Would be surprising if we got anything but another late round pick given his play last year.

well, he's gone clearly

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

So lets figure this out. Clearly when Dorsey said we didn’t get “real players” he had a specific type in mind. From what I can tell, he is talking about all of the “Athletes” that turned out to not be very good football players. Let’s list the combine warriors he has already gotten rid of.

Jettisons:
Corey Coleman
Emmanuel Ogbah (soon)
Jabrill Peppers
Deshone Kizer
Danny Shelton
Jason McCourty
Cody Kessler
Kevin Hogan
Shon Coleman
Josh Gordon
Derrick Kindred

Traded for:
Jarivs Landry
Odell Behckham Jr.
Olivier Vernon
Damarious Randall

It’s truely amazing how much better the analytics department has gotten since we hired Dorsey ... they’ve really turned it around since Dorsey showed up ...rofl ...

A compete transformation! Almost like a prince kissed them and awoke them from a deep sleep!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Let's try and put this in a little perspective, shall we?

And this is with him still as GM at KC.

This isn't to compare the two people and their first drafts, but rather show how many picks for all NFL GMs don't work out, especially the later-round ones. And I always find it comical when people reference late round picks as "busts". The hit rate is horrible and that's why some people on here embrace the idea of getting more picks in the earlier rounds or being smarter when it comes to compensatory picks.

What's the hit rate on the top 4 picks? I bet it's much higher. wink

Jury is still out on Peppers and Njoku. Peppers has been traded. He came along some last year but he was traded for a reason.
Njoku has the measurables but he’s not a complete TE. At least not yet. He’s got a distance to go to get there. Size and speed isn’t enough. Blocking, reliable hands, learning the nuances of finding soft spots in zones... these are things he needs work on to call him a ‘hit’.

The first four picks of a draft. Njoku the jury is still out on that one. Looks good for a young player but let's be honest, he still need to develop. Garrett is certainly a hit and Peppers? I guess that depends on what you call a hit.

You can try to debate this all day, but if you're trying to indicate that any of the drafts since these analytics guys got here even sniffs Dorsey's draft you will be arguing a losing battle. And I actually think you know that.

But you haven't given up yet. smile

No, I'm not. I'm debating what was done in the past wasn't simply tear down, there were legitimate pieces added, sound decision made for the long term, and Dorsey wouldn't have the opporunuities to have players like Ward, Chubb, etc. if not for the moves made the two year prior to

Again, I think I showed you what Dorsey's draft would have been like if not for the additional picks he was provided:

Rd 1- Baker Mayfield
Rd 2. Austin Corbett
Rd 3- (Traded for Tyrod Taylor)
Rd 4- (Traded w/ another pick from the last regime for Damarious Randall)
Rd 5- Genard Avery
Rd 6- Damion Ratley
Rd 7- (I believe was used in a trade to get a late round pick this draft)

I would not call two guys going into their 3rd year with major question marks as a "hit". Both Njoku and Peppers were liabilities in year one, produced enough to not call them a bust in year 2.

I know we are the Browns so our standards a little skewed, but Njoku and Peppers are middling 1st round talents who have not produced enough to be declared not a bust. Think about it like this, JuJu, Kareem Hunt, TJ Watt and Alvin Kamara were drafted AFTER both Njoku and Peppers.

Ogbah was one of the guys I highlighted before the draft. He's been a bit disappointing, but I was hoping we would keep him as a rotational guy. This is the one move [if it happens] that I am not in agreement with.

I agree, I don't see the dire need to move him. However, he was not good last season, at all.

Dorsey's 1st overall pick was a bust in KC, if you want to get down to it.

Psssttttt.................Dorsey's first overall pick in Cleveland looks like a great choice, if you want to get down to it.

Hate to see us trade Ogbah, but if we can get a starting SS in a 1 for 1 player trade I would be ok with that ...

j/c, I would think that Ogbah being in the final year of his contract, would be motivated to play at\with his highest potential this coming season ... Thus I would like to see how he might respond.

With that said ... imo Smith is a better option for a rotational guy.
So if we where to trade him it should not effect our depth @DE.

So are you also giving hue a big thanks because he was such a sucky HC?

Because you seem to forget how many, including you said that Hue should have won more games. Had he have done that, we probably wouldn't have been in the position to draft Baker.

Do you realize that we had 14 draft picks in 2016, right? And 11, including 3 first round picks in 2017, right?

Let's not pretend that the former regime built draft picks up. They inherited a similar situation when they got here. They just continued it.

If you would like, we can look at the salary cap situation those two years as well.

So if you mean they continued the trend that existed when they came here, i would agree.

Don't know much about him. Looks like he was drafted as a CB and then transitioned to free safety.

Note that this was from a quick glance at Wikipedia. Which already mentions the trade to Cleveland.

So, take it for what it's worth.

There are some pretty good depth guys still out there in free agency at defensive end, I wouldn't be shocked to see us sign a veteran who can fill in some behind Garrett and Vernon.

Browns trade DE Ogbah to Chiefs for Eric Murray

By Herbie Teope
Around The NFL Writer
Published: April 1, 2019 at 05:04 p.m. Updated: April 1, 2019 at 05:14 p.m.
Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey put on his wheeling-and-dealing hat yet again.

The Browns announced Monday afternoon that defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah has been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for safety Eric Murray. The Chiefs also announced the transaction.

Ogbah did not report Monday for the start of the Browns' voluntary offseason workout program while the Browns actively pursued a trade partner, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier.

With Ogbah, the Chiefs land an experienced player for a retooled defensive front as the team transitions from a 3-4 base defense to a 4-3 front under new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. In three seasons with the Browns, Ogbah started 40 games and totaled 122 tackles, 12.5 sacks and 29 quarterback hits.

The Chiefs previously signed defensive end Alex Okafor during free agency and the additions of Okafor and Ogbah come after Kansas City parted ways with outside linebackers Justin Houston, who later signed a free-agent deal with the Indianapolis Colts, and Dee Ford, whom the Chiefs traded to the San Francisco 49ers.

Meanwhile, Cleveland gets a player Dorsey knows well. Murray entered the league in 2016 as a fourth-round draft pick with the Chiefs while Dorsey served as the general manager.

The 25-year-old Murray, a converted college cornerback, provides versatility on the back end of coverage and replaces safety Derrick Kindred, who was released earlier Monday.

On his three-year career, Murray has appeared in 45 games with 11 starts, totaling 72 tackles, a sack, an interception and seven passes defensed.
