Thanks for info. Hopefully this is good news, but a part of me remembers how the Indians always soft-pedal injuries, so I'm not sure.

Cleveland Indians' Mike Clevinger expected to miss multiple months with back injury
According to Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona, it will be 6-8 weeks before starting pitcher Mike Clevinger resumes baseball activity.

After being pulled from the Cleveland Indians' win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, Mike Clevinger said he was confident he'd be making his next scheduled start.

But as it turns out, the 28-year-old right-hander's injury was worse than believed.

On Tuesday, the Indians announced that Clevinger had been placed on the 10-day injured list -- although that's not necessarily indicative of the severity of what's been labeled a "right upper back/Teres major muscle strain." Speaking to reporters in Detroit ahead of Cleveland's 1:10 p.m. matchup with the Tigers, Indians manager Terry Francona revealed that it will be at least six-to-eight weeks before Clevinger picks up a baseball and resumes pitching activity.

Although he's technically Cleveland's No. 4 starter, the loss of Clevinger is a significant one for an Indians' team still without All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor. After working all offseason to improve his velocity, the player nicknamed "Sunshine" put together two impressive starts to kickoff his 2019 campaign, recording a career-high 12 strikeouts in the Indians home opener vs. the Chicago White Sox last week.

After receiving a no-decision after pitching seven scoreless inning against the White Sox, Clevinger earned his first win of the season on Sunday when he recorded 10 strikeouts in five innings to complete a sweep against the Blue Jays. Although he was pulled after throwing just 75 pitches, Clevinger insisted his removal from the game due to back tightness was merely precautionary although tests later revealed his injury to be more severe that he initially believed.

In Clevinger's place, the Indians have called up right-handed pitcher Nick Wittgren from Triple-A Columbus. Acquired from the Miami Marlins in a February trade, Wittgren posted a 2-1 record, 2.94 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 32 appearances at the major league level last season.

Man, they said maybe September before Clev can pitch. Nice weapon for the post-season .... but man it makes it so much harder to make the post season.

Evidently Cody Anderson will be back up tomorrow.

Tribe wins, assuming our rightful place atop the AL Central. The Browns are favored by many to win the AFC North. The Cavs are going to take RJ Barrett and have the best backcourt in the NBA for years to come.... All is good with the world.

Cavs will win the lottery.

It's what they do.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

So, does Clevinger basically have a torn back muscle?

If so, his career must be in big time jeopardy.

Here’s what I’m thinking.

Clevinger was dedicating himself to being a main cog of the Indians phenomenal pitching staff.

He worked hard. Real hard.

Come the regular season his work was starting to pay-off.

He was hitting 97 mph on the radar gun. Improved control.

Then he’s thrilled. He’s gonna be a staff ace. And reaches even deeper. Everything he’s got.

The back muscle rips.

It’s very hard for me to imagine that his back muscle will ever heal “like new”.

This reads like a classic case study to me.

There’s been so much phenomenal talent lost when the body tried to keep up with the mind.

(I think Bo Jackson could have been by far the greatest athlete that ever lived)

Well, if there’s any good news, it’s that 83.9% of the time I have no clue what I’m talking about.

So we got that going for us.

It's an injury that takes time to heal, but I have heard nothing that suggests that it's at all career threatening.

Some Indians pitchers, including Clevinger, have been following Trevor Bauer's lead by using weighted ball training because it is supposed to increase velocity by 3.3%. It apparently worked for Clevinger because his fastball was sitting at 97+ this season. The bad news is that some orthopedic specialists found that it also produces a significant increase of injury to participants. A study showed 24% more pitchers using weighted ball training had injuries than the control group who did not.

Did you just snark me? Because I didn't use any UBB code on the link above it either. I posted both links the same way as I've always posted links - highlight, copy, and paste. For some reason it didn't work on this one.

Thanks for fixing it, though.

Tribe wins 4-0.

Great start by Beiber again. Cimber and Hand finished it off.

Leonys Martin had a nice game too, as did Carlos Santana.

on pace for a 95 win season... this is without Lindor, Gonzales and Kipnis in the lineup. i could see another starting pitcher go down at some point seems like our luck. but we are fortunate to be in the division we are in.

Davis snapped his major league hitless streak at 54 at-bats when he singled one into right field off of Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello in the second inning of Saturday's game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- If shortstop Francisco Lindor’s last trip around the bases went well, he’s expected to join Class AAA Columbus on Sunday to begin his rehab assignment.

“Frankie ran the bases today for the second day in a row,” said manager Terry Francona, before Saturday night’s game against the Royals. “He’ll come work out tomorrow just to make sure there are no ill effects. . .no repercussions for the second day workout. Then when we head to Seattle, he may head to Louisville, that’s where Columbus will be.

“But we want him to go through a workout tomorrow just to make sure everyone agrees it’s the right thing to do."

Columbus opens a three-game series against Louisville on Monday.

Lindor, a three-time All-Star, missed all of spring training with a strained right calf. Just as he was putting the calf injury behind him, he sprained his left ankle late in spring training.

Francona doesn’t think Lindor will need that many at-bats to get ready to join the Indians. He thinks the organization’s biggest hurdle will be finding ways to protect Lindor from himself.

“He wants to play so bad and we respect that,” said Francona. “But we don’t want to look back and say, ‘Man, we should have done this.’ But he’s not going to need a lot of at-bats. I just think it’s more just checking how he gets through the ups and downs of the game and if he’s OK the next day.”

Lindor hit .277 last year with 129 runs, 38 homers and 92 RBI. He played 158 games and led the AL with 661 at-bats.

How the heck do you face Homer "can i buy an out" Bailey and come away with no runs and only 2 hits in 7 innings?

Francona knows he can't go through the season with this line up and win anything ! Sure would be nice if they would spring for a REAL batting Coach ! Jose is a mad man at the plate .

Kluber has something out of whack.

Might as well start the rebuild now. What can we get for trading Lindor, Kluber, and Bauer?

I have given up on the Tribe, for a few reasons. MLB makes it too easy for owners to be cheap and stick it to the fans. The other, well - are just the Dolans for multiple reasons as well that I wont get into.

But hey, "enjoy him while we have him" or whatever crap statement they put out about Frankie.

I hate to say this, but it looked like he was limping a bit on that leg/calf/ankle between 2nd and 3rd base. Hope they aren't rushing him back.

104 pitches and Francona is letting Bieber start the 7th. Francona doesn't trust the bullpen......at all.
