I am one who is from the school of thinking that a veteran QB is a must for any NFL team... The Browns organization doesn't subscribe to this philosophy... I don't understand why... Especially when the Browns don't have one proven NFL starting caliber QB on our roster ? I don't know if BQ ready but he is by a large margin better than CF or DA and is the future QB for the Browns...

Can anyone explain why Savage hasn't landed a verteran QB to short term start and mentor our young QB's over the past few seasons? They had more than adequte veteran back up's while he was a Rat...

I watch the 9er's with my 23 year old son, his team... Dorsey played much better with the 9ers, when he started than either CF or DA has in C town... Why send him packing when he knows the 0 better than the rest, has a good relationship with BQ and has performed better? Not that Dorsey is/was the answer but there have been several good veteran QB's that could have come in and steadied the ship while our new QB toys got ready...

This is a huge error in judgement by our FO, CS and organization. IMO. All opionions welcome... Lets rap...

I believe we had Garcia and Dilfer.. They both wanted OUT. It takes two to make a deal. Do you know any decent (or one) veteran that would come here to "mentor".

Not that I want him, but Leftwych can't be any worse than Frye or DA.

Hmmm... we DO have the Cleveland Clinic here, so if the staph infections don't kill him, we just *MIGHT* be able to keep his healt..... nah, it can't happen

That and whomever would be considered would need to be able to get up to speed FAST in a brand new scheme..... and by that time Quinn should be ready.

Just sit tight folks, there is some turbulence up ahead, but then it should smooth out.

Well we might as well address one of the problems instead of standing pat with Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson.

sadly...Ken Dorsey is exactly the guy I want here. for all those reasons you listed.

Frye and DA are carbon copies. and obviously their style of play is not the same at all, but theyre QBs that play the game and wont be gamebreakers, and wont do things to help you win. DA shows a little promise of a guy who could become that because he gets rid of the ball well, but he doesnt read the blitz.

Sadly I dunno what to think about Charlie. He just had a look on his face and a stance about him and an air about him that was just scared, and you cant ever have that.

I want Dorsey back though. I dont care how, I want him back

Dam...

Is that what this is about? Changing the QB is not this threads purpose...

I don't see get rid of anyone of our QB's anywhere here...

It is to discuss a veteran back up as a viable option for the Browns or any team for that matter... What is your take on this topic?

When I look at most every NFL roster you see a viable back up who can and or have performed or can manage the team when the stater goes down... Or at least guys who can compete for the starting job and will fit the mold of a viable back up...

IMO, having a proven back up is one of the answers to building a successful NFL team... A team that can win when the #1 guy goes down or one who can take the rains until the young stud is ready to go...The Browns don't and have that guy... And quite frankly they need a guy like that.

Garcia had an outsstaning year last year and is the starter for the Tampons... Dilfer has looked pretty decent and is doing a good job with Smith and the 9'ers...

You don't make that statement without backing source.

The problem is Romeo didn't name who is going to lead this team each sunday and commit to one QB. The QB is the general on the field, if one isn't committed to by the coaching staff, how is the rest of the offense supposed to sink up with changes each week. This team has yet to establish a leader. On the topic of bringing in a veteran, thats why we have experienced coaches. Our QB woes don't fall on Frye, DA, or BQ; but the staff.

Speaking of Dorsey ... I ran across this:

Cleveland Browns consider bringing Dorsey back
Posted by Mary Kay Cabot September 10, 2007 18:44PM
The Browns confirmed Monday evening that Brady Quinn's mentor, Ken Dorsey, was back in Berea and inside the Browns facility. But Browns spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz said no roster moves were made by Monday's 4 p.m. deadline.

Dorsey will most likely be re-signed on Tuesday. The Browns will then have to make another roster move to make room for him.

Question is, what will they do?

They have some options, including waiving punter Paul Ernster, who dropped his first punt Sunday against the Steelers. If the Browns feel Dave Zastudil (back) is ready, they can release Ernster and keep four quarterbacks for now.

But they can also release one of the quarterbacks, either Derek Anderson or Charlie Frye.

The Browns gave no indication Monday which way they were leaning.

I don't know who or when but I believe we try to trade Frye, dump Anderson and bring in a vet. This seems to me to be the best approach. It may take time and if we land a vet with success on his resume, we'll dump Frye if we haven't been able to make a trade. Think we're probably talking next year but who knows down the road. I hope Phil is laying the groundwork now.

Quinn will be starting - IMO, he won't do any worse going in now. But, we have paranoia in the FO, so they'll wait till mid-season unless DA blows up or gets hurt. Frye toasted himself - instead of going at it for his sake he succumbed to knowing he would lose his job and gave up on himself.

Quinn will be a good NFL QB because he understands how and when to deliver the ball to receivers. He'll make mistakes but the OL showed me they'll give him a chance to use his abilities (one of which is knowing how to take care of the ball) - much more so that other OL's we've had.

pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase can we re-sign him.

Hes smart...I dont care if he throws lefty, hes a smart QB and what we have is not particularly smart. Ken Dorsey is needed here...

Listen to me. Ken Dorsey. We need a cerebral QB here, i was really really really disappointed when we let him go. I thought it was a mistake. I wont say Im right. I have no idea. I dunno if hell improve us that much, but thats my amateur thought, and any chance to get him back Im going to jump on. I want him back. I think Ken Dorsey will improve us. He's smart, and i think will out perform what we have on the roster now. barring BQ...ive made it known I want him starting...AS LONG AS HE KNOWS THE OFFENSE. If not...definitely not. If thats the Case...Ken Dorsey. Start. Come On Down, youre the next contestant on be a temporary starter on the Cleveland Browns. but Please...

PLEASE KEN...Please tutor Brady. Please show him all you know. I know youre not the most physically gifted QB in the world, but if you show Brady what you know. I'll buy your jersey...I'll give you the money for it...You'll be my favorite Cleveland Brown since 99. PLEASE come back

Guess I should have put this here instead of the Quinn thread.

Just a random thought. Does anyone think that after Quinn does get in that we need to bring in a vet and cut Anderson or keep Anderson and Cut Dorsey.

I really think we should have looked into bringing in a more experienced vet than Dorsey. I think we should have looked into bringing in a Drew Bledsoe or even a Vinny Testaverde to ride the pine and help bring along our rookie. I just look at it as Dorsey has been here and our quarterbacks have not shown any improvement. We need to bring in someone with a little more experience.

I don't at all.

Once we finally go with Quinn...be it this week or in 5 weeks, we don't need any controversy for a few years.

You need it set in a way nobody wants the reserve qb to come in unless the guy is hurt.

Teams have to commit to the starter 100%. If not, welcome to the nightmare.

Quinn is it for a good while once we go that way.

And it should be.

Oh I agree.

Who would want Bledsoe or Testaverde to come in anyways. Just make it known to them before hand they are strictly here for guidance. Believe me even if Quinn started playing bad I sure wouldn't be calling for either of those guy's to take his place. Not that I would be calling at all.

That's why I think we should get rid of Anderson after the bye and bring in a seasoned vet. Nobody is going to be calling for Dorsey or either of those guy's.

Tim Rattay...I'm not sure he's in football.

Dorsey is perfect - Rattay is a WCO QB thats the only system he's been in. He was lost in that system I don't expect him to get better in ours let alone mentor BQ.

Actually Dorsey replaced Rattay in SanFran as a rookie.

Dorsey has always been the perfect mentor for BQ...it was a matter of a roster spot and now we have cleared that.
