mayor pete kamala harris biden Warren Castro bernie sanders gillibrand corey booker klobachur ryan
i know there's gonna be another round of debates before they start cutting down, but right now those are the 10 with the most movement and realistic chance to get on the ticket.
my personal top 5 is:
Warren mayor pete Harris castro booker
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I find it funny and more than slightly odd that everything the Democrats have ever stood for you now call "R-Lite".
Quote:
Maybe 1/3, I'd even say 3-4 of these dems as POTUS would ever push for medicare 4 all and do away with private insurance.
If this is true, you are saying that some of those proposing this are lying. If so, I've seen enough of that over the past few years now.
I prefer a candidate that actually tells what it is they stand for. Something that actually sounds logical and plausible.
And during normal times you should expect that, but this is the Trump era. These dems can't have a divided party at the end of the day in 2020. They have to cast a wide net during the primaries to garner support across the left. Standing up there right now and acting like progressives are nuts would be the end of their bid, period.
I'm kind of amazed you can't see that.
As this process moves forward and this pack of 26(?) thins to a few, you'll get the more refined versions of who each truly are. Even Warren is not as progressive as she seems now. Kamala is somewhere in between and there is more than one centrist doing the dog and pony show on the trail right now.
Beto is a moderate dem on most things and he's getting NO Love at all. Biden is a moderate too. Pete is moderate to R-Lite on most things but has some more progressive views on certain issues. But when you have 20+ fighting for attention, they are all going to seem as open as the next to the more popular ideas that came out of 2016 and 2018; not many traditional "everything the Democrats have ever stood for" ideas fared well then.
unfortunately her toughest mountain will be getting the black vote.
im dead ass serious. the black community doesnt trust law enforcement, and trust prosecutors even less. and she has a very grey track record prior to her political service. my boy was telling me last night that she was sitting their trashing biden when she's the one with a not so friendly track record when it comes to black men and such.

I actually like Kamala but I think she will have a tough mountain to climb.
I like Kamala too but I think even if she wins the dem nomination the bigoted anti black and anti female vote tips the scale to Trump in the general. Sadly, not all of those votes are Trumpian by a long shot.
That's the thing about those who have worked in the court system or politics for a long time. They can always find something in your past to target.
I mean it's not going to be cheating on three spouses, paying off a porn star and a playboy bunny. You know, a really long history of being a sleaze bag or anything. But certain votes on things or certain prosecutions you took part in that they can use as a weapon against you.
That's why it's so much easier to elect someone with little to no experience. There's no track record to dissect.

That's more of a description of the mountain I was referring to.

The way they set these things up is a joke Everybody needs the chance to state their opinions or plans on each subject. Not be limited to other folks asking the same persons questions over and over while ignoring everybody else. It's no wonder we get crap candidates from both sides. The one who is the favorite of the people asking the questions has a huge advantage. Also the one who can out shout their competition has an advantage, and the one who just ignores the rules and keeps talking long after their time is up has a huge advantage.
These debates just end up wasting a lot of time as we can't get a real chance to examine each person and find out just where they stand on every issue and just who these folks really are.
i get that, but most, if not all, of the people who voted for trump the first time are gonna vote for him again.
so whoever the dem thats on the main ticket needs to be able to pull all of the independent/left leaning people that stayed home in 2016. cause whoever the Dem is WONT pull support from the maga hatters. thats simply unrealistic based on everything we've seen the last 2 1/2 years.
so the reality is that something like 50% of eligible black voters stayed home in 2016. might be more or a little less, but they didn't show up. so she's gonna have to do a LOT of explaining to do on her track record as a prosecutor if she wants black americans to come out and vote for her.
cause it can easily be LESS turn out than hillary's.
Mayor Pete and Warren have the easiest paths right now, not just for the nomination, but to actually beat Trump. but anything can happen from now until primaries.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
in the GOP debates, they spent 20 minutes arguing about whose dick was bigger on live TV.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
These early debates are Shine or Die for a field this big. At least half of them should have dropped out this morning, but they won't drop until they lose the platform of the debates. Some still won't drop even then.
I wouldn't be surprised if somebody like Andrew Yang or Marianne Williamson even tries a 3rd party bid instead of dropping out. Both sound like they are Green Party.
i get that, but most, if not all, of the people who voted for trump the first time are gonna vote for him again.
Here's one place we disagree. And even if it boils down to "most", most wont be enough.
There are several factors that helped Trump win and some of those factors simply won't apply the second time around.
I can't even count the people who said that Trump was just in "campaign mode" when he was running in 2016. That once he was elected he would "act more presidential". Those people won't be there for him in 2020.
There were those that bought the line, "Drain the swamp". As we've seen within his cabinet, there are more special interest people in positions of power in this administration than we've ever seen. It's has gotten so bad they had to post the bag limit for alligators on the south lawn of the White House.
The demonization of Hillary. The GOP spent years attacking Hillary. Calling her to testify and digging up every crumb that could find. While they came up empty on any charges, they cast a huge shadow over her. Yet the Democrats seemed determined to run her anyway.
The poor campaign. She neglected much of the working class in her campaign. She took for granted areas she considered strong and lost some of those places by a poor effort to reach those people.
And even with the table set for the GOP to win, they still lost by over 3,000,0000 in the popular vote. A grand total of 77,744 Votes in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan decided the fate of those three states. Over 4.5 million people voted in Michigan. Over 2.8 million voted in Wisconsin. Over 5.9 million voted in Pennsylvania.
As you can see, Trump needs ALL of the votes he got in 2016, not most. And we know that the average, working class person isn't seeing the same economic results his supporters are claiming.
When it come to the back vote I'm sure you're more well informed than I am. But i have heard that Mayor Pete is fairly popular among black voters. I'm just not sure why? If there's any insight you could give me on that I would appreciate it.

This in spades.
And now that Trump has acted even more despicably as POTUS - continued the name calling, the personal attacks, the "there are good people on both sides" .... the excuses for the Dictators of the world - Kashoggi murder, Putin, the death of USA citizen in NK .... now let's see if some with scruples will actually pull back. I gotta say I am not holding my breath no matter if the Dems put up a Leftie or a Centerist ... I don't think they care.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.
i disagree, although we both won't truly know until 2020.
the same people who said that are the same ones STILL defending trump. i haven't seen nearly the amount of pushback on trump's behavior by itself to think he won't get to 60 million + votes if the election happened tomorrow night, winning pretty much the same states he did last time.
and thats the thing overall. people said they voted for trump because of hillary. well, hillary isn't running, so its time to put up or shut up. the evidence says they seem to be ok with trump. so we will see next year.
what ive seen is people already coming up with the excuses as to why they will vote for trump again next year. there's really not anybody up there with character concerns that hillary had. so what happened? our favorite demonized word "socialism" made its way back, and now every person on the right simply throws that term out when discussing Dem candidates, and thats pretty much the end of the discussion as far as they're concerned.
again, i HOPE what you are saying ends up being true, but the evidence so far says trump wins re-election.
Mayor pete is liked by the community because he's somebody who actually had to have a working relationship with us. South Bend has a good percentage of black americans, and while it certainly hasn't been perfect, Mayor pete holds himself accountable and never blame anyone else for the city he is in charge of. you saw that on grand display last night.
he's gay, so he's also part of a minority group that hasn't been treated the greatest in this country from aspects of all demographics, including religious black and latino americans. and he actively speaks on issues that effect the daily lives of all americans, especially in struggling communities.
versus kamala harris, who is essentially THE extension of the man. a prosecutor, with a not so great track record with black americans in her jurisdiction. i mean bro, think about it...
from a prosecutor to a senator. no grass roots campaign background. she is THE establishment, the kind of person that is part of the reasons we're ALL in this mess to begin with, whether its economic or social.
thats a big thing she has to battle when it comes to getting minority support, especially black americans.
i know its just a sample, but i want you to just kinda watch the energy the breakfast club gives mayor pete, and then the energy they give Kamala harris:
kamala harris has a very tough mountain. a gay white dude is getting way more energy from the cookout than the black woman, because one is a grassroots outsider, and the other is a corporate liberal. the fact that she's black but has no advantage in her own demographic is not only eye opening, but potentially devastating to her campaign.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I missed the first night as we were driving back from Washington State. We tried to stream it on our phone w/aux cord, but it kept buffering and we lost interest. I'm sure I could find it on YT, but I can't be bothered. 90% of the 10 will be gone shortly. Warren, I am sure, will move on as will Castro from what I read.
Regarding night 2...I thought Kamala was really good. I also liked Pete B. I am still interested in hearing more from Yang, however. He just didn't have much airtime and for that I believe his campaign will be short lived.
The boomers and the DNC all want Biden, however. Before I get complaints from the boomers on this site...this ISN'T a knock on the boomers...they are a huge population who go out and vote so all I am saying is if they have their eyes set on a candidate it will be hard to get a foot in from the outside. Bernie did very well 3/4 years ago, but the boomers and the DNC wanted Clinton and they did whatever they could to get rid of him. This year, I think Sanders time has past and the DNC are not as worried about him. But, I truly believe that Biden is the "establishment" candidate and "establishment liberal" so the DNC will do whatever they can to get him the nomination. Sad, but true as I also think his time has past and he needs to just step down and let others take the torch and be the new leaders.
So far, based on last nights debate as well as various campaign vids/townhall stops that I have watched I am liking Kamala. But, it is early in the process and I need to know more about her. I know the left are critical of her time as AG in Cali, but currently I don't believe there is a candidate running the far left are truly behind. More to the point...Is this country ready for Kamala (or Mayor Pete, Yang, Castro for that matter)? This shouldn't even be a question in modern day United States of America...the most diverse country on earth. However, sadly it is.
i’m not ready for them but it has zero to do with what they look like, there sex or sexual preference ... if Mayor Pete or Kamala had trump’s views i’d vote for either of them in a heartbeat ...
I want nutting to do with Joe or Bernie either but thats OK in your eyes but as soon as i want nutting to do with Mayor Pete or Kamala I gotta be a racist or a homophobe ...
bro honestly i think the biggest thing going against him is the religious right, since he's gay.
i said before that the shooting is bad, but you have to give him credit for accountability and trying to fix the situation. the reality is that mayors and governors are always the ones who gets the calls first, not house members and senators.
you and i both know that any densely population city is gonna have these issues at some point. but again, he's not blaming anybody, taking accountability, and trying to rectify the problem.
that kind of character is something we've been SEVERELY lacking for a while in government as a whole, most certainly in the oval the last 2 1/2 years.
other than military, gabbard wasn't strong in the debates. and she got time to speak, but other than schooling ryan on afghanistan, there wasn't anything else.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I definelty tip my hat to mayor Pete on the accountability front ... there’s not enough of that in society and theres none of it from our goverment officials ...
I also think he’s getting hosed on the amount of blame he’s taking ... that w/o me knowing the ins and outs but the thing is i would guess most of the folks frying him have no clue ...
I believe he’s trying ... its just a tough butt spot to be in today ...
I think that may sink him ... we’ll see ...
It was an interesting two nights ...
I think it will end up being Miss Harris .... i guess Joe still has an outside shot ... IMO it all depends on how much O wants to save his legacy and throws his support behind him at some point ...
Wil be interesting to see how it all shakes out ..
mayor pete and kamala are worlds better than hillary as far as likability and character, so there's that at least.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
In the past it seemed the Republicans kept finding these cartoon characters who were total buffoons. The author, Marianne Williamson is the Democrats version. I'm sure her books are great, she has NY Times bestsellers, however, last night she was a joke. She didn't say much but everytime she did talk it was laughable & cringeworthy.
she was only up there because she is oprah's homegirl.
