I wish I could catch them on camera, but I have a pair of Cardinals and a pair of Blue Jays that live somewhere in the trees around my yard. They come swooping through my yard almost every time I am outside, and they are so beautiful. It's amazing how the males are so much more ornate than the females.

Thanks. The warbler migration is full throttle right now. Here's a nemesis of mine, the common yellowthroat. They flit around in the dark understory, rarely sitting still in an open area to get a shot. The lighting is also poor when these guys are most active.

They are all great, but that owl shot.... Thanks!... but taking pics would never be as fulfilling to me as my profession. I was very fortunate to catch that owlet awake and curious.

I think those are beautiful pictures, absolutely stunning. I'm not gonna bother posting a photo of my budgie in his cage lol.

If you ever get a chance to head to the marshes and refuges along the western basin in the middle of May, do so. It's probably a nice day or weekend trip from the Cleveland area. The birds are up close and personal....they fly north from central and south America and run into Lake Erie, then they abruptly stop in the marshes and woodlots along the lakeshore to build up their reserves to cross the lake. There are trails and boardwalks through the prime habitat from which to observe and take pics. It's really a birder/photographer paradise during this time.

Here is a link to an awesome PBS video describing the bird migration through our area. Lots of great footage of migrating birds and the areas where I get my pics: https://www.pbs.org/video/flight-path-the-world-of-migratory-birds-jnnilu/

I did the thing, and I'm now a married man! My wife and I went to places in Ecuador (Quito and The Galapagos Islands) and did Inca things in Peru (Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu) for our honeymoon. Here's a taste of what's time come as I work on these in Lightroom. Quito, Ecuador.

Full We went to the Chinese Lantern Festival at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. I recommend going, but do expect some crowds. Stay the whole night so you can really see them lit up in all their glory.

Anyone have thoughts on mirrorless cameras? I primarily shoot sports, airplanes, other fast action. I'm still undecided if they can replace a DLSR yet.

Anyone have thoughts on mirrorless cameras? I primarily shoot sports, airplanes, other fast action. I'm still undecided if they can replace a DLSR yet. Mirrorless are slower focusing. They also have a shorter battery life because they're always in "live mode" and the smaller size warrants a smaller battery. Lens selection is also limited vs. DSLR's. They are lighter, smaller and the photo quality is superb...especially in the full frame models. Supposedly the gap is narrowing. For bird photography, I haven't seen too many mirrorless cameras being used in the field yet. I was curious to see what's out their for this migration season....we have a huge 10 day annual event here with thousands of people, including professional photographers, coming from around the world for the warbler migration. Unfortunately it's been cancelled. This is the most informative article I've found on the subject, and it's only a few months old. https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/features/dslr-vs-mirrorless-cameras-how-do-they-compare
