I think the foul call was legit, but they often overlook that type of foul at the end of the games.........kinda like PI on a Hail Mary. But, the double dribble was a horrific missed call.

The double dribble should have been called. The foul had to be called, the defender jumped into him.

Ok. Watch the defender right before the double dribble....first he reaches in, and then grabs the guy's wrist. He was actually trying to foul him as they still had one to give.

jfan............it was still a bad call. There is no question about that.

With that said, both teams played well and gave themselves an opportunity to win. I am not dogging UVA or dismissing what they did.

I'm just saying that I don't like when bad calls decide games. I think Browns fans can understand that after the Oakland debacle last year. The difference is that this BB game was on a huge stage.

Not saying it wasn't a double dribble, but there were two fouls not called right before it happened.

Nobody's taking it personal, it was a crappy way to lose a game.

Weird................they show the TT coach running towards the locker room and the team waiting for him but cut away as they pray and then go back to them after it's over.

That double dribble can't be missed in a regular season game in the 1st half, let alone the final 4 with 5 seconds to go ...

The foul call was borderline, and could be accepted either way IMO ... but watch the last game of the Syracuse/Kansas title game and see how similar the plays are

And Texas Tech is phenomenal on D ... and is a better team that UVA IMO

As much as everyone is complaining about the double dribble, NOBODY saw it live. The TNT crew pointed out no fans or the Auburn bench jumped up with the double dribble signal. I don't know that for a fact, but that's what they said. Meaning, it wasn't like Chris Webber's travel many years ago where everyone not a Michigan fan immediately jumped up within a split second freaking out.

As for the foul to end the game, that was a textbook call. He jumped from A to B, made contact with the shooter with his body and I believe the ball was just leaving his hand too. That's a foul in the first or second half and even in a throw-away game in December. That's AT BEST a 40% success rate kind of shot in the moment. Take the 60% but DON'T FOUL! Too bad.

It's not their job to see it. But everybody "saw it".. it wasn't like it was a questionable call, the call was totally obvious... it was rules interpretation error, which the refs are there to control..

As for the call on the shot in the corner.. at first I thought it was a ticky-tack call because I thought the ball was long gone from his hand before the contact and, in that case, I don't think you make the call on a little body contact that didn't impact the shot.. after watching the replay, the ball had NOT left his hand before the contact so you have to make the call..

Auburn had their chances and they failed to capitalize... at worst, if their best free throw shooter makes both shots before that possession, all things being equal, that shot/3 free throws, just forces OT... or.. you are now up by 3 so you can foul them all the way down the court like they did but you could take the last foul and put them on the line for 2 shots and never give them a chance at a game winning 3... that missed free throw with :07 by a guy who shoots 83% was costly.

Long gone? Dude...check 22 seconds. He bumps him with the ball still in his hand. Long gone? Now freaking way.

Sorry, didn't read the 2nd half of the sentence clearly.

Auburn did call a timeout before the 3rd free throw attempt, obviously to ice the shooter, but then they didn't have any remaining. Had they not done that, could they have used the timeout to advance the ball to halfcourt? I know the NBA allows that, but would the same happen in college?

I do not believe college advances the ball in that situation... I was not a fan of that time out anyway.. I would have let him shoot the 3rd one.. I think the "icing" just served to relax him.. I think it's harder to stand there and make 3 in a row than to make 2, go rest, clear your head, and come back and shoot the 3rd one...

I'm not sure what the actual stat is, but I bet the % of time a college kid makes all 3 free throws in a row is fairly low..

DC ... it's very common practice to call TO if the FT shooter makes the first (of 2 or 3) or second (of 3) to break their concentration. If I were Pearly, I would have done the same thing in that spot.

Now, if he'd have missed? Leave him up there.

I understand it's common, that doesn't make it right. It was always common to punt on 4th and 1 on your own side of the field but teams are rethinking that now because analytics is proving the odds are in your favor to go for it...

As I said, I don't have the analytics to prove it with free throws, it's much more of a gut feel... I just think it's harder to make 3 consecutive than 2.. *break* then 1...

Totally agree. Foul call was the right one to make. The kid dribbling up the court that lost control did an amazing job of just selling that whole play. Just picked it up and went on with his business lol

I really hate when the media whines about who advances and wins in all of sports. They'll give you ratings numbers as if that's relevant to the point. Like just because Duke, Carolina, Kentucky, and the media darling Syracuse aren't in it, doesn't mean sports fans don't want to watch. The games on Saturday were entertaining. The game tonight I think will be really good.

I think Texas Tech takes it tonight

Virginia should have put their foot on TT's throat at the beginning. When a team can't make a basket in the first 7 minutes, the game should be over.

Watching a replay on who touched it last, REALLY sours me on the game,

I'll tune in to something else, and check back in a few minutes.

(I don't care if they get the call wrong, it's not big a deal.)
