). Understanding why individuals are sent to prison or probation and for how long is a topic of interest that can not only help us understand the outcomes of CSA sentencing but also help dispel one of the myths of CSA.

I remember the story of a black kid, an athlete sleeping with a girlfriend 2 years younger and getting 10 years. Then you see a story like this and the nugget BpG dug up and you wonder WTH?

The older I get the more I dislike people in general. I think the world is getting more and more screwed up and people are getting worse and worse. Probably because we just never heard of all these things 30 years ago, at least not on a regular basis. But I'm sure these things happened then too.

I'm guessing this was a nonviolent statutory rape where the girl was a willing participant but under the age of consent. If that's not the case I don't see how this guy stays out of prison. And the judge saying he only raped one and not multiple for his reasoning is just as sick as the rape itself if you ask me.

Getting little kids drunk so you can have sex with them should be an automatic bullet to the head. The fact that some people justify letting trash like that walk the streets is just one reason people deserve more of it.

What if this guy was your next door neighbor? Is it still a joke when he waves hi to your 14 year olds?

I mean wth is the dad supposed to do? Tell the judge thanks for letting him get my 14 year old drunk and then raping her? Glad to know he gets no punishment for destroying her childhood.

Now don't worry I got two bullets. One for the judge and one for the rapist the judge let free to terrorize more kids.

A New York man was sentenced to 10 years probation but no prison time after pleading guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl he met while driving a school bus. The judge in the case defended his controversial ruling by pointing out that Piche had only raped one girl, rather than multiple.

Shane Piche reportedly met the victim through his job as a school bus driver in Watertown City School District in upstate New York last year. Piche, who is either 25 or 26 years old according to conflictingreports, raped the 14-year-old student at his home in June 2018 and was later arrested in September.

Piche was initially charged with second-degree rape, first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child and endangering the welfare of a child by providing alcohol to the victim before the assault, according to Watertown Daily Times. The victim’s mother told local news station WWNY in February that Piche “bought her daughter gifts and invited her and other minors to his home where he gave them alcohol.”


Piche, who is no longer employed by the Watertown City school district, pled guilty to the lesser charge of third-degree rape in February. He was expected to be designated a Level 2 sex offender, which according to the state means there is a “medium risk of re-offense.” As a Level 2 offender, Piche’s address would have been available to the public.

Last week, Piche was sentenced to 10 years probation and designated a Level 1 sex offender by Judge James P. McClusky. Level 1 sex offenders are the lowest risk designation on the registry, and their addresses are not available to the public.

McClusky justified the ruling by saying that Piche had no prior arrests and there was only one victim in the case, according to the Watertown Daily Times. Piche will have to pay fines including $375 in court fees and $1,000 in sex offender registration fees. He is also not allowed to be alone with anyone under 17 years old.

“I wish Shane Piche would have received time in jail for the harm he caused to my child,” the victim’s mother said in an impact statement, according to WWNY. “He took something from my daughter she will never get back and has caused her to struggle with depression and anxiety.”

Piche’s defense attorney Eric Swartz told the New York Daily News that his client will be a felon “for the rest of his life,” adding, “He’s on the sex offender registry for a long time. Maybe not the rest of his life because of the level but this isn’t something that didn’t cause him pain and this isn’t something that didn’t have consequences.”

A petition to recall McClusky had nearly 4,000 signatures as of Tuesday morning.

“This judge has NO problem letting rapists go when a young girl’s life has been forever changed and will cause her emotional problems for many years to come at a cost of thousands of dollars for therapy,” the petition reads. “Where’s her justice?”

People were up in arms about the controversial ruling, with many pointing to racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

Why did you copy the whole article to ask a simple question?

It could have been worse. She could have turned up pregnant and been forced to carry the baby to full term birth by law if the GOP sheep had their way.

Or the girl could have had years of being abused at home by her father so that having sex was what she thought was the only way to show appreciation to one of the few people who was nice to her. She could have been the "aggressor" while he was in the bag.

That doesn't excuse him for providing the alcohol and being in that position in the first place, but their are some messed up people in the world. Intent matters, and it can be hard to get the full picture from an article with only some of the facts.

He could totally be a scumbag and deserve the worst. How can you tell without all the facts?

There are plenty of things to be angry about here. How about a society that promotes sex and alcohol? A society that allows hormones and other additives to be added to food which causes girls to "mature" younger? Parents that don't know their 14 year old is regularly going to an adult's house to drink?

That doesn't mean I'm not angry at the guy, too. I am. I just have plenty to go around, and I'm not entirely sure how much to focus on him.
