He died this month.

The Ghoul was the 70s version of Ghoulardi.

A Cleveland late night TV icon. Born, lived and died in Cleveland.

I was out of there by then, so can't say I remember him. Maybe I caught him 1-2 times on a visit back to my folks house.

Based on the 45 seconds I watched, I probably turned off the TV.

If you are going to take over for a iconic figure, don't try to act and imitate the person.

Create your own persona.

Was this before or after Hoolihan and Big Chuck? Had to have been after. Bob Wells (Hoolihan) retired in Florida close to where my folks retired. I ran in to him 3-4 times when down there and my brother who still lives in the areas says he still sees him.....or did, maybe in the last 4-5 years.

Hoolihan the Weather Man.

Back in the days when the weather forecast was a bit of a comedy skit as much as a weather report. Wally Canan the weatherman.

Dick Goddard was one of the first meteorologists in the country to broadcast the weather....the first in Cleveland for sure.

Man, that's going back in time....maybe 62 or 63?

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

The Ghoul was definitely a generational thing.

Ghoulardi was on Cleveland TV from '63 to '66.

My older brothers talked about Ghoulardi (I was only 10 when Ghoulardi went off the air, it's likely I never actually saw Ghoulardi on TV)

The Ghoul was our iconoclast.

I don't remember the Ghoul, although I had heard of him, but I remember this guy, and of course Big Chuck and Little John

Ghoulardi and the Ghoul were way ahead of their time (especially Ghoulardi).

They were hilariously “dicey”. (risque - like a bit raunchy).

Ghoulardi was merciless making fun of, for instance - Cleveland newscaster Dorothy Fuldheim (the first female TV news broadcast anchor in the U.S.).

She hated Ghoulardi

And how about PARMA?

By comparison long-time Chicago Saturday night horror movie host Svengoolie is completely tame.

But hey, he's still alive and still on Saturday nights (I think).

Never saw Ghoulardi, but the Ghoul was great.

Parma spelled backwards is AAAAAAMMMMMMRRRAAAAAAPPP! Cue "Buzzsaw".

Hoolihan, BiG Chuck, and Little John were funny. Soulman, the Colebassy Kid. Lotsa good stuff.

Just a typical late night movie show. Mostly old 'horror'. I swear he and his buddies were getting high all night.

The Ghoul was also huge in Detroit...the show was syndicated. I watched his show religiously until Saturday Night Live sucked the life out of the rest of those late night weekend shows.

I remember thinking how great it was at the age of 8 or 9 to be able to stay up late on Friday nights to watch Ghoulardi and whatever creature-feature they were showing that week. It was my introduction to 50's "horror" drive-in movies like "The Attack Of The Crab Monsters", "Them!" (giant ants), "The Killer Shrews" (shrews the size of German Shepherds, which I think they used to film this), etc. It was my introduction to Jiffy Pop Popcorn (we had a great Mom). It was being allowed to bring your pillow and blanket down to the living room and lay down in front of the 25" RCA console, and know there was no school tomorrow. It was good times.

Here's a pretty good write-up of Ghoulardi in Wiki. I don't know who wrote it, but they did a good job.

The opening of the show was kind of cool. They used Sugarloaf's Green Eyed Lady for the theme as the doctor is driving his 3 wheel Morgan up to the old house they used for the show.

Funny, how some of the littlest things brought the best memories eh?

Saturday morning cartoons, when I was 7 or 8, I would wake up, get dressed and go 2 doors down to my friends house. We would sit and watch League of Justice and a couple others, his mom would make us breakfast and we'd eat on the tray tables watching the shows.

Then we head out for the day to play in the woods, the park, wander down to the soda and candy store that our friend's parents owned.

We didn't have internet and cable TV, but damn we were never bored.

I remember an afternoon game they had on when they actually catered to kids in the late afternoon on weekday TV.

They had this stupid TV game where kids would call in, and whoever was the right caller would get to play the game on TV.

It was, IIRC, a version of Asteroids, and the kid on the phone would yell out "Pow!" to shoot in the game. It was so dumb, but it was high tech for its day. lol
