Not a fan of this protest and the lengthy replay.
The protesting jockey/trainer was not affected. I don't think they should disqualify the winning horse.

That's some BS. That horse was not even affected. Two other horses may have been, but the winning horse was not. And he got blown away down the stretch.
Lame.

dont know the rule at all, so I can't comment on the ruling
But I do hate to see people win/lose like that
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Boston is far to the left as KC settles into the slot. Fannin is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Sampson are split in the backfield as the ball is hiked ... Here we go."

I suppose you have to call someone the winner and Country House did place second. He wasn’t the horse impeded, but dq’ing the winner has to drop to #2, regardless if he was involved in the foul or not.

The thing is that Country Horse's handlers are the ones who filed the protest.
Oh well........just another reason to not watch next year. I should have known better than to watch this year.

They did, but it makes sense, since they were the group that stood to gain the most by a reversal and Maximum Security did foul a couple of horses.

He wasn't the horse that was directly cut off, but it still caused a chain-reaction which caused that whole group of horses to swing out wide. Country House started in about the 4th lane out when they were in the turn, and when MS started to veer out, CH wound up about 7 lanes off the rail. I really doubt CH would of caught him and won the race had everyone stayed in their lanes, but a rule is a rule.

A clear foul. Cutting across crowded lanes like that puts jock and horse in peril. A few horses and jocks could have gone down. Being a jockey on the ground in front of another 8 horses charging at you isn't a good place to be....a clear DQ.

Clearly the leader drifted off the rail and by doing so, broke the stride of a horse that was surging.
Just as we saw a good view from the video posted here, I can understand that jockies on horses not affected had a better view of what happened and how certain horses were affected.
Not sure how much of that kind of behavior goes on...unintentional/intention blocking... or if it's goes on and is just not called at less prestigious events...
Whether intentional or not, the horse in the lead came away from the rail and broke the stride of a horse that was surging to challenge for the lead.

Exactly.
A foul is a foul is a foul. Always. The import of the situation (or the teams/individuals involved) should never matter. I'm looking at you referees of certain sports that shall remain nameless for now. If this happened in a maiden claiming race with horses running for a $5,000 tag at Finger Lakes on a Tuesday afternoon, no one would have even batted an eye. The horse would have been DQ'd and it would have taken all of about two minutes to do so.
Maximum Security was much the best horse. Unfortunately, he fouled multiple horses coming to the top of the stretch. The stewards did what the rules called for. It's unfortunate for the horse's connections, but guess what, Maximum Security will never know that he was DQ'd. I'm guessing that he's full of himself this morning. He knows that he did his job and won.
It sucks that it came down to a DQ, but I'm glad that they made the call that they did. I'd hate to have another sport that I used to enjoy taken away from me because of "questionable" officiating. I stopped watching the NBA during Lebron's first tour with the Cavs. This past year was the first time that I actually watched an NFL game in a very, very long time. (The lure of Baker was too great.) Though, I'll probably continue to only watch a handful of Browns games. I saw that the officiating was still god awful in my limited views this year.

IMO it's a foul, though I'm not sure how horse racing typically deals with it ... especially when compared to more egregious fouls

IMO it's a foul, though I'm not sure how horse racing typically deals with it ... especially when compared to more egregious fouls Horses and Jockey's get DQ'ed fairly often for that and they should because that is egregious as it gets. That is what breaks horses legs and can kill the jock. I don't know if the jock felt he had the room to go out wider or the horse just bolted right...some horses don't like running the rail. I don't think the jock did this on purpose...either bad judgement or the horse went wide. Jocks live in the same community. They know each other. At most tracks there is a inside city where jocks, groomers, etc. live most of the year. At Churchill Downs there are near 8,000 people living inside the track grounds. They have their own school for the children. I can't believe one would put others in danger pulling a stunt like that on purpose. I hope not.

I would guess the horse did that on his own. The jockey would know better. And horses are not cars. They have minds of their own and do what they want on occasion.

Maximum Security owner weighs options after disqualification. Graves, AP Sports Writer,Associated Press 9 hours ago LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Maximum Security co-owner Gary West criticized race stewards' disqualification of his horse's Kentucky Derby victory as "egregious" and said he was pondering his next step, including a possible appeal. "I think this is the most egregious disqualification in the history of horse racing, and not just because it's our horse," West told The Associated Press by phone Saturday night. Several hours earlier, Maximum Security appeared to back up his undefeated record with a 1¾-length victory in the slop over Country House in the Kentucky Derby. The victory was overturned 22 minutes later with a stunning decision by the stewards to disqualify the 9-2 second choice because of interference . President Donald Trump weighed in on Sunday, tweeting that the decision was "not a good one." He wrote: "Only in these days of political correctness could such an overturn occur. The best horse did NOT win the Kentucky Derby — not even close!" Runner-up Country House, a 65-1 long shot, was elevated to the winner's circle Saturday to the astonishment of Maximum Security's team, which insisted the horse did not cut off his competitors. West said his team is exploring options to appeal, starting with the stewards. The owner said stewards told him he can see a replay of the incident on Thursday. Kentucky Horse Racing Commission chief steward Barbara Borden said the riders of Long Range Toddy and Country House lodged objections against Maximum Security for interference. "We had a lengthy review of the race," Borden said. "We interviewed affected riders. We determined that (Maximum Security) drifted out and impacted the progress of War of Will, in turn interfering with the 18 and 21. Those horses were all affected by the interference." Maximum Security was dropped to 17th of 19 horses, placed behind all the horses it was determined that he bothered. Borden did not take questions and exited the news briefing to shouts from reporters about a lack of transparency. West said there wasn't much jockey Luis Saez could do to control Maximum Security on a sloppy track. "When you're leg weary, you're not going to run straight all the time," he said. "Horses don't either." Said Saez, "I never put anybody in danger." Trainer Jason Servis agreed with the jockey in the immediate aftermath and added, "He straightened him up right away and I didn't think it affects the outcome of the race." The stewards disagreed, culminating in the first Derby winner being disqualified because of interference. The last objection in the Derby was filed in 2001 by jockey John Velasquez, who claimed interference by winner Monarchos and jockey Jorge Chavez. Stewards did not sustain the objection. This time, they did. The controversial finish capped an eventful weekend at Churchill Downs in two of the sport's marquee races. Friday's Kentucky Oaks for fillies began with a scary spill at the start by Positive Spirit that dumped rider Manny Franco. Neither the horse nor rider was injured, and both walked off the track. Serengeti Empress won the race in her first start since pulling up early in March at Fair Grounds with external bleeding. The incidents come soon after the industry enacted a raft of medication and safety rules changes following the deaths of 23 horses over three months at California's Santa Anita. For Maximum Security, the disappointing reversal spoiled what appeared to be his statement performance after 4-0 start. The son of New Year's Day and Lil Indy by Anasheed was coming off a 3½-length victory in the Grade 1 Florida Derby on March 30 that established him as the Derby's only unbeaten horse. For a brief moment, Maximum Security and his team appeared to bask in victory before the long wait and the disqualification, which might not be the final step. "If we can't appeal to the stewards," West said, "our other options are the state racing commission. If those don't work, we might go to legal options. ... But we have not seen what they saw." https://www.yahoo.com/sports/maximum-sec...57623--spt.html I think the decision was BS. I respect the opinions of the racing experts who were calling the Derby over the guys on here. Country House actually came out the turn and gained ground on Max, but got blown away down the stretch. The appeal was a lame-ass desperate attempt to win a Derby to an undeserving horse. Max was the best horse in the race and the rule mongers can kiss off.

Not trying to get into a long argument, Eve.
I'm saying that while there was an infraction, the best horse won and then was DQed. The second place horse actually gained on him and then got dusted down the stretch.
I don't like when officials decide the outcome of anything. I get that the rule sticklers will disagree and say that rules are rules. Fine. I am not trying to change their opinion.
Similarly, my opinion won't change either, the best horse got robbed and the second place horse did not deserve the win. My opinion. Not asking anyone to agree, but I hope I can express it????

The best horse didnt get robbed. The best horse broke the rules that are in place for safety reasons. And that particular jockey has been suspended several times for infractions.
Oh well. Sucks for them. Dont break the rules next time. Or hire a better jockey.
Thats how sports go.

They should make it like a relay race in track then, everyone has a defined lane that they must stay in at all times. Really, they want a 90lb person to control where a 1000lb horse decides to go at all times?
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Whether it's the fault of the animal or the human, the foul still occurred. They are a team on the track and treated as one entity.

That horse was 3 lanes out of his own. That was absolutely interference, I think they got the call right.

That horse was 3 lanes out of his own. That was absolutely interference, I think they got the call right. No doubt. It isn't even a small debate....not even worthy. You might be able to block in NASCAR to a degree, but in horse racing, you run your lane, especially heading to home. Just run the race. Best horse wins. In this case, the best horse didn't win because the best horse clearly fouled putting others in danger.
