He's a bit on the moderate centrist side and I think that is rooted in his religion. He claims he is a progressive but I would need to see more of that. I think he's pragmatic but burdened by boundaries the right established and many think can't be crossed, which is BS. The left needs to move the country left, Period. Where the right is now can not be allowed to become a norm or we're headed for a fascist dictatorship.

I said in spite of his sexual orientation because that has nothing to do with anything. I am talking STRICTLY based on his performance as MAYOR and nothing else.

They must live on the West Side then where the only improvement he made was to redo the sidewalks of sample street going there the area of town where it's the most violent part of town. Then again he did want to make SB a sanctuary city so there is that.

Perhaps your trying to give him credit for the improvements that Notre Dame did to its OWN properties. The City of South Bend had zero to do with that other than to be told to stay the heck out of the way. My Mayor had zero to do with it.

Now shall we talk about the condition of the roads? South Bend since this mayor took over has created THE WORST roads in the county. BY FAR. There are 6 inch deep pot holes that have been in some neighborhoods for over 4 years now. It has cost me over a thousand dollars in repairs. Try going over the railroad tracks without destroying your car. Yes business is booming for car mechanics that is for sure.

You talk about downtown? Yes, he finally let them tear down an old building so his buddy could build an apartment building. No kickbacks from that AT ALL. Meanwhile I know MANY people who flat out refuse to go downtown at all anymore. Why? Because this ignorant and incompetent mayor decides that it's in everyone's best interest to make a 5 minute drive turn into a 15 to 20 minute nightmare. It's a royal pain to go anywhere down there now. My brother works for the city and we live within walking distance of downtown. He won't let me drive him to work because it takes longer to drive there than to walk there almost.

He hasn't done anything to improve south bend at all. In fact he has many folks wanting to flat out move away. There is such a clear line where south bend roads turn into roads taken care of by the other cities. It's so clear as day because suddenly you see roads that are actually maintained. He is by far the worst mayor this town has seen in ages. Even my father who is a hardcore liberal democrat can't stand how much he has ruined the town.

None of those critiques are based on his religious views or his sexual preferences. So keep your KKK nonsense to yourself. I am not racist and never have been. I also don't hate people who are not Christian or don't share my values. I just have my own views and stick to them without being intimidated by PC nonsense.

Far as the man personally he is nice enough but while he is a good public speaker he is a bit stiff as a person. I don't know him as a person very well myself. My brother though knows him quite well and no I won't say what his job is because that might lead to trouble due to politics and stuff.

My brother knows him far better than I do but he can't stand working with him for too long because he is a bit uppity and full of himself according to my brother. According to my brother, I have not worked with him myself but my brother is an extremely honest person, but the Mayor is the type who likes to walk around and stir the pot so he can say he did something even when he doesn't know what is going on. Other than that he is pretty harmless and doesn't aggravate people too much.

I can just say that for me personally South Bend has gotten much worse since he became mayor when I look at the quality of life for most people and not just a few select neighborhoods that perk his political interest.

I know nothing about this candidate.

I feel this country can elect a gay person as long as they dont make their candidacy about their sexuality. Because that is inappropriate and will turn people off. Above all, be a professional and have a vision for the country. Keep your sexuality to yourself, nobody wants to hear about that.

I know you have a different direction that that politically. Progressive is just a polite word for extremist. We all want progress in some form. Mine just happens to be a little more measured and not as extreme.

I guess that depends on your point of view. There were candidates running for the Republican nomination in 2016 I would have voted for. I do think that decent people try to get nominated, but rarely win the nomination.

But choosing the guy who is calling all of his opponents names, even those within his party, telling lies consistently and generally just wreaking havoc and hate certainly isn't the answer. Picking the worst of the bunch isn't the answer.

I know and am friends with a lot of Republicans. Most of those I am friends with are pretty logical and level headed people. We don't agree on everything but our views are much closer than the Trumpians.

That's why I don't view actual Republicans as being true Trumpians. Being as optimistic as I can about the situation, I believe there were so many "Real Republicans" running in 2016 that the votes were split among them so much that the extremist demagogue pulled off a coup of the Republican party.

If you go back and look at how the coverage, candidates, and debates were in the 70's and 80's. Why can't it be like that?
