U can get a stud safety in the 2nd I doubt it this year. There will be a run on all db's, it's probably already started, and it's because the young qb's are doing so well, and guys like Luck coming back from injury.

The run on Db's, The Giants already traded for Jabril Peppers, the Ravens signed (Thomas), if I recall his name correctly. NFLNetwork said.
I feel a slight bit sad the Browns had interest in Jefferson last year, and he went to the Ravens, and this year, this other safety.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Bro, when Mourg said "in the 2nd," he was talking about the draft. Not free agency.
I thought you would get my little joke.

I just looked back thinking I may find something saying the Browns added a safety. I definetly think there is a need since they sent Jabrill Pepper to the Giants. ( I didn't like Peppers as a draft pick, I wished they'd have taken younger brother Lb who went to the steelers that year),
But then when he started playing well and changing momentum in games last year, I think they should have kept him and see how much better he'll get.
If the Browns have to reach for a bad player, (like the pick of Kizer turned out to be)... to replace Jabril Peppers, then the team just takes a step back,
and the window is short now, because they made this , Odell Beckham Jr trade, (short window years wise), a trade which I said I didn't like.
I hope they find somehow to address this DB need, whether safety or corner, because the team isn't going to be all it could be, if they have 2nd quarters like they had against Indianapolis 2 years ago, 2017.
(whew), Browns have a pretty good young quarterback.

I don't know?
I liked Berry when he was headed to the NFL from Tennessee.
Seems he has had the injury bug-a-boo for a while.

That's ... interesting.
While the drop off from Peppers to Kindred may not have been all that much, the drop off from Kindred to whoever will be more noticeable.
I wonder if this means we are signing Berry or Boston?

This move of cutting Kindred makes ZERO sense. He was a 4th round pick. His contract wasn't crazy. He has the potential to be a starting safety on a lot of teams.
Weird.

I was not a big fan of Kindred and thought many on this board overrated him. I always thought he was good against the run, but a liability in the passing game.
My first reaction is that it seems crazy to cut him. Then, my next reaction is that Dorsey has to have a plan in place.
Right?

no doubt ... he has a plan to probably draft a few safeties ... and then sign a vet for competition/depth
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Do we know if the SS position in this defense is going to be doing more coverage or run support?
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Our defense has been compromised for years because we haven't had a SS who can cover. TJ Ward sucked at it. Kindred was beyond awful. And Peppers was terrible, too.
Our LBers have been asked to do an inordinate amount in terms of coverage. Opposing teams have had a lot of success w/their TEs and exploiting the shorter passes over the middle of the field. Our LBers have received a lot of the blame for that, but it's always been my contention that our SS's are the biggest weakness in the passing game. I think the fact that our LBers have played more downs than any other team speaks to the issue of how bad our safeties have been in coverage.
I will say I am surprised by this announcement, but after giving it some thought, I am guessing we sign either Boston or Berry. Either would be a significant upgrade, provided that Berry is healthy.

yeah pretty much exactly the same here.
Berry might be a dot the i's and cross the t's thing and he's here??? I'm sure we got a plan just announcing cutting Kindred first before we get the 1,2,3 additions coming soon.
should be happy by the time we go and start training camp and have a solid 4 Safties at the least!

I kind of get your argument, but why not add someone and keep Kindred for depth and special teams? Once we get a couple better guys, sure, cut him. Timing just seems a bit odd.

Maybe it is a respect thing to our players to let them have a good long shot at getting on a new team and be in somebodies plans.
I'm sure (99% sure) that Dorsey has his ducks in a row just has to get it all together...maybe at this stage of the FA market its wait and see what happens in the draft (got a felling we got some targeted) and then add some depth from the FA market???
I would like for us to sign Berry but he has to pass a medical examination first. And some depth to spell him but he would be a great addition to our locker room and leadership for the D!

For weeks now twice a day or more I google "eric berry news."
If he is healthy he is a great player. Good person, good teammate, smart, can cover can play the position at a high level.
He would be a good get.

Does Kindred not have trade value?2 Apparently not, as it was reported that we tried to deal him and had no takers. Box SS that are poor in coverage are not hard to find.

You bring up a good point that I cannot dispute. I had always thought his run defense made up for his pass defense. I suppose what matters is if he fits our defense. I'm guessing that he was not in the plans. Whether that means we draft one, or what, not sure... but if he's not in the plans, why keep him.
For the record, I don't think I overrate him. I do think he's a very good SS vs the run... in fact, perhaps even better than Peppers... but I thought Peppers was a little better at covering than Kindred. Again, if we want a CB converted safety for covering purposes, ala TJ Carrie or something, then sure, let's move on...
