HILARIOUS and SO TRUE... Funny part about it all is that the SAME people continue to drink the F.O. Koolaid while the writing is on the wall...
FACTOID #1. Frye and DA were made available to other teams by our FO this offseason.
FACT #2. Savage entered us into the Trent Green Derby because he needed something better here.
FACT #3. We traded up to grab Quinn to address the need at QB.
FACT #4. RAC announced an open comp. in training camp to determine teh starter.
FACT #5. RAC flipped a coin to determine the starter for pre-season game one because NEITHER of his projected starters showed any promise.
FACT #6. Charlie and DA were STILL being offered up to any takers as recent as 10 days ago.
The media KNOWS these things and MOST fans tend to not put them into persepctive but as Merth pointed out, the "media" is more correct about "rumors" around here than most seem to give them credit for...
I ABSOLUTELY think RAC is on the hotseat whether some people choose to ignore the facts or not... Flame on...
I tend to agree with this.
However, the media are people with the same emotions as us, and they are also fans. Therefore, sometimes there is an agenda there. I think Grossi is the biggest Bozo there is. Every question he asks, every article he rights is dripping with his fanaticism. Often times, that fanaticism gets translated into his articles and are a reflection of his wants and wishes.
But for the most part, where there is smoke, there is fire. Some of it, however, is just logical conclusion drawing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to draw your own conclusion that RAC is on the hotseat WITHOUT getting any confirmation from any source. Look at the record, look at the results.
To switch gears here a second...the Savage presser was very eye opening. I agree with YTOWN...the guy needs to grow a set. He came out very defensive of himself and Romeo, and he looked stressed. Look, he doesn't need to list all the players he's brought in and claim they have an NFL roster now. It's obvious he's been really trying to convince himself and everyone else he's done a great job.
If he has done a great job - and I think he has - then we'll see it on the field.
It was really a sad spectacle, IMO.

Well, one tangent I will never have is giving the FO,coaching staff, players or any other members of the organisation a "free pass" no matter what they do. Thats not a tangent in case you didn't know. Thats blindly defending them.
To go to bat for them and stick my neck out for them even when they do screw up. No GM/HC is perfect ..when they mess up I say so. When they're trying to do something as far as I CAN SEE..and they are discredited I will say something.
Ballpeen : Forget it man....some talk about interpretation then don't even know op-ed from reporting. I'll forget that sentence cuz it goes along with your CONSPIRACY theories U tend to spit out..

Agreed that it was a sad spectacle... I cannot help but think there is some pressure behind closed doors on the man... Phil has done his best to put the right pieces in place... Not all of it was good when you look at the Dilfer, Dorsey, Droughns and select other deals made involving Draft picks... I DO think we are better WITHOUT them players and I hardly see Phil on the hot seat for a small amount of "bad acquisitions." RAC on the other hand HAS to be feeling the heat and rightfully so... The record in the AFCN is horrific as well as his overall record but teh fire could be more of his inhability in the past to make the team prepared for gameday... In RAC's defense, I will say that he did a BANGUP job in the Denver and Chicago games and not just because we won, but the team LOOKED prepared and seemed to all be on the same page... IF he can continue that, he should feel no heat despite the Win/Loss record... I just want to see progression with the past mistakes by the coaching and I KNOW he is MORE than capable... He has recently proved that...

No, but it does take someone that knows the game and can actually understand what it takes to play QB.

Otto, Grossi claimed that there had been an actual offer to Tressel to coach the Browns....not speculation, but a cliam by him that an actual offer had been made and Tressel had accepted. It was pure BS.
Then there was the report that Lerner was demanding a QB taken with the #3 pick. That was false as well.
There is a difference between a report and an op-ed piece as Peen says. What Peen ignores is that the above situations weren't op-ed pieced, but actual reports from the Plain Dealer of these situations as facts when they were nowhere near the truth.

For the most part, I think Pat is a goof but generally find his article worth my time. One thing that he says here that is true is just win some games.
Winning will cure a lot of this. Even if the media is fabricating or even stretching the truth, winning will stop some of that. Winning will give them things to report instead of making things up.
Maybe if there was only one reporter from each paper allowed to publish stories on the Browns, then we would have better stories. Seems like reporters spew garbage once they have nothing to write about because their colleague just wrote the article that they were going for. Now they have to make something up or stretch the truth to get another story out there.
Signing Steinbach - $49.5 million Signing Lewis - $5 million Drafting Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn - millions more Restoring the Browns to champions - priceless.

I do not recall seeing a report that said Tressell had accepted any offer. I remember it as speculation that there were ongoing talks. A big difference, IMO. Of course, I don't see the Plain Dealer every day so I could have missed this.
I would like to know how you are sure that Lerner did not request that a QB be taken in the 1st round. I know you weren't in the draft room or in Phil's office so I don't see how this could be any more than speculation on your part. You could be correct. But then since I'm speculating at the same time I could be correct as well.
Look, anyone who subscribes to the "media is in a conspiracy to create controversy to harm the Browns" theory is teetering on the edge of reality with an imminent slide into the world of BS, IMO.

Grossi reported not only in the Plain Dealer and on the radio that Tressel was offered and accepted the job.
Lerner was reported to have demanded a QB taken with the #3 pick, not the first round. Since that didn't happen, we know it's not true.
I don't think the media does it to "harm" the Browns, but rather to stir up controversy to sell papers.

So you can't supply a link where RAC and Savage stated the reasons you CLAIM were a part of any attempted moves or the moves at the end of your "facts" (which are just opinions). As for my high school team, they're doing well. We're 2-0 winning by scores of 36-14 and 57-24. How's your fantasy team coming along?

I agree 110%. Obviously it works too. Some of the stories that we read on here are sketchy at best yet we all still read them and get wound up about them.
As much as people seemed to hate Roger Brown, you just knew that someone was going to read his work and post it on here. Then everyone would pile on to say how much of a waste he was. So why did we all read it then?
Only read the good reporters work and the others will stop because noone will read them and buy their papers. Until that happens, we will continue to have this issue.

And Savage said in a press confrence that was posted on this very board that he looked into aquiring Green, but the price was just too high for him to make the deal. Seriously,it was on this board just a couple of weeks ago. But I'm not going to try to look it up for you. But I'm sure many posters here read and it and can confirm it.

Crennel tried to keep the competitors sharp by keeping quiet about who would start in the preseason and how much each would play. He flipped a coin to determine the starter for the first preseason game.

Charlie AND Derrick both talked about it in their post game interview too. Anderson called tails and it came up heads.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

First, I wanted a link where Savage said he was getting Green because he didn't think Frye could get it done as was stated, not that he tried to acquire him.
Second, that wasn't the right one, I wanted a link to where the Browns said they were trying to trade Frye 10 days ago. Sorry for the confusion.
I wasn't disputing the actual facts, but the reasons he listed for what happened that he was stating as facts. It was simply his opinion, not facts;.

Grossi reported not only in the Plain Dealer and on the radio that Tressel was offered and accepted the job.
Ya know I can't find an article that says that. I see plenty that say Grossi was speculating as much. But none that said Tony said he was signed. Perhaps you can provide an article.
Lerner was reported to have demanded a QB taken with the #3 pick, not the first round. Since that didn't happen, we know it's not true.
We know no such thing. Neither you nor I were in Berea when Phil and Randy talked. But my guess is that Grossi's source was. And since Phil said himself that he moved heaven and earth to go after Brady after pick # 9, I gotta believe that he wasn't doing it just because he had problems with Charlie and Derek. I believe that keeping the boss happy may have played a part in it, too.
I don't think the media does it to "harm" the Browns, but rather to stir up controversy to sell papers
C'mon, no one has bought a paper to read an article on the Sports page since 1964. Ever hear of the Internet? The "They're doing it to sell papers" argument ceased to be valid when the modem was invented.
Tell me you don't like Grossi. Or Cabot. Or whoever. But don't disguise it as the media manipulating the sports news. If anything it's the Browns trying to manipulate the news by feeding the reporters bad info disguised as "leaks"

Yeah, but no one buys the paper just to read an article on the Sports page. Not even the reporters believe that any more.
BTW, I read the paper, here, every day. But I still get most of my up to date, current news via the Internet or radio.
Many people don't own a computer. But that number is dwindling every day. Hell, my 82 year old father owns a laptop.

I think this whole discussinon is hilarious. Many on here, cry about the "Lack of love" from the media, especially if the Browns are ignored or rated low in the power ratings. They also complain if there is a lack of information coming out of the Browns.... remember all the "What's happening with Bentley" posts...? Now the "Media" is to blame for all the team's problems.... Crennel flips a coin, and it becomes Grossi's fault... Savage says that Quinn is not in the running to start the first game.... and it's McManamon's fault.... Face it people.... The FO and coaching staff haven't been exactly forthcoming with anyone.... but somehow the media is to blame... I won't argue that many are taking op-ed columns for fact.... A word to the wise... If a story is listed as a "column" or by a "columnist", it is op-ed and not a news story. An Op-ed piece might contain a lot of fact, but if it draws a conclusion, it's OPINION. A news story covers the 5 Ws and an H... Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How... and sometimes the Why is conjecture... rather than, Why, that's what happened... a reporter might ask the coach why something happened. .....NOTHING ELSE.... Anything that draws a conclusion, or offers a solution, is an opinion column.... Sometimes a columinist has some insight, McManamon/Doershuck, other times the columnist is an idiot... Grossi.... A columnist gets paid to write about the team, not to do a game day story. A game day story is based on fact. ANYTHING ELSE is opinion. If I'm writing an Op-Ed piece about George W. Bush, I might say... "based on what I've seen in Iraq, George Bush is a babling idiot..." If I'm writing a news story I say "George W. Bush's college records show an individual with a 138 IQ, who graduated from Yale University..." One statement is opnion, one is fact. The same thing happens in Sports reporting...

Don't tell that to the advertisers.... If they find out no one is buying the paper, there go the tire ads, the strip bar ads and the escort service ads... If those advertisers disappear, not even Ohio.com can keep afloat with their meager advertising revenue....

I've always felt that the QB competition was just that, a competition. Just because he felt they both were on even ground doesn't mean that he didn't have confidence in them. He gave them each a fair shot at the starting job, and Frye won. That's all.
I simply don't believe in this "Lack of confidence" nonsense. I've always felt that the Cleveland Media creates controversy all the time. They ask players questions pitting them against other players and their coaches all the time. Many times I would simply rather they not because they misconstrue people's words and make assumptions. Anyone who denies that must not read/listen to many Mary Kay Cabot's interviews........ (hate her the most)

I didn't say no one is reading the paper. I said no one buys a newspaper just to read a single sports article.
But it is true that less and less people are buying newspapers. Like I said before, I read my hometown newspaper every day. I just get most of my up to the minute news from the Internet and on the radio.

I usually enjoy reading the 1st and 10s, but this one was so freakin' annoying. I agreed with everything Savage said about the media. Patty Mac seems like a complete crybaby here.
Couldn't agree more.
The guy in one of our local papers that I read at work, the Tribune Chronicle, has been getting on my nerves lately as well. I don't bother reading our Youngstown Vindicator because the sports section is complete garbage. But after Savage's presser this weekend, he writes 2 articles each day about how Crennel is on the hot seat. He mentions that Savage says he's not on the hot seat at all. Yet the title of the article is Crennel is on the hot seat.
Anyone see the problem here?
Unfortunately I am stuck reading it, because a lot of the time, there isn't even an article in the lousy Vindicator about the Browns. Nowadays, the media really does create a lot of controversey. They give their own take on things and run with it, whether it's true or not. It's like they get stuck on something, and no matter what is said, they still write their side of it.

I agree. The media often starts with a rumor or theory and runs with it only to lend to the eventual development of that into a reality.
What I am trying to say is, even if RAC is not on the hot seat or there is no QB problem, if you say these things enough and get enough people to listen then eventually they often become reality and the idiot who propogated the story (lies) looks like the genius who got the scoop!
People see and hear these storys so often that the perception of under lying truth puts pressure on those responsible for decissions about the team. Phil is politely asking them to shut the F*** up! And deservedly so.... IMHO

Seriously, rumors are not accurate 100% of the time. But, I am not headed down the path of the Illuminati and vast right wing conspiracies to believe the Cleveland/national media has an agenda to bury the Browns.

This is the way it is..the media does start some controversies...and sometimes some of them report true stories.. But on the other hand U can't beleive every rumor that is floated around as if it's fact. As I said when the decision was made to sit BQ , which SHOULD NOT BE A problem it was asked to him did he agree with it, instead of leaving that alone . The fact it was asked was to create or get BQ to spill his feelings of disapproval..which would have been magnified out of control. So yeah Phil saw through it..the media itches for some sort of disunity..and will POUNCE on it if they can get a grip on it.

It isn't black and white. The media does sometimes ask inappropriate question or look for smoke where there is none.
As another "media was right" moment - if you recall, no one in the Browns FO said word 1 about Bentley's patella injury. They provided no updates. If we solely trusted Phil to feed us the info, we would not have known anything about LeCharles until training camp? Phil answered a couple of questions about LeCharles in June when it was reported that another surgery may be necessary.
If I recall, the media broke stories all season and offseason about the struggle in Bentley's recovery process.
The media has reported that Zastudil has a back injury. The Browns have simply said, "We expect him to be suited up on Sunday."

if you recall, no one in the Browns FO said word 1 about Bentley's patella injury. Because he wasn't with the team..they allowed him to have his privacy (AND WHATEVER legal ramifications are involved I don't know)..I 'm not sure what they could have reported on themselves since he was being worked on by a doctor outside of their facility.. Personally I wasn't waiting on Phil to supply me with anything because they did after it all came to a head..which is o.k by me.
If I recall, the media broke stories all season and offseason about the struggle in Bentley's recovery process. Your point?? I fail to see anything in that? The Browns neither refuted it nor supported the stories at the time..they gave a timeline that they would comment on it and they did.

My point is - many posters in this thread have taken the "If Phil or Romeo didn't say it - then, it is a rumor generated by the media to sell papers."

HILARIOUS and since you asked, I think the Saints rough evening single handedly gave me the Loss for week 1 but I will reserve my ventings for the gaming forum...

Link doesn't work, and I am sure it doesn't have quotes from RAC and Savage saying that they had no faith in the QBs, the QBs aren't NFL caliber, etc. as your post said as "fact" (I paraphrased your "facts", but that was the gist of them).
I am always proud of my team and will be even moreso when we make it to the playoffs again.
Keep your chin up, you still have plenty of time to get that fantasy championship.

The media has reported that Zastudil has a back injury. The Browns have simply said, "We expect him to be suited up on Sunday."
With the way the Browns have handled injury information on players:
Holcomb: teeny tiny fracture of non weight bearing bone = broken leg Edwards: having an elbow issue = surgery + staff infection Bentley: slight complications arising from surgery = leg nearly amputated
Zastudil: We expect him to be suited up on Sunday = Dead. In suit, in coffin about to be buried.

Coach I see where you are coming from but do you really need a link to see the obvious. Quote:

Actions speak louder than words so I would say making a play for Trent Green (which I do have a link) or drafting Brady Quinn (which I do have a link) would tell anyone with any common sense that Savage and Rac felt that they did'nt have any faith in Frye or Anderson. It seems that some of you can not read the writing on the wall even when it is in plain English!
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!
