are very good ST players. The LB and the TE are both known for ST. I think that is what has been hurting the STs. the bottom of our roster was not that good and changing a lot. Core ST guys who embrace that role are vital, and I think Dorsey recognizes that and is addressing it.

That's where I think many of us agree. We've been a very talent starved team. When players have been signed we've all been looking for where they could start, who we will be cutting to make room for them and where they will be in regards to helping on the O and D.

We're not used to seeing position 40 to 53 being upgraded. We're not used to seeing the bottom of the roster upgraded. Hell, we've barely been able to fill a team that can compete on game day much less be concerned about upgrading special team players.

It's a new day, a new time and a new dawn. Now we have to look at the big picture and look at who is on the bottom of the roster that's being replaced. Rebuilding is turning into fine tuning.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

That's where I think Dorsey sees the draft. He got the starters set, and some back ups. The young guys drafted to this team will be developing back ups, but also they will be key ST players.

Depth is what keeps good teams good. It allows for development and experience to be obtained. The Steelers for years always drafted OL. These guys would be on the roster for a few years and all of a sudden they are starting. It was like a plug and play system.

We may finally be at a point where if they keep the starting line up in tact for a couple years, many of the down roster guys will have the proper time to develop and also be evaluated. That's how I looked at Corbett last year. It didn't bother me that a second round pick wasn't starting. IMO, he benefitted by being able to be coached up to the NFL level. Guys like Harrison are getting time to strengthen their weaknesses in practice, not under fire in a game.

The fact that most of the starters are in their mid twenties, sets the stage for this to happen. This could be the start of something big for this franchise. Something that has eluded it for years.

The problem with Kush is that for as great a job he does pass blocking he's the total opposite as a run blocker. PFF had him rated as the 15th best pass blocker at OG last year but they also had him ranked #61 as a run blocker. Kush's run blocking grade was just slightly better then Cam Erving's last year.

I doubt he is going to be a starter. With a shiny new QB who we want to keep shiny, I'll take the pass blocking grade over the run blocking grade..
