Hey it only comes around every three years.

Yes, the U.S. women are in. Their first match is Tuesday against Thailand. It looks like 3 pm EST.

The U.S. women are good and are huge favorites against the Thais (pronounced “tys”)

My son is in Montpellier France for the month in his study abroad program. A couple of the matches are within walking distance of where he's staying....won't be able to catch the US, though. He's at the same place Nostradamus studied.

Yes, taking a year of study in Europe is very smart. Especially for a boy. (There are many more girls who do this)

Lots of benefits. Good move.

Huge fan of our US women’s team. They should definitely be getting paid more than our trash ass men’s team. They actually win games.

I've been able to watch all the games so far. France and England both looked pretty good, several have not. France is directly in the way of the US if both teams win their groups. The same France team that beat the US badly in January. There are several teams that are very good that haven't played yet.

It'll be an interesting tourney

My son's going to the team Canada game tomorrow. This women's WC is pretty big there in France, it's sold out.

USA just gave them the worst beating in World Cup history.

Go team!

Running up the score is seldom a wise idea. There will be people who took note of this. Coulda, woulda, shoulda stopped at 7 or 8...

I tend to agree but goal differential counts as a tie breaker.... I wasn't a fan of the two late goals but overall great game

I understand the concept of goal differential, but that should not be in play for the U.S. team to advance to the knockout stage. They built up no 'goodwill' by this result and this could possibly come back to bite them in the butt in later rounds. They might not receive the advantage on a controversial call from the officiating crew...

Yeah, the 13-0 U.S. victory over Thailand wasn’t pretty.

But what ya gonna do?

I think only 3 substitutions are allowed in FIFA World Cup competition.

Your starters are gonna go full tilt every minute. (they way you want them to)

Otherwise, the U.S. probably would have played every player in the second half after, say, 8-0.

And if the bench players keep scoring. Well, that’s fine.

And of course there's that unlikely event of the need for a goal differential tie breaker.

I have always been of the mindset - if you are playing a COMPETITIVE SPORT (especially at the highest level), if you don't want the score run up, stop them.

I don't like scores being run up in pee wee, or little kids games, don't get me wrong. but when its the highest level of the sport, I am not going to tell my players to take it easy when they will certainly need the practice moving forward.

Well put.

You never want your players on the field and not playing their absolute best.

Oh well. Chile next. (Not until Sunday.)

Take the U.S. minus the points.

I had no problem with the late goals.. the celebration of those goals, on the other hand, I thought was a bit much.

really tired of the snowflakes on the media and around the world whining about the US team dominating thailand like that.

i get the celebration aspect. hey, after the 8th goal or whatever, just high hive each other and run back on defense.

but the scoring aspect? screw them. if they could've scored 20, i want them to do it. its not the US teams, or ANY teams responsibility to make sure their opponent plays defense.

they are grown adults playing at a professional level. the goal is to win the WC, and DOMINATE while doing it.

I think most people had a problem with the celebrating, not really the number of goals scored. Someone on the radio had a poll about it and it was like 60% No Problem, 35% Celebrating was the issue, 5% the number of goals.

Australia vs Norway was a really good game today. Norway won on penalty kicks.

Watching the USA men right now vs Trinidad & Tobago, up 1-0 at the half in Cleveland.

Good win for the US over Spain.. I only got to watch parts and pieces but they didn't look particularly good.. and it's great to get an ugly win out of the way.

So the U.S. women advance by beating host France (ranked #4 in the world).

England had their chances to equalize and extend the game into OT. Shame also that Lyon is literally 500+ miles from London, yet the crowd seemed to be mainly Americans. Poor show. I think the majority of football fans in Europe have yet to fully embrace the women's game.

When I saw the play that triggered a review in realtime, I laughed at how badly the England player missed, but on replay, that was a penalty. I'm glad they got it right.

Also, amazing stop on the PK. Everyone on the pitch knew it, that was the best chance England was going to get and they blew it.
