If so, name the two.

we have many saying that we are way over rated by the Sports Journalists...but in fact they do not believe just like some on this board. Vernon and Garrett never played together. Neither has Richardson and Larry. So since there isn't an existing fact and it must be derived by actual NONE USE OF STATS...The journalism field is not one to anticipate without STATS.

jmho - Its going to be fun proving new FACTS about our team wink

By Tandem I'm thinking a group of two, so I'm sure Myles is one of our pass rush specialists, but which of the other 4 or more prolific defensive lineman do you pair with Myles?

Garret and Vernon were ranked something like 13th and 15th edge rushers last year.

Garrett was 6th in sacks in the NFL...Vernon was never big on sacks he seemed to make other better and did not have the support. Same could be said of Garrett...now with them playing with a collective pass rushing team also keep in mind we will be SCORING this year. LIKE NEVER BEFORE...this will create the environment of teams not running in the 4th quarter because of the woeful Offense but teams having to pass more n more due to them falling behind which we have not experienced before but it will create a shark full of tanks atmosphere on our part and we got the best White Sharks not these bull sharks!

lol laugh

I could care less where there ranked now ... as long as they end up at or near the top of that list when the season comes to a close I’ll be an extremely happy camper .... thumbsup

Not a fan of Bucky Brooks so I understand why Garrett and Vernon aren't listed thumbsdown

Why would you not like Brooks. Dude played the game and he was a scout. Very few media members know more about football than he does.

I think his rankings are just fine. Vernon hasn't been so great the last couple of years and Myles has yet to explode.

Bucky has been off the last few years. I don't like his work as much as I once did. Far more willing to grab the low hanging fruit (Donald and Fowler aren't a top pass rush tandem. It's just the best pass rusher in the league and a guy on the same line who has largely been disappointing). Far more meh on his draft work, too.

I wonder if it's because Mayock got the GM gig with the Raiders and there has apparently been noise that Jeremiah has generated high levels of NFL interest too.

I've read that both Jerimiah and Todd McShay are candidates for front office positions with the Jets. Seems a little cray-cray to me. It's not obvious to me that television work prepares you for a managerial role in professional football. We'll see.

Bringing it back to the topic...
I know the Jaguars had a sub-par season last year but I'd put Campbell/Ngakoue on that list at #4. I'd put Garrett/Vernon on at #5. The reasoning for the Browns' tandem of Garett/Vernon over Buckner/Ford is neither have taken a regular season snap together but Browns > 9'ers. cool

What have they done together to warrant being on there?

They haven't done anything, yet.

I am willing to see the production at the end of this season where they will (fingers crossed!) command the attention and demand solid ranking. Unless we are rife with sacks spread out among the front, of course. On paper we should be great on paper. Let's see them do something. Back to you, Bucky!

I think you may be directing this to me. If so, the answer is they have done together just as much as Buckner and Ford who just ended up on the same team during this offseason.

I saw that also, I didn't expect to see the Browns on that list. On paper, we have that kind of talent, but until they do something on the field, they don't deserve to be there. JMO

That is how I am with all the rankings. Who cares what the bozo's predict...all they got is last years stats.

I will say this again. Bucky Brooks is not a bozo or a dummy. He played in the NFL and he scouted in the NFL. He is not some reporter who isn't athletic enough to play checkers.

I am not saying his list is correct, but he knows football.

and I'd suggest they shouldn't be on there, either... but even if you allow a tandem that hasn't been a tandem on the list, what are folks seeing that says our tandem belongs in that Top 5?

I certainly don't see a reason to include them in that Top 4. That 5th spot is the only one questionable. I'd venture that we "belong in the conversation", but we've done nothing to truly say we deserve a spot ahead of any of the pairs that got in.

I thought the Donald/Fowler inclusion was interesting too. Do both players have to be excellent? How about just really good? Or are we looking at the total contribution of the two players?

Aaron Donald is one of the best football players I've ever watched so I can certainly see including him and 'just a guy' based on total value. Depends how you look at it I guess-- doesn't really bother me either way.

My problem with San Fran being ranked number 5 is it purely based on potential. Just as it would be if the Browns replaced them. The only reason I can think of to include the Niner's instead of us is the historical/national perception of the two franchises. They don't particularly deserve it but even now I think they have more cache than Cleveland. This is after all, mainly a beauty contest. If you eliminated any tandem that hasn't been on the field together. I'd rank the Saints as a tenuous #5.

He is a Bozo in regards to using basically last years tandems and stats to rank them. Also did he take into affect the pressure and knockdowns involved not a regular stat recognized.

He naturally has transformed into the Bozo realm as he joined the ranks of Stats are for Losers...in his case are for Bozo's lol laugh
