Another reach. Projected 6th . Starting to question these picks *cough* 4th round *cough* I know we all want quality players. But I hope no one is really getting too upset or questioning Dorsey too much with our late round picks. If we walk away from this draft with 3 eventual starters (OBJ, Greedy, Takitaki), I think we'd all be pretty happy. Not to start a fight, but I am starting to question Dorsey to a degree. Tyreek Hill is a smear on him. Hunt is a big question mark. Now we are starting to draft and sign our own troubled players. We'll see. I am glad John is here, but I have to wonder why the guy was canned at KC. Has that ever been discussed?

Maybe he should only draft players from the Ivy League, then.

I surmised that you would prefer he draft "squeaky" clean players with no off-field concerns. Ivy Leaguers would be a good example of that.

I am glad John is here, but I have to wonder why the guy was canned at KC. Has that ever been discussed? Here's a good article about it in SI. I always thought it was because he didn't get along with Reid, but this says otherwise. https://www.si.com/mmqb/2017/06/29/kansas-city-chiefs-john-dorsey-fired-nfl-notebook By ALBERT BREER June 29, 2017 The dismissal of Chiefs general manager John Dorsey was met, almost universally, with shock. Scouts and coaches who knew him in other NFL cities were actively trying to figure out what happened. Some with jobs in Kansas City were scrambling to put the pieces together. It wasn’t just the bizarre timing, either. This sort of thing normally doesn’t happen to a respected, well-liked football man like Dorsey. And it’s a credit to the Chiefs and Dorsey that no one saw it coming, like everyone did in similarly ill-timed plug-pullings in Washington and Buffalo earlier this year. A text that came across from a rival scouting director said it best: “What’s the real story?” We’re about to get to that. Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images But let’s start with the Chiefs. Though most people in that organization seem to maintain genuine affection for Dorsey, issues simmered there for almost two years. They began to boil over following the departure of director of football operations Chris Ballard in January, and came to a head at a most unusual juncture in the NFL calendar—the deadest time of the football year. Back in February, with the five-year deals of Dorsey and coach Andy Reid set to expire after the 2017 season, Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt told the Kansas City Star: “I would expect to sit down with them over the course of the next year and talk about an extension.” The Reid talks happened, and a deal was struck to keep him in Kansas City through the 2021 season. The Dorsey talks didn’t. So there are two questions to answer: 1) What changed? 2) How did Hunt see what few on the outside could, and what few on the inside thought would never reach the ownership level? The truth is, some of this traces back to a shift in the organizational model in 2013. Scott Pioli was the only person on the football side reporting to Hunt from 2009-12, and Hunt changed that, in part, because he wanted more oversight. So Reid, Dorsey and president Mark Donovan would all report to Hunt, as Hunt was determined not to let problems fester as they had with Pioli and ex-coach Todd Haley. In practice, that meant Hunt had a better view of the internal issues than many realized, particularly since Reid and Dorsey set up their football operation in the old Eagle model, with coaching and scouting somewhat sovereign to one another. Given the power each then wielded, the stock criticism of Dorsey—that while he’s incredibly respected as an evaluator, he’s more scout than manager—was validated with a level of disorganization that was noticeable before the hyper-organized Ballard departed, and obvious after he left for Indy. As one source explained it, “It wasn’t dysfunction so much as it was decisions were being made that seemed to come out of nowhere. So that existed, but the people here weren’t aware that ownership was aware of it. … You look back now, how it worked out, and ownership was more aware that it didn’t need to be run that way.” There were also a few flash points to prove it out over the past 18 months: • The selection of Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan in the fifth round of the 2016 draft. That move stunned scouts and coaches, based on the evaluation and meetings leading up to the draft. Hogan didn’t wind up making the team four months later, and started last season on the Browns’ practice squad. • The four-year, $48 million extension with left tackle Eric Fisher in August 2016. At the time of signing, Fisher had failed to entrench himself at the left tackle spot he was drafted to play. In fact, Fisher lost the job to Donald Stephenson during the 2015 season, and Fisher was flipped to the right side. The Chiefs still did the big contract, despite having a year left on Fisher’s rookie deal, and an option year after that. • The five-year, $41.25 million deal for guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif in February. This deal came, like Fisher’s, in Duvernay-Tardif’s first offseason eligible for a second contract. Meanwhile, the Justin Houston and Eric Berry contract talks simmered—cap guru Trip MacCracken was let go last month—and the team has spent the past couple years perilously close to the salary cap. Others in the building saw signs of decisions becoming less collaborative, and more centered on Dorsey’s instincts. It also didn’t go unnoticed that Dorsey’s draft picks, like Fisher and Duvernay-Tardif, were the ones getting paid early. And the way the Jeremy Maclin release was handled—key members of the staff didn’t know until after it became public—didn’t help squash the internal whispering. This isn’t to say there weren’t decisions that were made with a roaring consensus from the team’s football operation. One such call was the one to pursue Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the draft. The Chiefs moved aggressively to make it happen. But too often, there were big moves made where scouts and coaches were left scratching their heads. It still bothers some close to Dorsey that Hunt caught wind of it, because there certainly weren’t many signs externally that the ax was about to drop. Some still maintain that it was right to keep these issues in-house, since they may have been fixable. The trouble with that, of course, was the Chiefs were going to have to sign up for another half-decade with Dorsey. And in the end, that’s something that Hunt wasn’t going to do.
And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul. - John Muir

I didn't know who this guy was, but after doing some looking, I like what I see.
Is it just me, or does he favor Denzel Ward, but with dreads.

Long story short...........power struggle between Andy Reid and Dorsey. That's nothing new for Reid. Same crap happened in Philly and he is a disciple of Holmgrn, who was the King of that crap.
Reid won. Dorsey lost. Browns won.

Yep, there's one in every crowd - but he did not embrace being an Ivy Leaguer.
Bryant told the Los Angeles Times: "The Ivy League's not really my type of environment. I had some really good teammates and friends, but outside of the football world I didn't interact much with the other kids."

I've had "dad jokes" stuck in my head revolving around every time he makes a play, it will come off as a PSA for the dangers of alcohol abuse.
"Rothlisberger gets taken down by Redwine."
"Mixon slipped and Redwine made him pay."

I don't like this pick. Miami players are a personal foul waiting to happen.
I think the Steelers got a much better pick with Snell (Son of Matt Snell) in the 4th at 122.

Redwine has the physical potential to turn into a good player for us. He should be an improvement on special teams while he tries to work his way to there.

I think he is a useful pick. Hopefully he'll become a quality starter at SS. He looks like he has the toughs.

NFL Draft: Safety Sheldrick Redwine brings versatility, eagerness to hit he learned growing up in Miami https://www.brownszone.com/2019/04/28/nf...ng-up-in-miami/BEREA — Sheldrick Redwine is more like a shot of whiskey. He packs a wallop. Redwine, the Browns’ fourth-round pick at No. 119 Saturday, made the switch from cornerback to free safety in 2017 at the University of Miami. The Browns believe he has the versatility to play free and strong safety, and his eagerness to hit is valued in a strong safety playing near the line of scrimmage. “Will not turn down a chance to hit,” NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote in his scouting report. “Forceful striker as a tackler and to dislodge the throw.” “You are looking for dogs. You are looking for alphas on defense,” director of college scouting Steve Malin said Saturday. “Obviously you can see what we are trying to do is we are trying to build a championship team. All of us have come from winning organizations. We understand what it takes, and it takes a special person to get you over the hump.” Redwine (6-foot, 196 pounds) confirmed the scouting report that he loves to hit, saying he developed the mentality at Richmond Park in Miami, where he grew up. “Oh, yeah, definitely,” Redwine said on a conference call. “Since I was a young boy, the parks that I played on, that is how we were brought up. You had to know how to hit. You had to know how to be tough or you were not going to make it. That is really how I adjusted to it.” Redwine can run, too. He clocked 4.44 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine and had a vertical jump of 39 inches. The athleticism turned into production, with 64 tackles, three interceptions and three sacks in 13 starts as a senior. Free safety Damarious Randall and strong safety Morgan Burnett are the starters for the Browns, with Eric Murray able to back up at both spots after being acquired in a trade with Kansas City. Redwine enters the mix and could be a future replacement for Burnett, who’s 30 years old. “I feel comfortable anywhere, but definitely in the box, you have to be aggressive down there in the box with those big bodies and stuff,” Redwine said. His history as a cornerback excites the Browns, because he can be used in coverage, maybe even as a big nickelback. “The game is a coverage game,” Malin said. “You have to have physicality, but you also have to be able to have guys that can cover. We feel like he gives us the flexibility to do that stuff. He has a physical presence but also he has good ball skills and can play in coverage for us.” Scout Matt Donahoe, who tracked Redwine at Miami, expects his speed to translate into strong special teams play. The late transition to safety is also encouraging. “He has upside because I think he is only just getting comfortable playing safety. There is a lot of upside with that,” Donahoe said. Redwine didn’t have far to go to get to the Miami campus in Coral Gables, and that’s exactly what he wanted. “Staying home,” he said of why he picked the school. “I always grew up a Miami fan. I got offered late in the process. When I got the opportunity late in the process, I just took it and ran with it. “The U was always the first choice, even when I didn’t have an offer from them.” Redwine should have little trouble fitting in in Cleveland. He’s the sixth former Miami player on the roster, joining tight end David Njoku, running back Duke Johnson, defensive ends Olivier Vernon and Chad Thomas and linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong. “I have a good relationship with those guys,” Redwine said. Vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith is also a Hurricane, and Redwine said they made a good connection during the scouting process. He was one of three defensive backs picked by the Browns, joining LSU cornerback Greedy Williams in the second round and Tulane cornerback Donnie Lewis Jr. in the seventh. Redwine said a cousin, John Battle, played with Williams. “John always told me that Greedy was a great player, a feisty cover corner,” he said. “Having somebody like that coming in with me, another DB, we will make this transition smooth.”

This is an early take for me, but I think Redwine actually ends up starter at SS by week 4. Burnett gets cut, and Dorsey gives a UDFA a shot, ie Joshua Allen (Miami - OH).
