So four primetime games with a potential for two more flexed games.

Having the Patriots after the bye week is nice.

I said this on another thread........I prefer the days when rumors and make-believe stories were not permitted on this board.

I am not blaming Purp or the refs for this. It's not their fault. But, I actually believed the first one that Dawgs4Life put out because he said something like "Here it is, boys..."

Really shocked to see us playing Pitt so close together (week 11 and then week 13). I've never seen that.

Then you have the Bengals pretty close together too (Week 14 and then week 17).

I haven't looked at other teams schedules, but seems like based on the Browns schedule, they want the end of the year to count the most (division games). Sounds good in theory, but that would suck if we have any injuries.

And I like who we open against. We'll have a good shot at winning and starting the season off right.

twitter is blowing up mad because the Browns will have 1 division game before Kareem Hunt comes back and we play 7 divisional games.

People are saying they gave us a soft schedule so that we can get some early mojo and build confidence etc.

the NFL has to take care of their darling OBJ and their future Tom Brady (Baker)

steelers and Browns playing 2 games 17 days apart etc etc

kinda nice that people are hating on us for once for being decent.

predictions are meaningless. You have no idea what is going to happen week to week in the nfl, I.e. injuries, suspensions, and a million other things. You can’t really judge a team u til about 4 or 5 weeks into the season anyway if you ask me. It takes that long for teams to get really rolling.

what is bizarre is we may well be favorites in all but two games.

If we cannot win 11 games, I will feel the season is a failure. If Baker gets injured, then things change.

Dec. 29: at Cincinnati, Win

Strength of schedule 23rd, .484

Breakdown
Odell Beckham Jr.'s first game with the Browns will be in Cleveland against Tennessee, a team the Browns should be favored to beat. But the most eye-opening reality of the 2019 schedule is that the NFL gave the Browns a December made for a playoff run. The Browns close against Cincinnati, at Arizona, Baltimore and at Cincinnati. Those three teams combined for 19 wins in 2018, and the Browns handled the Bengals in both games last season, winning both by a combined score of 61-38. If the Browns improve as the season goes on -- something good teams do -- and if they want to live up to the excitement generated by the arrival of Beckham and the development of Baker Mayfield, their success will come in how they close the season.

Challenging start

Though Tennessee is far from the most difficult opener -- the Titans were 9-7 last season -- the Browns do have a tough first few weeks. They play at New York on Monday night in Week 2 against a Jets team that has high hopes, return home for a short week to play the Rams’ powerful offense in Week 3, follow with the division champion Ravens and then travel for a Monday night game against Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers. A home game against Seattle and the trip to New England round out the first seven. Four of those first seven games are against 2018 playoff teams (including the Super Bowl champions), and two are against teams that figure to be much improved in 2019 (the Jets and 49ers).

Ready for prime time
The excitement over the Browns is reflected in the four prime-time games -- three in the first five weeks of the season. The Browns travel to play the Jets on Monday night in Week 2, face the Rams the following Sunday night in Week 3 and play at San Francisco on Monday night in Week 5. The final night game scheduled is Thursday against Pittsburgh on Nov. 14. If the Browns live up to expectations, they could be flexed into three more night games -- two late in the season (beginning Week 11) and the other in the finale, when any team’s game could be shifted. The Browns have not been on Sunday Night Football since Sept. 14, 2008. The last time they were on Monday Night Football was the infamous “kick-six” game Nov. 30, 2015, when the Browns saw a winning field goal attempt blocked by Baltimore and returned for a touchdown on the final play.

Only one division game in the first 9 weeks.

Noteworthy.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Hopefully the AFC championship game will be in Cleveland.

But I'd be ok if we had to go to KC.

Some notes about the schedule from what I've gathered and thought about since last night:

- NFL wanted us early and often in the limelight early on ... strike while the iron is hot, and if we go up in flames? At least there's no late primetime games. BUT, if we play well I'd expect the Baltimore home game in week 16 to be a SNF game

- NFL did us a favor with a mid bye week ... usually don't get those

- NFL did us a favor with a backloaded home schedule ... usually reserved for "good" teams if you've paid attention in years past

- Obviously the first half is the tough stretch ... lots of pressure early, but if we can stay at .500 or a bit above by week 12? Watch out

- Kareem Hunt will be available for 5 of 6 division games ... Huge favor from the NFL

- Like clockwork, the Cowboys, Pats, Packers, Steelers, etc get 5-6 primetime games no matter what

- Wonder why the NFL decided to put Buffalo on Thanksgiving instead of Miami as was reported (by the NFL haha)

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Huh...looks like most, if not all, of those news tweets yesterday about the Browns' (and others team's) schedule were correct.

j/c:

Does Hunt have to miss 8 Brown's games or is he suspended for the first 8 weeks of the NFL season?

Regarding the schedule, it appears to be a favorable schedule w/a caveat or two.

The beginning of the year is the hardest part of the schedule. That's a bit of a concern considering our HC has zero experience in that position and wasn't even a coordinator until the second half of this past season. I think our overall coaching staff isn't the most experienced.

Factor that in w/the fact that we have a lot of new pieces that we need to acclimate w/those who were already here. Additionally, while many on here have already proclaimed that our qb is great, I think that is far from a given. We've seen qbs in the past who have started off great and then fizzled out. Given Baker's approach to the off-season, I can't automatically say he is going to be great. I think he will be good, I just can't say it is a given.

With all of that said, we should be a good team this year. I do hope we get off to a decent start because some of the factors that I mentioned earlier might become an issue if this team does not meet the high expectations placed upon it.

I think your concerns are legit. But I also think we all still have in the back of our minds what we've been through. Yeah, we have a lot of reasons for optimism, but we've been burned by that before. I know it's hard for me to get over.

That being said, I truly do feel like this is different. The team has been put together so much more professionally. The moves we've made have made sense. Will they all work out? No. Nothing ever works out 100%.

Could a key injury or two derail us? Yeah. But that's every NFL team.

This year, I don't see us getting off track simply because our "talent" is really just a smokescreen and the foundation is crumbling.

That all being said, it will be fun when we lose our first game how quickly some fans will be saying how Baker is a bust, Beckham is a bust, Kitchens should be run out of the league, etc.

I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I think our talent is legit, too. We're freaking loaded and I expect us to have a very good season.

I have just thought that getting off to a good start is important for this team due the inexperience of the coaching staff and several key players as well as us having quite a few new moving pieces.

The first seven games could be tough. We must win at least 3-4 of those games or things could get dicey. Beating the Titans in week one is almost imperative.

We will be in a great spot if we are able to go 4 and 3 or especially 5 and 2 in the first seven.
