Bad outcomes all over for Golden State last night. Glad for the Raptors! But I feel badly for the major, possibly career, injuries this playoff racked up on Play and Kevin.
Hope they are well and recover. I suspect this team will lose some folks next year.
"Every responsibility implies opportunity, and every opportunity implies responsibility." Otis Allen Glazebrook, 1880
Too bad about Klay. I didn't think it was "theatrics." He grabbed that knee immediately.
I don't think that injury was because they rushed him back. On the other hand, it seems likely that Durant's injuries were related, despite what GS is saying.
Either way, I don't like seeing guys get injured like that.
Right, there's 99% chance of no connection between Klay's right ankle and his left ACL tear, but the pain in the one side could have impacted his ability to land properly. Very unlikely, but you never know.
As for KD, Skip and Shannon were talking about KD's injury weeks ago on Undisputed. They were both guessing it was a partial Achilles tear. Shannon said KD looked back when he first injured it, as if to wonder who stepped/kicked him, which is common with Achilles tears. A calf tear, guys usually grab their calf and go down. Plus, when we saw KD with ice, it was always near the bottom of his ankle, never high up on the calf. So yeah, coming back too soon probably caused KD's injury. He knew the risks and his agent signed off on it, so it is what it is.
And like I asked last night, here's an article on Curry:
Sure, with KD and Klay out the Raptors doubled Curry and I wouldn't expect him to score 50, but some people still crush Lebron for not doing enough in 2015 and 2007 despite being the only guy on his team those Finals. Meaning, it's not fair to criticize either, but if some criticize one, they should do it to both.
Also, one little Curry note, since he did have a good look at the game winner last night...
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
If I remember correctly one of our series against GS curry came back early from injury and looked bad. I'm thinking they need a new medical staff on that team

I hope for Toronto he stays. He said some pretty complimentary things about Toronto and the team last night that made me think there's a chance. Prior to last might I thought no way.
The guy is now the hero of an entire nation. I was in Vancouver for part of the Finals, on the other side of the country, and it was a big deal there.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...
If he still wants to play in LA, or elsewhere, he should follow that desire. He will get a free pass from all of Toronto (like Lebron got when he left the 2nd time).
If you're asking if he should stay because the Raptors the best fit for him, that depends on where he might go. If he's willing to join Kyrie in Brooklyn, maybe they become one of the top 3 teams in the east. And with the Warriors run over, at least in 2020, going west is wide open as well.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
If he leaves, I think he goes to the Lakers. I think the guy is quietly a Lakers fan. He grew up in Riverside and went to college in San Diego. I get the feeling that the Lakers/Rich Paul are trying to orchestrate an Anthony Davis trade while picking up Kahwi in Free agency. That would give them a pretty formidable trio if Lebron can keep his age at bay for another season or two.
Also, if anyone wants an extremely enjoyable hour watch of something, go to Youtube and search for "Game of Zones, Season 6". I'd post the video directly, but there is some questionable language and I don't want to break board rules. Hysterical, and also some good predictions that came true.
Yeah, I hope he stays in Toronto too, but I don't think he will. It's been obvious he wants to pick his location, probably LA. And he should be able to do that, he gave San Antonio and Toronto a title each. He's earned the right to move without criticism.
Heck, since he tied Kareem and Lebron as the only three people to have a Finals MVP for two different teams, could you imagine him getting that with a 3rd team? I'd be considering that if I were him.

This would make me sick. The only fans worse than Warriors fans are Laker fans. This would be insufferable.
The more I read anything that mentions Rich Paul the more I have grown to dislike that guy.

I don't see what assets the Lakers have that are great options for an Anthony Davis trade. Their best trade asset comes with Lavar Ball firmly attached, and I would think that's a non-starter for a team looking to move on from drama.I think that Davis winds up in Boston, and Kyrie winds up in Brooklyn. I have a feeling that Kahwi will find it difficult to walk away from the defending champs.
I get a feeling that the Lakers are going to be Lebron and the B Team once again.

Which is what I hope happens, but who knows.
Listening to radio here (near LA-market) is nauseating because it's always about how the Lakers are going to land everyone and everyone wants to come play in LA, because "Lakers!"
I don't know about Kawhi, like I said, he realistically could be a quiet Laker fan that wants to come home and play for the team he liked growing up. He's honestly probably better off staying with Toronto where he's the man, and has a team that he knows can get through an easier EC and potentially win it all.
With AD, if he ends up getting traded for Kuzma, Ball and a 4th round pick, then it sort of blows up the whole notion that the Cavs would of made out much better in the Kyrie situation had Griff stayed on as GM.
I don't think the Lakers land a big FA this off-season. I think they will eventually land AD. Rich Paul has already said that Boston would just be a one-year thing because AD will go to the Lakers when he can. NO should trade him to LA. They have some young guys and the 4th overall pick.
Again, the reports are that Kawhi will go to the Clippers--not the Lakers--if he leaves Toronto.
--KD would be smart to stay in GS and collect the $31 million or whatever it is and then leave next year.
--I could see KD and Kyrie hooking up in either Brooklyn or w/the Knicks.
--Kemba Walker is willing to give Charlotte a discount. That's surprising.
--Bradley Beal is a guy to keep an eye on. Washington might be trying to move him this off-season.
--Guys like Jimmy Butler, Middleton, Tobias Harris, etc will draw quite a bit of interest as not quite elite guys. The Lakers might make a move for one of those guys. Middleton would make some sense because he is a good outside shooter.
--I wonder what is going to happen w/Klay? Wonder how much GS is willing to pay now?
--Another guy to keep an eye on is Michael Conley, the ex-OSU PG. Memphis will probably draft Ja Morant and Conley will be a great get for a PG needy contender.
Seems like Curry can't get the job done when it counts.
Quote:
This is not the first time Curry has failed to make a big shot in the playoffs.
As a matter of fact, since 2001, only nine players have taken nine or more potential go-ahead shots in the final 24 seconds of fourth quarters or overtimes, and Curry is the only one on the list without a make:

To add on to my earlier post, I think the Cavs will draft either DeAndre Hunter, the combo forward from Virginia or Jarrett Culver, the SG from Texas Tech. Maybe an outside chance they take Reddish from Duke, but I hope not.
I like both Hunter and Culver because both guys can fit into multiple systems and there is little doubt that the Cavs are going to be tinkering w/systems over the next few years. Not sure which of those guys is the best defender and if both will be available, but if they are, I would suspect the best defender goes to he Cavs of the two.
I finally got a chance to watch the final game in the Finals yesterday. I was so happy that the Raptors won! Would they have still done so if Klay wouldn't have gotten injured? Don't know, it was that close. Great game!
Regardless, it was good to see a different team on top for a change because like a lot of us, I'm sick of the Warriors.
Ya just hate to see a team and fan base like Golden State lose.
Hats off to the Raptors. Kawhi Leonard is amazing. Credit to the Raptors for saying screw it, let's try to win a championship when they traded for Leonard.
I haven't seen any comments from Golden State fans, mostly because they are probably boxing their gear up, and bringing the Laker gear out of the closet.
I thought Kevin Durant going to GSW was kind of a weak move. I mean, it's his right, and there isn't anything wrong with it, but it just seems like the easy way out by going to an already built 73 win team who had been to the finals twice at the time. But wow do I give that guy credit for trying to play. I know he has that player option for 31 million which would obviously take care of him the rest of his life, but considering he was probably going to look for a bigger and longer contract this summer, that is a risky move.
Steph Curry clanking that shot at the end of game 6 was just wonderful. I guess the spreadsheets were wrong. Very close to Kyrie's game 7 spot when he put his team ahead.
Hope Klay Thompson recovers. Obviously I can't stand him because he plays for that team, but he's a hell of a player, and the league needs guys like him.
More on Steph's legacy (these two don't bother me so much, better than CC).
If you look at the 5 times GS was in the Finals, they won 3 times, but 2 of those were a credit to KD, not so much Curry. And the 1 they won without KD, it should have the same "asterisk" on it like the GS fans are trying to put on the loss to Toronto (meaning, the Cavs were without Kevin and Kyrie). And when they won in 2015, Curry was shut down by Delly for most of the series and the MVP was given to AI.
As they say in the video, Curry may be the best shooter in NBA history (and the stats say as much). However, when it matters most, he didn't play as an all time great. He was good, maybe very good, but not great.

The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a deal to trade Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first-round picks -- including the No. 4 overall selection in next week's draft, league sources tell ESPN.
The deal represents a monster haul for the Pelicans and David Griffin, their new executive vice president of basketball operations, who maximized the Davis trade without the need to include a third team.

Lonzo is trash, IMO anyway. Heck, I don't like Ingram either. And 2 of the 3 picks will be late rounders, so those aren't worth much, maybe a role player.
So it's really Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and De'Andre Hunter (or Culver) for Anthony Davis. That makes sense considering Davis might be one of the best players in the game. Seems a little tilted towards LA.
New Orleans probably has this on opening night (I'd tune in to watch this):
PG - Holiday/Ball SG - Ingram SF - Hunter/Hart PF - Williamson C - Okafor
(I probably messed it up a bit, but that's what jumps out at me)
As for LA, they have James, Davis and Kuzma, not much else. Don't they have cap to add another max player? Tobias Harris or Kemba would be nice additions. As you said Vers, Leonard is probably going to the Clips. Not sure where Butler goes. Heck, Cousins could travel down the coast to join the Lakers if he's willing to take another "prove-me" contract (he's obviously an upgrade over McGee).
I still don't know what the Bucks are going to do. They can't sign Brogdon, Middleton and Lopez.

I don't know about that. I mean the Lakers are getting Anthony Davis.
When you bring Lebron on your team, you aren't looking at stacking picks and developing players. The Lakers will find role guys and vets, and are going to be really fun to watch.
So I wouldn't say fleeced, but I would say that it's great for the Pelicans to get some kind of assets for a guy who was going to leave anyway.
Huge deal. The Lakers are now contenders for the title.
Yeah, with KD done for 2020 and the Warriors probably being a 7th seed with Thompson out for most of the year, the Lakers title chances jumped up if they could get Davis.
Denver should be a bit better, Portland can only go so far and the Rockets are choking dogs until proven otherwise (Ha ha, I know how much you can't stand that Vers, sorry).
The Lakers are the clear favorite in the West, maybe the Rockets if they can add some defensive help but I think they're cap-locked pretty hard.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
The Lakers have a very tight window to make this deal a win. Lebron is 35 and the Lakers just gave up 3 first rounders. That's a ton of draft capital to give away when your star player is that age. If they don't get a ring in two years, they rebuild with zero draft ammunition.
It's a wait and see deal for me and maybe other deals/FA moves are in the mix.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
Not sure, it could go either way. I hear that the Pelicans have "swapping rights" for something like 7 years. That could be huge. The Lakers are on a really tight window. They still need another big signing like Kahwi Leonard to really be in the drivers seat.
But until then, they could be one extended injury away from being a lottery team again. And if things don't pan out in the next 2-3 years, who knows what happen with Lebron. That could really put the Pelicans in a good spot. They'll have Zion, and all the young assets they just pulled together, and if the Lakers strike out in 3-4 years, they'll have a bunch of top draft picks as well. Long term, that could really work out well for the Pelicans.
The Lakers are banking on getting one more big free agent, and going on a 2-3 year run while Lebron fights off father time. If they can get the third big name and keep everyone healthy, it should work out for them. If not, they're going to be in a world of hurt.

I suspect lebron will take a step back this year. Any NOLA team with AD on it is better than the lakers and they still couldn't win. AD has the propensity to be injured often, and the lakers have NOONE outside of lebron and AD, I still see them as a first round exit
