I’ve seen a couple of reports that say Joe Haden will be a cap cut in Pittsburgh. Not only because of the sentimental aspect - but is there a spot for Joe on the new new Browns? https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2826...re=other#slide0

Does anyone think Joe could play SS? He isn't very big, but he is a pretty good tackle. I'm not sure. What do you guys think about that?

How about a backup to free safety Randall?? his size would not be a detriment to playing that position.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was about Joe Thomas.
Haden ... why not?

We need DBs who are more likely to make it through a full season healthy, not ones that are less likely than the ones we already have.
Joe was a good player for us. I don't think he's better than our top 3 corners now, though. He'll also be on the wrong side of 30 come the season. If he hadn't joined the Steelers, maybe I'd be more sentimental.
Sure, I'd sign him to be a special teamer at the right price, but I'm guessing he still wants to be a starter.

Nice to see RAWISRADFORD posting.
Of Course if it were up to me, I think Joe would be a no brainer to come back home, where he was for 9/10's of his career (guess), for God's sake.
He doesn't forget, hasn't forgot how to play football.
When the playoffs start, just about every team has a couple ex Browns on it, and contributing, so I don't see any unwritten rule to avoid bringing somebody back, that shouldn't be broken anyway.
You can never have enough good corners. Safeties too.
The Colts just gave former Browns draft pick and player Desir a new contract. (unless there's another).
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

SS? Well he is not the prototype.
He would have the cover skills. If I person is tackled he doesn't need to be blown up. Just stop him. Get him down quickly.
Joe has always been a good tackler.
However, although he is popular. And it would be cool to see him in a Browns helmet again.
I doubt that Dorsey would go that route. Joe is 29. He would have to make a position change that could be difficult.
Can't say if it would work? I just think Dorsey would look elsewhere.

Joe has been a pile-jumper for at least three years now...he's done...and has been done for awhile now. Past time to move on.
Next year's 'Joe' is Kirksey...these recent/old Browns are d-o-n-e...that old song is over.

I don't think he's the type of player, age-wise, Dorsey is looking to sign. He has veterans in the secondary, Carrie, Gaines, Randall, and the oldest guys on the team, not including Drew Stanton, are 28. Haden will be 30 next month. I don't see it happening.

I wouldn't mind having Joe Haden as a fourth corner, but that is a huge downgrade in role and cut in pay.

I wondered if he could be put into a mix to cover slots, trips, and such. Joe at SS should be doable. One-year contract? He doesn't strike me as a cover corner anymore for us. ST? Certainly.
I feel like I would like to see him retire a Brown. He can still play.

I doubt he'll be an option. I bet we draft S/CB and also sign a SS from FA before then

Joe Haden, for me, is a really interesting topic here on this board.
He never truly lived up to his draft status, but more than that, he never seemed to turn that corner that many felt he had all the tools for. Looking back, he was super frustrating to root for.
That said, I think he can be an asset now that we have the opportunity to pay him closer to what he's worth. I think he'd do just fine as a 2nd or third corner... we can (and have) done a LOT worse than Joe Haden once an injury or two has affected our backfield. I would love to have him competing to be our 2nd outside corner (I don't see him being able to man the slot position) while simultaneously working on learning the FS position. I've always thought that he would be a great candidate to learn FS before his body was completely shot. He's a good and willing tackler, and still has enough speed. It would be really nice, when we're forced to shift Randall up to corner to fill in for injury like we did last year, to have someone that competent and capable slide into his spot.
I'll end my post by looping back to where I started. Haden's history here is an interesting one that I think affects many people's assessment of him. No, he's not the guy he should've been (never was and definitely isn't now), but that's not why he'd come here. While you don't need a DB room full of Patrick Petersons, Wards, etc, you do need a handful of competent DBs, and Haden is still one of those.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I agree, he didn't live up to that draft selection (but how many players did from 1999-2016)
He was serviceable, with a good year or two sprinkled in

Does anyone think Joe could play SS? He isn't very big, but he is a pretty good tackle. I'm not sure. What do you guys think about that? Could he? Yes, he was always good in run support and quickly diagnosing run vs pass. The problem with him is that he is unlikely to hold up for a full season at any spot you put him and even more so at SS. He'll want decent money and I just don't see Dorsey handing it out to an injury prone 30 yr old CB that will be switching to SS. Someone will make him a good offer to play CB for a year if he wants to, but he may want to start thinking about playing FS to extend his career much like Woodson did. Woodson lost his wheels like Hayden did, but like Hayden, he was extremely good at diagnosing the play and that let him extend his career.

Haden. Not Hayden.
If we brought him here, I don't think he would start at FS unless we ran two FS's.
If he came here as a CB, he'd be our 3rd CB.
I don't see us giving him the kind of money he'll want for that sort of a role. I suppose we might, but more likely is he'll be out there after the Draft and either he will take a 1-year deal and try again next year, or he will wait for a team that has an injury and needs a CB, or one that needs one but couldn't get one in the Draft.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

He was serviceable, with a good year or two sprinkled in Since 1999 Joe Haden has been the sixth most valuable seventh overall pick. That's not horrible and I would say that he lived up to his draft status. http://pfref.com/tiny/Edyy6

Joe Haden will be 30 next month.
How many 30 year old players has Dorsey chased after since arriving in Cleveland?

Pass. He traded in his chance when he signed with Pittsburgh. Get over than man....we released him. He signed the best deal. As for Joe, I have liked him since he played for the Gators. I disagree with people who don't think he lived up....he was a darn good corner. Joe is one of the best tackling corners I have ever seen. I'd hire him if for nothing else to teach Ward how to be a physical corner and not get your block knocked off. Joe wrapped up in perfect form everytime. But, there is no going back, so no. Also, Joe was a solid ambassador for the city.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Maybe I'm a bit partial in this one, but overall I think we have to be fair the old regime and say, although the signings were not that good, there is nothing to say about the cuts.
He was cut at the right moment.

He has also seemed to have gotten more handsy as he slowed down IMO. We do not need a flag infusion. Interesting idea, but I think this ship has sailed unless he could be had for a bargain. I still wish him the best.
