Lost in all this QB drama of the Cleveland Browns is the fact that Rip Scherer is not getting it done as a QB's coach. How many good to great QB's has he developed? I'm gonna guess none right now. Show me a bad QB and I'll show you a worse QB coach..... Any team that is successful on the football field, you can trace that to coaches that know how to coach and get the most out of their players....

It's not lost at all......but please tell us all exactly what drills Scherer runs in practice with our QBs.......
Let's just stop the crap right now and admit that you have no idea of what he does, how he does it, or how well he does it......because you aren't there.

None. Good guess.

But before that it boils down to something even more important.
It's called talent.......

Neither of our QB's have talent. Frye..scrambler but can't read blitzes and has a weak arm... DA...strong arm but inaccurate on intermediate to long passes..20 - 40 yards.. Can't read a freaking coverage if it actually held up signs saying "COVER 2"..or " CB will now show press coverage but will drop back into deeper zone"..
Dorsey had the brain(which is why i wanted him to stay) but not the arm..

DING DING DING...
I could make some analogies to what it would be like to teach Frye/Anderson how to play the QB position, but I would end up offending someone.
Frye and Anderson are un-coachable.

Assuming that to be true the question I have is why didn't the coaching staff realize this or if they did realize this then why trot out inferior talent ? I don't know but maybe some sharper football minds can answer that for me .?IMO they aren't uncoachable and maybe they are doing the best that they are capable.......that is a scary thought.

Rip Scherer
Asst. head coach/Quarterbacks; born Aug. 3, 1952. Quarterback William & Mary 1970-74. No pro playing experience. College coach: Penn State 1974-75, North Carolina State 1976, Hawaii 1977-78, Virginia 1979, Georgia Tech 1980-86, Alabama 1987, Arizona 1988-1990, James Madison 1991-94, Memphis 1995-2000, Kansas 2001, Southern Mississippi 2003-04. Pro coach: Joined Browns in 2005.
Is it a knee jerk reaction? This is Rip's brief bio.... which I have to admit, I had never read.... but what about this resume of 15 jobs, most of which he held for less than 3 years, would lead you to believe he has what it takes to develop an NFL quarterback? Maybe you feel like doing the research that I did not feel like doing, maybe you can match up the quarterbacks at the various schools during his tenure, because I have to admit, I'm not seeing where these schools are exactly QB factories.....
In fact, after reading, I'm guessing Brady Quinn will end up teaching this guy a few things he learned from Charlie Weiss and his staff.... I'm now more convinced than ever that letting Dorsey go was a mistake...

Remember the 2008 first round pick we traded for Brady Quinn? They did know this.

I think that's what he meant... not that they were "uncoachable"... just that they have are maxed out on their potential...

Yes, it's a knee jerk reaction,, just like Frye is totally to blame, the Oline is totally to blame, RAC is totally to blame, the Receivers are totallly to blame, Chud is totally to blame,,
All of them,, Every single one of them taken individually are Knee Jerk reactions,,,,,, The truth is,, Every single one of them share the blame. To blame anyone more than the other is just not looking at what really happened..
WE GOT WHOOPED,, AND WHOOPED GOOD! And that just doesn't happen because a QB coach doesn't have a sterling resume or because a QB has a horrific day..
It's because as a team,,, we sucked yesterday.. It's that simple!
But you don't have to take my word for it,,, because that's JMO!!

All I know is Frye and DA have both regressed under Rip. They didn't even stay the same, they've actually gotten worse under him.

I wish it was that simple... Charlie Frye is in his third year as an NFL QB (all under Rip) with a decent number of starts... now is about the time the light is supposed to start coming on... do you think Frye looks better than he did 3 years ago?

yeah, and in his third system,, (second if you wish) Come on DC,,, you can't believe that Rip is responsible for all that is wrong any more than you think that any ONE person is..
Anderson came in and didn't exactly set the world on fire...some good throws but more bad ones.
it may not be as simple as I made it sound, But geez, if you look around on this board, you will see about 20 different opinions about WHO is responsible.... it's rarely as simple as This One Guy... Rarely,,,,,

Daman, I don't think any one person is responsible for anything.. obviously CF came into a less than ideal situation and hasn't had much continuity since he got here... but accuracy and general decision making skills are pretty much the same regardless of the system and Frye's haven't improved....
But take CF out of the equation for a second, forget about CF.... You are a newly hired NFL head coach, coming to a team that has struggled, especially at the QB position... you have nothing but unproven commodities at that position... now you need to hire a QB coach.... look at Rips resume and tell me what it is that makes you think that he could do the job? He's held some level of assistant coach at mostly "B" grade college programs his whole career, most of his jobs lasting just 2 or 3 years. He never played QB above the level of William & Mary... Maybe there is something behind that little blurb that I'm seeing...
He must either be darn impressive in the interview or he has photos of Savage on an island with a young girl....
