That alone is reason enough to root on Cleveland. He's so insufferable.

Yeah, and Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Claussen wasn't a successful QB.

Spoiled boston sports writer is mad that cleveland has caught a few breaks Seeing the celtics not win anywhere close to 67 games, then get bounced in the second round would be amazing topped off by having the cavs win the lottery lmao By the way, I'm absolutely shocked at the Beilein news. Don't get me wrong, he's an excellent coach, one of the best in the business, but at age 66, and with no nba experience, and a roster that isn't very good, what's the plan? Lebron coming back? LOL

Zion was looking happy when LA and New York were still alive. Not so much after NO won the lottery.

lol so many people were complaining on twitter that its rigged, then the Pelicans end up with Zion, LOL I know it's tongue and cheek with you and a lot of other people, but there are people out there that really think this thing is rigged. Ernst& Young oversees this entire process, and it would absolutely murder their reputation if it came out that this thing were rigged, and they either let it happen, or were a culprit in the action. But hey, that's how sports fans are these days, whenever we don't get what we want? Rigged. I mean Golden State has won titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, and likely 2019. Yet, the one year they didn't win, it was rigged, because their 3rd best player missed one game in the middle of the series, after knowingly entering said game a technical foul away from a suspension. Not to mention they get away with 50 moving screens a game, and it's totally cool for them to kick guys in the balls. But yeah, 2016 was rigged. The absolute worst fans in sports.

NO might be one of the worst basketball markets in the country...so yeah figures they get the best pick and then wonder why zion leaves as soon as he can

Wonder if AD will change his mind and want to stay in NO now? Or they still trade AD to Boston/LA and then surround Zion with a whole new team. Doubtful, but if AD won’t extend, you can’t let him leave for nothing.

Yeah, I was just goofing around. I don't think the league/draft is rigged. If it were rigged, the Cavs would have played against the Lakers the year they lost to Orlando. No way the league let that happen if they were the puppet masters. I would rather the league get rid of the lottery because all we hear is crying that it's rigged, from every teams fans. I think it was Vers that suggested rewarding the teams that miss out on the playoffs. Finish dead last, you stay dead last. Reward the teams still trying to win. That's a drastic step but it would alter the league for the better. It's not perfect, because teams in the 8 seed might want to drop to out, but I don't really think that'll happen. Maybe do a mini-lottery with the top three teams that missed the playoffs, but show the way they are chosen. I don't know, I think teams will still tank next season, which is normal for all of the major professional sports.

Yep, discourage tanking. It's an eyesore to the integrity of the sport. I have no respect for any team that would tank.

AD will want to play with Zion and with Griffin in control, he'll reshape that team overnight. AD will resign quickly in my opinion. I only offered up an alternate possibility if AD is adamant on leaving. Other ideas, the Lakers could offer the 4th pick for AD (and a player) so the Pelicans could go draft 1 and 4 like we did with Irving and Thompson. Griffin wasn't the GM at the time, but he was our vice president. Also, we were stupid to let Griffin go.

I just don't understand how this would discourage tanking. Be the 8 seed or get the first pick? I think every NBA owner with a brain would rather have the first pick than get bumped from the first round.

I think every NBA owner with a brain would rather have the first pick than get bumped from the first round. Yeah, it's not perfect, but it rewards teams that are trying to win. They're spending money and giving something their fans can support. I could see the argument for the Cavs and Suns. The Cavs just lost Lebron and were way over the cap. They did extend Kevin and then he got hurt. Had he played all year, no way they're bottom three. They probably tried tanking near the end, but I don't think that was their plan before the season started. Same with the Suns, they put a young team together and were hoping to make some noise, but they are the team that's "two years away from being two years away". I don't know, maybe a shift in the lottery system would scare more GMs to build good teams and not let the other teams to build "super teams". It might spread out the talent again so an 8 seed could make a run at a 1 seed (as soon as the Warriors break up). And the league could always favor the teams in the playoffs by giving them a larger cap the following year. Meaning, get the #17 seed and the #1 overall pick, but get #16 and you make the playoffs AND have more cap space to sign talent. I'm no NBA genius, I think the flip would tell the NBA fans they reward winning, not tanking, even if it's a little unfair to the bottom, unlucky teams.

The Pelicans are sitting pretty (obviously). It seems like Anthony Davis is still going to want out. That means the Pelicans can pair Zion with the Lakers package of young players in addition to the fourth pick or the third pick and the Knicks young players or, if Kyrie stays, Tatum, Brown, and a bunch picks. They have the chance to rebuild in one year.
The Lakers also came out looking much better than before the lottery. They jumped seven spots and went from almost no chance at Davis to a great chance at Davis.

I think every NBA owner with a brain would rather have the first pick than get bumped from the first round. No system is going to be perfect, but it sure beats dumping players/salaries early on in the season and tanking for an entire season. The goal should be to try and make the league as competitive as possible. I know you won't agree and that's fine. I've given it some thought and I prefer they system I suggested a few months ago, even though I know it isn't perfect. It's just the best option in my opinion.

it'll be interesting to see how NO handles this (and how AD handles it) ... Holliday, Davis, and Zion would be a heck of a start to a rebuild
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Boston is far to the left as KC settles into the slot. Fannin is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Sampson are split in the backfield as the ball is hiked ... Here we go."

the problem is that it wouldn't actually make the NBA anymore competitive... It would just make teams attempt to get the 9 seed in the playoffs for a chance at trading the pick for more assets. This would mean that playoff teams start taking. If apply this concept to this year, you could clearly see it. Giving the Hornets or Kings Zion wouldn't make it so they can compete with the Bucks or Warriors. You also make it near impossible for bottom feeders like the Cavs to ever be good in the NBA, by taking away their only source of talent. That's because we wildly overestimate the impact of a top 3 pick, especially in their first three seasons. We'd like to think that they're all year 4 Kyrie or lebron, but in reality they're much more like Wiggins.
If we want to make the NBA more competitive, then hampering the development of future super stars is not the way to go. Instead the focus needs to be aimed at not allowing super teams to form inorganically by allowing teams to give out max contracts. If a team wants to give 80% of their cap space to a Durant, LBJ, AD or Kyrie, they should be allowed to.
