Does this count the five games he was already out, or not?

Apparently there is some question of when he went on the commissioners exempt list?

I was hoping for less.

He can still appeal and get it down as well I believe. I would think that maybe 4-6 is what he will serve.

Considering the nature of the incident, that could be some really bad PR for the NFL if it reduced the suspension. Id' recommend Hunt just go with it and be ready for the 2nd half.

Doubt it, if you watch the video it was not nearly as bad as Mixon or others that got less games.

The NFL is trying to make a point with Hunt, this isn't based on the actual incident.

Much less than I thought. Happy to get him back sooner and I hope he's grown up and is dealing with his anger and maturity issues.

I would bet he will be advised to not appeal and take his licks. I could be wrong, but I agree with what you said.

Probably 2 games more than I was expecting. Looking at the Ray Rice and Mixon incidents that were worse and got less - but knowing the NFL needs to take a stance, I was thinking 6 games. Take your licks - move on and do the right thing.

Watching NFLN,, it's 8 games..

Doesn't seem like they are going to take into account the games after he was cut last year.

8 games,,, that looks like it and he says he's not going to appeal it.

He'll be here for camp, and after the suspension

Good move.
Positive PR starts with humbly accepting what has been handed out for your transgressions. Contesting and appealing it would just ignite a crap storm that NOBODY needs and it would accomplish nothing.

I'm betting that the suspension does not take into account the five games he missed last year, it is eight games in the 2019-2020 season. That's fine. We get him for the second half, he gets to accrue a season and complete his contract, the NFL gets to take a stand and then let this die.... Win-Win-Win.

There were also 2 other incidents that the NFL was investigating. He's lucky he got away with only 8 games.

I am sure that his proactive approach to rehabilitating himself was taken into account.

NFL suspends Kareem Hunt for eight games

The NFL is suspending Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt for eight games. Hunt will not appeal the suspension.

At a Thursday press conference, General Manager John Dorsey said that the running back has been within team headquarters a lot recently as part of his growth.

"I do know this with regards to Kareem, he has been in the building and I know that he has really done a nice job of being committed and of doing that work so that he can be the best version of himself. I know he has been diligently working on that.”

The 23 year old was released Nov. 30 after a video surfaced of him shoving and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel in February of 2017. The hotel also has apartments. The incidents occurred on Feb. 10. The running back was neither arrested or charged. The NFL reportedly had not seen the video until it was released by TMZ Sports. Upon seeing the video, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell placed him on the Commissioner's Exempt List, which meant that he does not count towards a team's roster limit.

Shortly after his release, in a sit down interview with ESPN, he expressed his regret. The Browns announced his signing Feb. 11.

Dorsey, who drafted him while in Kansas City, explained how the franchise came to the decision of signing Hunt.

“My relationship and interaction with Kareem since 2016 in college was an important part of this decision making process but we then did extensive due diligence with many individuals, including clinical professionals, to have a better understanding of the person he is today and whether it was prudent to sign him. There were two important factors: one is that Kareem took full responsibility for his egregious actions and showed true remorse and secondly, just as importantly, he is undergoing and is committed to necessary professional treatment and a plan that has been clearly laid out," Dorsey said.

Hunt, again, expressed his sympathies for the incident with which he was involved.

“First off, I would like to once again apologize for my actions last year. What I did was wrong and inexcusable. That is not the man I was raised to be, and I’ve learned a great deal from that experience and certainly should have been more truthful about it after the fact. I’m extremely grateful that John Dorsey, Dee and Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns organization are granting me the opportunity to earn their trust and represent their organization in the best way possible on and off the field. I am committed to following the necessary steps to learn and to be a better and healthier person from this situation. I also understand the expectations that the Browns have clearly laid out and that I have to earn my way back to the NFL. I’m a work in progress as a person, but I’m committed to taking advantage of the support systems that I have in place to become the best and healthier version of myself.”

The NFL was reportedly investigating two other incidents as well.

Hunt was a third round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he recorded 272 carries for 1,372 yards and eight touchdowns as well as 53 receptions for 455 yards and three touchdowns. The Toledo product was a strong NFL Rookie of the Year finalist alongside New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara. In his second season, he was suspended with five games remaining in the season. During the first 11 games, he had recorded 181 carries for 824 yards and seven touchdowns as well as 26 receptions for 378 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Willoughby native was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2017. He led the league in rushing yards a year ago.

I wonder what the other two incidents are or if they involve Hunt?

Posted article said he was. Suspended. For five games.

Earlier articles speculated he was placed on the Exempt list. Possibly after being cut, possibly before.

There is a definite lack of clarity here.

He missed five games, possibly or probably at the Commissioner's mandate, that is functionally a suspension.

If he was cut, and NOT suspended, why did no other team pick him up? A talent like that?

Because no other team wanted the ramifications of the media backlash, and teams did not know what type of punishment he was going to be receiving - and didn't want to take the chance. We did.

He was cut by KC right after the video was posted, before the NFL did or said anything. AFTER he was cut, he was put on the Exemption list until the NFL investigated. So since he was CUT before he was on the Exemption list, it was not a suspension, he was simply cut.

NFL puts Hunt on Commissioner Exempt List

Kareem Hunt was placed on the Reserve/Commissioner Exempt List by the NFL and released by the Kansas City Chiefs after newly released video showed the running back pushing and kicking a woman during an altercation that occurred at a Cleveland hotel in February. The video first surfaced Friday on the website TMZ.

The surveillance video shows Hunt getting into a confrontation with a woman while being restrained by others. After exchanging words with her, he shoves her before she strikes him in the face. Hunt then shoves another man into the woman, pushing her to the floor. Hunt eventually makes his way over to her and kicks her in the leg while she is on the floor.

Cleveland Police confirmed to NFL.com that no arrests were made in the incident and Hunt has not been charged.

"I want to apologize for my actions," Hunt said in a statement obtained by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. "I deeply regret what I did. I hope to move on from this."

The NFL released the following statement:

"The NFL has placed Kareem Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs on the Commissioner Exempt list, and as a result, he may not practice, play or attend games. The NFL's investigation, which began immediately following the incident in February, will include a review of the new information that was made public today."

The Chiefs released Hunt a short time after he was placed on the Commissioner Exempt List.

Hunt was sent home early from the Chiefs' practice facility shortly after the video was published, a source told Rapoport.

It remains to be seen if Hunt will join a team while on the Commissioner Exempt List. Pursuant to the NFL's personal-conduct policy, a player placed on Commissioner Exempt List may, with his club's permission, be present at the club's facility on a reasonable basis for meetings, individual workouts, therapy and rehabilitation and other permitted non-football activities.

Neither the NFL nor the Chiefs had seen the video before it was released Friday, a source informed of the situation told Rapoport. The NFL made several attempts to obtain it. The hotel said it was corporate policy to only turn over surveillance video to law enforcement. Cleveland Police Dept. public information officer Jennifer Ciaccia confirmed to NFL.com the police did not release the video.

While no charges were filed, the NFL continued its investigation, which included contacting the alleged victims, sources told Rapoport. However, they did not respond to multiple messages from the league, per Rapoport.

According to a police report obtained by NFL.com, witnesses gave conflicting reports to officers about what led to the altercation. Hunt said he found two women with a man he knew when he returned to his room at The Metropolitan in Cleveland early on the morning of Feb. 10. He said he told the women to leave after learning they were 19 years old. One of the women said she was told to leave after she refused to be with one of the men in the room with Hunt.

Witnesses told police that one of the women involved yelled in the hallway and banged on the door of the room after being escorted out. One of the men with Hunt told police that the woman called Hunt names and used racial slurs before Hunt confronted her.

Speaking to reporters in August, Kareem Hunt referred to the incident: "I've learned from it and I'm focused on football."

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt also spoke in August about the incidents involving Hunt.

"I'm sure he learned some lessons this offseason and hopefully won't be in those kind of situations in the future," Clark Hunt said.

Hunt has rushed for 824 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games for the Chiefs this season. He led the league in rushing as a rookie last year with 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns."

In terms of the player's ability to earn a living, what is the difference between the Exempt list and a Suspension?

We could have him for eight games, or thirteen. Five more games of a talent like that is worth a serious look.

There was previously speculation that this time already missed, the five games last year, may, or may not, count towards his eventual suspension.

I have not seen any specific info sufficient to either confirm or deny this concept. Just more speculation.
