Absolutely no reason to get rid of Ogbah.

Yeah... a two year deal most likely. Maybe even a one-year deal if most of the money is paid in 2019 with a smallish cap hit in 2020.

One year deal would mean about 14.5 million in dead cap space in 2020 (assuming the 21.5m is a signing bonus).

Had a brain fart and was confusing 2019 with 2020 apparently.

No way we get comp picks for this year's free agency class.

Next Year:

Ogbah
G Robinson
JC Tretter
J Schobert

Possibly:

D Randall
R Higgins

and a slew of lesser guys like Devalve, Coley, Kindred et cetera

Dorsey still has work to do to plan for the future.

The guaranteed monies usually include the 1st year's pay (or at least they usually include it when they release that stuff)

If it's 21.5 million in "guarantees", the remaining either 14.5 or 17.5 (depending on the report you're looking at) is the total of years two and three.

ie; if it's the 39 million estimate:

Year one:Something like a 2.5 million base; 7 million roster bonus and 12 million signing bonus (just going off Dorsey's other big contracts he likes to play with roster bonuses early.)
Year two: some form of 8.5 million
Year 3: some form of 9 million

---a 12 millions signing bonus would prorate to 4 million per year of the contract.

No one freak out, the above is just an example smile And probably worse case scenario as a lot of reports are also showing 36 million over 3 years (performance incentives maybe making a difference)

No telling how it might be structured.

It may just be 13 mil a year for 3 years. 21.5 guaranteed. It's covered in the first 2 years.

I would guess that it is probably structured something like this:

3 years, $39 million, $21.5 million guaranteed:

Signing bonus $10 million
1st year salary: $8 million guaranteed (cap hit $10.33 million)
2nd year salary: $10 million, $3.5 million guaranteed (cap hit $13.33 million, dead cap $6.83 million)
3rd year salary: $11 million, no guarantee (cap hit $14.33 million, $3.33 million dead cap)

I'm glad we got a DT, our front 7 was bad last year...We are retaining Coley for depth...And this draft is deep at DT (hopefully we can get another talented kid from the draft)...Richardson has always been very talented, I'm hoping he plays focused for us and plays really well.

J/C love the signing but more because it means that we don’t have to reach on a DT now. Dorsey has been brilliant in signing guys who can do a job so we don’t have to fill a hole. This is already an upgrade.

Admittedly the holes now are more like potholes on a new road rather than a lack of road - love how the franchise is building.

Credit to Bonefish as I think he called this on the Defensive Tackle thread in the draft forum. Kudos, sir.

No, but I wish we did. I was very pleased when we drafted him...

Aren't most GM's guaranteeing the first year of all contracts now to inflate the numbers?

If so, it's likely that he's cuttable after the first year with that contract.

ON the list of ( Sacks/ QB Hits,/ Tackles for loss)... Ogunjobi outdid him.
Hmm.

Was listening Willie McGinest.

He stated that the Vernon and Richardson adds will make a big difference. Less blitzing and freeing up Garrett from double teams.

I am now shifting focus to linebacker.

Dorsey went after CJ. An indication something will most likely happen there.

I don't see a free agent now. Maybe we go all in for Devin White or maybe Bush.

I think Dorsey will still try and upgrade the CB position and add a DT outside of round one.

Those are guesses. I actually have no clue. LOL

Tre Lamar and Germaine Pratt will be 2 options in round 2.
We might trade up into the backend of round 1 for Mack Wilson

The key on what we do with Ogbah has a lot to do with Chad Thomas our 3rd round pick last season that was on the IR the entire time. They are one in the same kind of player. If Thomas starts to show us that he is a stud then Ogbah is prime to be traded we will wait till way after the draft and possibly even when the games start somebody might lose a player from the EDGE and Ogbah gets more attractive also - when you are so far removed from the draft it is only then that you can get the better of the deal regarding picks.

Guys who would only go for a 5th round pick because we a month or so away from the draft...after the draft and before the trade dead line would be able to get a 3rd. If you see what I mean.

Ogbah then could possibly get us a 2nd rounder for 2020.

I like the kid but right now I would like the draft pick, well not right now, after training camp starts!

Vers: Richardson is good against the run. He like most have to be in the right scheme, when he was with the Jets he was a beast against the run. Last year I can see his PFF grades weren't up to par but that falls under Diams perception of stats. The kid can play against the Run. Just need the correct scheme and he has to get use to the scheme remember he's been in one year contracts for 2 seasons so that is 2 schemes in 3 years!

I say, who cares. If it gets you a winner, it's worth the money. Just watch the CAP John... Be careful and smart.

With all of the excitement around OBJ, and by extension Vernon, I'd completely forgotten about Richardson.

This has been a crazy week!!

I think Richardson gives a similar (if somewhat less flashy) boost to the D that OBJ does on O. Plus, he doesn't cost us draft picks. I was pretty stoked at the announcement and then radio silence for a while in the OBJ frenzy. I was worried someone offered more money at the last minute.

I agree Richardson and Ogynjobi will be stout together against the run and both can get to the passer as well ...

Three years, $37 million for Sheldon Richardson

He’s been chasing “Suh money” for years, and he’s finally gotten it. Sort of.

New Browns defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson has a three-year, $37 million deal. That’s an average of $12.33 million per year, kind of close to what Ndamukong Suh received a year ago from the Rams, but still a far cry from Suh’s massive free-agent deal with the Dolphins from four years ago.

Here’s a breakdown of the deal:

1. Signing bonus: $4 million.

2. 2019 roster bonus: $8.5 million, due on the fourth day of the league year.

3. 2019 base salary: $1.75 million, fully guaranteed.

5. 2020 base salary: $11.9 million, guaranteed for injury at signing; $2 million of that amount is fully guaranteed at signing, and another $6 million becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2020 league year.

6. 2021 base salary: $11.9 million.

7. 2020-2021 workout bonuses: $100,000.

The deal also has up to $1.5 million in escalators based on sacks and playing time for 2020 and 2021.

In all, Richardson gets $14.25 million fully guaranteed, with total guarantees of $21.5 million.

The 2014 defensive rookie of the year, Richardson was traded by the Jets to the Seahawks, before signing a one-year deal in 2018 with the Vikings.

What I like about this is his contract will be ending just as we'll need some cap space to re-sign some of our top players.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Value wise, this might be my favorite sign or trade so far in free agency.

Gah, seeing those escalators kind of has me hyped. 9 sacks would totally be worth the bump. Playoffs, too.

Perhaps we might feel Richardson is one of our top players by then .. and it all adds to the confusion.

He'll help free up other guys, no? Aren't you always talking about keeping LBs clean? Interior pressure can flush QBs into sacks and lead to picks as well.

That's a nice gif, though.

Grimm, I like the signing of Richardson. I even talked about wanting us to sign him before it became reality. I just don't think you can compare him to OBJ.

Glad you liked the gif. I thought it was kinda cool for this scenario. laugh

Well, we were kind of right.

It's a defacto 2 year, 25 million dollar pack with a 3rd year option.

Those highlights are nice. I might have to pull up some full games and see how well he keeps it up for 4 quarters. If he does, look out. Big Ben is gonna be sore this year.

Sheldon Richardson just might be the most unheralded, but biggest impact upgrade this offseason. If it wasn't for all the swooning (deservedly) over getting OBJ, this would be much more hyped.

If Vernon can bring the heat at DE, our DL is going to be fearsome.

We are going to put pressure on opponents on both sides of the ball.... score fast to force them to pass to keep up, then crush their souls with strong defensive backs and a crazy pass rush. I still feel like Linebackers and their coverage is a weakness where we can die a death of a thousand cuts, but that will require teams to execute consistantly in the face of serious pressure.

I think I suggested something to this affect as well. Or the best value ...something like that. The contract is favorable to the team in many ways and he should get alot of oppotunities to be successful alongside Garrett, Ogunjobi, and Vernon.

As long as he doesn't catch Kenny Britt syndrome, he'll be a huge asset. There is a reason he's been on 1 year deals though ..... because he got lazy in NY if not kept motivated ...... but hopefully he's grown up now.
