You do realize that Trump has merely continued the same trend line that Obama had. Right? I mean you can virtually draw a straight line through the Obama years and Trump admin numbers.

And you do realize that every time a positive job report like this came out under Obama the loony right tried to tell us that the reports weren't accurate and didn't reflect the jobless.... Funny the numbers are measured in EXACTLY the same way - but those voices are suddenly silent. smh.

When Obama was in office he presided over the weakest recovery in US history. He told us that Blue Collar jobs are not coming back. That slow recovery was going to be the norm.

In came Trump and there is no more slow recovery. There is a boom recovery and it is mainly blue collar.

Spin as you will but the truth is the truth.

The economy is doing well, yet trumps approval numbers has stayed relatively the same, or has gone down a bit.

What’s bad news for trump and the GOP is the majority of Americans can read charts, unlike trump supporters.

The majority knows that unemployment, including for black and Latinos, started lowering under Obama, and continued under trump.

The majority knows that the deficit was steadily lowering under Obama, and has risen under trump.

I didn’t make a big deal about the deficit/debt under Obama just like Im not saying much under trump. But it says a lot that the so called conservatives whined and whined and whined about both under Obama, and yet are now completely silent under trump, despite trump increasing spending, giving the wealthy tax cuts, and what has clearly shown that the tax cuts ARENT paying for itself.

Apparently he deficit/debt was only important when the black guy was in charge. Now that the MAGA hatters got their white savior back, it no longer matters. Hilarious, if not pathetic.

Oh, and by the way, Trump is going to raise the tariffs on China this Friday to 25%. Dow futures are down 500 tomorrow. Don’t know if this is the right move, but if the tariffs are imposed, the market isn’t going to be happy

Why are 50% of American families unable to cover an emergency of $400 or more if Trump's economic boom is so real? This economy IS great for the upper half or at least those in the upper economic class. For the bottom half, price increases eat up modest gains and the recovery is still slow.

You can spin that however you want, but the truth is the truth... something Trump knows nothing about.

Yeah bro ...love your spin.... cept raising taxes on the middle class and giving huge tax cuts and passing out corporate welfare to companies like Amazon, Carrier, General Motors and the 1%’ers isn’t helping the average Joe. Trickle down economics never works. This is the the same old GOPer BS.

WEAKEST RECOVERY? What th e hell are you talking about.

It was a recovery.. Something that wouldn't have been needed if Bush hadn't totally screwed everything up.

Look, I voted twice for Bush and I've regretted it every since... He left this country in a brutal mess

Obama led the charge to bring it back. It caused him to do things I'm sure he didn't think he'd have to do, but there it was, 2 months before his election, the market takes a dump and that set the stage for him to be elected.

Weakest recovery my butt...

You are a pretty smart guy, we have had a lot of intelligent conversations... I'm sure on some level you know how totally oversimplified this is... Bush just happened to be sitting in the chair when policies going back 20 years finally reached a boiling point and it all came tumbling down... Bush didn't do anything to prevent it but to state that he was responsible for the housing/banking meltdown is disingenuous at best.

One of the last things Obama said when leaving office is that Trumps promises to grow the economy at upwards of 4 percent a year was but a dream or a lie. He asked how Trump would pull this off, "by waving a magic wand?"

Then the door hit his arse on the way out.

Trump came in and got rid of all the red tape Obama had on business growth, the time it took to get approval to build, the taxes they had to pay, etc...

The rest quickly became history!
3.6 percent unemployment, lowest in 50 years.
Minority unemployment lowest in history.
Growth with a capital "G".

Profits have driven the Markets up, filling 401K plans, filling the coffers of Pension plans, placing money and jobs in the pockets of every class.

Soon we will have better Trade deals with Canada, Mexico, Europe, China, Japan and others!

What trade deal with China? Haven't you been watching the news?

And the new deal with Canada and Mexico? It's very close to the old deal but Trump wanted to put his name on it.

With the economy and unemployment numbers the way they are the Democrats don't stand any chance. Trump's approval rating is higher than Obama was at this exact time in both's 3rd year as president.

First of all I'd like to see a verified quote. Second - if Obama did say that growth of 4% was a dream - he was dead right. But never let facts get in the way of you parroting whatever propaganda you've read.

Trump Lies Again About 'China Paying Tariffs' To The U.S. Treasury

https://news.yahoo.com/trump-lies-china-paying-tariffs-to-usa-110500774.html

So trump doesn’t know how tariffs work.

Damn,, it's just so easy for you to say stuff like that and forget that Trumps Tax cut was for the wealthy and Corporations only and to forget how the 2.5 trillion added to the national debt..

I've heard this argument before,, tell me, if the policies went back 20 years, that means that it started with Reagan and Bush 41.

So the question is, what did Bush 43 do to correct those issues? Not a damn thing. That puts it on his shoulders.

Back when Obama was elected, I said then, I was sorry I voted for Bush because he lead us to the mess we were in. But you have a point, it started before him. So it's not that he led us to that mess, he just didn't do any thing to correct it. In fact, his actions added to the bust.

People tend to twist facts to fit their narrative. Tariffs are paid in different ways.

A history lesson for those wannabe economists on this board; the B/C lending for mortgages is what caused the crash aka subprime lending.

Who Pays Trumps Tariffs

WORLD NEWSMAY 5, 2019 / 8:00 PM / A DAY AGO
Explainer: Who pays Trump's tariffs - China and other exporters or U.S. customers?

CHICAGO (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday he would raise tariffs to 25 percent from 10 percent on $200 billion of Chinese goods.

The United States has levied tariffs on a total of $250 billion of Chinese imports, global steel and aluminum imports, and shipments of washing machines and solar panels since January 2018, when Trump’s administration levied its first trade tariffs.

Trump has referred to himself as a “Tariff Man” and says the duties he has imposed on a range of goods and metal imports are filling up state coffers.

Through mid-March, Washington netted $15.6 billion through tariffs imposed since February 2018, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Customs duties receipts in the first half of the current fiscal year, which began on Oct. 1, have shot up by 89 percent from a year ago to $34.7 billion, data from U.S. Treasury shows.

WHO IS PAYING THE TARIFFS?
Trump says China foots the bill for U.S. tariffs on imported Chinese good.

“For 10 months, China has been paying Tariffs to the USA” he wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

“We have billions of dollars coming into our Treasury — billions — from China. We never had 10 cents coming into our Treasury; now we have billions coming in,” he said on Jan. 24.

PAID AT CUSTOMS
A tariff is a tax on imports. The CBP typically requires importers to pay the duties within 10 days of their shipments clearing customs.

So the tariffs are paid to the U.S. government by importing companies. Most importers of Chinese-made goods are U.S. companies, or the U.S.-registered units of foreign companies that import goods from China.

Every item imported into the United States legally has a customs code. Importers are expected to check the tariffs and other taxes and duties due on the goods they bring in, calculate what they owe, and pay it.

The CBP reviews the payments. If it discovers an underpayment, U.S. customs will send the importer a fresh bill.

DO U.S. IMPORTERS PASS ON THE COSTS OF TARIFFS TO THEIR SUPPLIERS IN CHINA?

Some of them do, yes. So Chinese companies pay some of the cost. An importing company paying tariffs can manage the cost in several ways:

1. Pay the full cost and live with a lower profit margin.

2. Cut costs to offset higher tariffs.

3. Ask suppliers in China for a discount to help offset the higher tariffs.

4. Seek to source supplies from outside China. So some Chinese companies are losing business.

5. Pass the tariff costs on to customers by increasing retail prices.

Most importers could use a mix of those options to spread the cost between suppliers, themselves, and consumers or buyers.

Did you intend to post an article that supports the fact that "China" is not paying the tariffs and that Chinese companies are paying a small (very small) part of the cost?

'We're freaked': Trump startles US businesses with fresh tariff hike

https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/05/07/politics/china-tariff-hike-businesses/index.html?r=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F

Washington (CNN) — President Donald Trump's decision to escalate tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods on Friday is angering American businesses that say they were taken by surprise.
Importers received just five days' notice about the sudden rise in the tariff rate to 25% from 10%.
Phil Page, the CEO of Missouri-based Cap America, estimates that his company has more than $1 million worth of baseball hats already ordered that will now be hit with the higher tariff.
"It's very difficult to understand what the President is going to do by a business perspective. To spring it on us all at once like this is a very poor judgment on his part," Page said.

"I thought this thing was going to be worked out this week," he added.
The President himself told reporters on Friday that "the deal itself is going along pretty well" and a delegation of Chinese negotiators are scheduled to arrive in Washington this week.
But Trump reversed course on Sunday, threatening to raise the tariff rate. On Monday, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin confirmed the administration would be moving forward with the tariff escalation on Friday, saying that China reneged on previous agreements over the weekend.

Related Article: US trade officials say Trump's tariff threat is real
Trump imposed three rounds of tariffs last year. The third and biggest tranche on $200 billion of Chinese goods went into effect in September. But the President threatened to escalate the tariff rate to 25% from 10% on January 1 if progress wasn't made on a new trade deal -- and then pushed the deadline to March 1.
When the second date came and went, it appeared trade tensions were easing up and businesses adjusted to the new normal.
"I thought we were finally figuring out how to make this work, and now we have to start all over," said Tiffany Zarfas Williams, owner of the Luggage Shop of Lubbock in Texas.
About 84% of the luggage, backpacks and briefcases she sells were hit with tariffs. Earlier in the year, she would receive emails from vendors on a daily basis about price increases. Zarfas Williams raised her own prices accordingly, and adjusted the assortment of items on the floor.
But by Monday afternoon, she had already received a new email from one of her biggest vendors reminding her that a higher tariff would result in a higher price.
Sales of the higher-end items at Luggage Shop of Lubbock have already taken a hit and adding another 15% to the price would be "a whole new ballgame," she said.
Trump's top trade negotiators on Monday brushed off criticism that US businesses and executives were not given sufficient notice ahead of plans to escalate tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods.
"The fact is that we've been in a position where that very well could happen," Lighthizer told reporters at a briefing. He also opened the door to possible exemptions but did not offer any further details.
The message was echoed by Mnuchin.
"It's obviously been a big time commitment, so I would just emphasize that nothing that's been done has been on short notice," he said. "Although certain expectations may have changed over the last week from the other side."

Related Article: The US-China trade war: How we got here and why it matters
Trump has repeatedly claimed that China pays the tariffs. While some Chinese companies may choose to eat some of the cost in order to remain competitive in the US market, several recent research papers show that American consumers and producers take on most of the burden.
The business community generally agrees that the United States should take a tougher stance on trade with China to address what it sees as unfair trade practices, like intellectual property theft and forced technology transfers. But they don't all agree that tariffs are the best way to bring Beijing to the negotiating table.
"I definitely want China to be held accountable, but I don't know why we are punishing consumers in our own country. That's the part that's hard to understand as a small business owner in Texas," Zarfas Williams said.
About 75% of good-producing firms recently surveyed by the National Association for Business Economics said the tariffs have had a negative impact on their business.
Trump administration officials said Monday that the administration would also move forward with a process to impose new tariffs on additional Chinese goods. Trump had floated the idea over the weekend to slap duties on another $325 billion of imports, which would result in a tax on most -- if not all -- Chinese goods coming into the United States.
The administration strategically put the earlier tariffs on imports mostly used in the production of other items, like semiconductors or refrigerators. That means the next round could tax more items that are directly sold to consumers
New tariffs would hit the core of clothing and footwear imports, said Rick Helfenbein, president and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association.
"That's why we're freaked," he said.

A significant portion of hats, luggage, clothing and shoes sold in the United States come from China, leaving importers with little choice to source items from elsewhere in the short-term. Other countries don't have the capacity to take on more production immediately.
"This confirms our worst fears. There are those of us who are optimists and thought it would go away and those who say it could come back at any time -- and this points to the latter," Helfenbein said.

nope, my intentions are that tariffs are paid in different ways. But alas, some of you business genius and economic gurus can't comprehend the opportunity at hand here but I digress...

I haven't seen those comments you refer to. I have seen Trump claim China is paying the tariffs and you correctly provided a summary that shows that tariffs are paid a few different ways. Including passing the cost on to the consumers. Overall "China" doesn't pay a bean - and Chinese companies pay the least.

Of course he doesn’t own them. If he had they’d be bankrupt like his other businesses he’s actually owned.
None the less. His name is on the ties made in China. He’s not changed to an American manufacturer. His daughter’s garbage clothing is also imported from China. Wonder how she feels about daddy now?

Do I really need to explain the ridiculousness of your statement?

If he’s just having a ‘trump’ tag slapped on a tie why not have a trump tag slapped on an American tie? It’s just branding right?

Valid point, I refute it in this way; Trump collected rent from the Empire State Building which he does not own, how'd he do it?

Business is about bottom dollar 1st and foremost. Allegiance to American made products, unfortunately, is not a deciding factor. Who pays me the most is. I'm former military and a proud patriot. I do everything in my power to buy American but in some cases I do not have a choice.

I just listened to Charles Payne on Fox (top of my list of business advisors) make a statement that I wholeheartedly agree with and is basically the point I'm trying to make. He said (paraphrasing) these businesses that are complaining about the tariffs need to put skin in the game. We are in a fight and its a fight about fairness so put some skin in the game or shut up!

Great job as always Charles!

Lol god daytna is trying so hard. It’s cute.
