even after the upheaval of changing coaches, HC and OC, mid-season. It really was a 'Tale of Two Seasons.' I don't think the importance of the way this team turned around can be overstated. The play became dynamic, unpredictable, innovative and exciting. And it happened like flipping a light switch. The plays were smart, and the execution was surprising. The two most important elements of the turnaround dynamic- the QB and Coach- are still in place. Everything else flows from that. IMHO, the trick will be figuring out how best to deploy all these new weapons combinations. There is enough potential fire power to keep all DC's on some dosage of Ambien. How it is distributed is the challenge here. This is prob gonna be one sophisticated playbook, and these young guys will need to become fast learners, or the first 2-3 games could have some real janky moments. A fast start early in the season would be helpful, but is in no way guaranteed. On paper, this team is an order of magnitude better than we've seen. It is still the NFL, and teams will not be sleeping when they take the field against Brownies. Every point will have been earned. 10 wins is doable. Potentially. .02

It will all change when the season starts.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!…. That did not age well.

You still trying to rewrite history. Ugh. Ok.
Anyway... these rankings are fine with me. A lot of the "low" ranking players are from the recent seasons. Many of our players haven't had a real HC. It's all just offseason fodder and fuel for our team. Last year about this time the Chiefs were also ranked about the same. This is no indication how the season will go.

I also see last year as two distinct seasons. I think this team we have now is the one that went 5-3 over the 2nd half. Extrapolated to a full season is 10-6. I agree 10 wins is doable.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

The Browns went 7-8-1 last year. Why is it so unreasonable that they'd be ranked 18th, off last year's grades?
Well we added Richardson, Vernon, OBJ, Eric Murray.
Then you have the natural maturation of Garrett, Baker, Chubb, Ward.
add in some good rookies that will show up Why not higher than 18# Just adding Vernon, Richardson and OBJ is a big boost to our roster.
Granted I agree if we had only our 2018 roster to be judged then I can see what you are saying. But we added some really really good talent!

Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

There is still only one ball on offense,
I think this makes the transition to Wilkes and saying good bye to Gregg Williams, and keeping the defense dominant, is so very vital.
No matter how great anyone thinks, the Mayfield offense, last year, and this year had/will have some 3 and outs.
If you have this offense, with Beckham, Hunt, Landry, Callaway, Chubb, Njoku, Higgans, Duke, and Harris.
If the offense goes 3 and out, But then the Browns defense can't get off the field! The more stars you have on offense in that situation, the more likely "Somebody's" going to be on the sideline upset that they didn't get a chance to touch the ball, and now the teams in a bad situation!
It makes the defenses' being able to get stops, the defenses' being able to create turnovers, ALL THAT MORE IMPORATANT,
So if Wilks' D is noticeably worse than last years D, then it's got the potential to get ugly and where do you go from there.
The defense is so Vital, so important this year, probably especially early,
I just looked, the Monday Night games are primarily early.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

We went 7-8-1 last year, with an ineffective HC and OC. I don't get why some think of 9 or 10 wins as some impossible task. All we have to do is win 1.5-2.5 more games than we did last year.
This year is a different year, and we should be better in all areas. Special teams should be greatly improved. Offense should be much better, with Baker, Chubb, and OBJ going from day 1. We were 3rd in the division in defensive scoring against, allowing 24.5 PPG. (Pitt 22.5, and Balt 17.7) Cincy was #30 in the NFL .... but we were in no danger of reaching Baltimore level last year. We did add some high quality guys on defense. We should be better.
There is also the confidence that come from not being the team that went 1-31, anymore.
I do happen to believe that the AFCN will still be a tough fight. I don't see any real pushovers. Even Cincy will be better, with Dalton back. However, every year something happens with a few teams that changes everything for a handful of teams. For us, last year, it was Baker improving, even after the upheaval of changing coaches, HC and OC, mid-season. Sometime changes are good, and sometimes they rip the bottom out of a team. This is the biggest question mark on this season.
However, if we have a mostly healthy season, I think that we can win at least 10 games. I don't think 9 or 10 wins is an impossible task... in fact, I put that as our most likely win total in Vers's old prediction thread. There are a lot of reasons the Browns should win more games than last year-- coaching, additional talent brought in, natural progression of younger players already here. There are also a few things that could keep this in check, such as injuries (where the Browns were fortunate in 2018), a more difficult schedule, and teams not taking us lightly. You could even put coaching here too as Freddie is untested in the head coaching role. We'll see what happens. I'm optimistic about this team, but I see people penciling us in for the Super Bowl or saying we are the most talented team in the league and I just think... not so fast. I mean, the optimism is great and all, but then if it doesn't happen some people aren't going to know what to do with themselves.

I am enthusiastic about the coming season. Heck, I upgraded my season tickets, so I'm literally more invested in the team going forward. That said, there are some sobering facts to keep in perspective. First (in no particular order), as good as the winning felt last season, especially as the season progressed, we still ended with a losing record. There is good reason to expect improvement, but how much? Second, of the 7 games we won, 6 were against teams that ended the season with a losing record. We beat the lesser teams of the league. Now, can we start beating the better teams? Third, the rest of the league has tape on how Kitchens plans and how Mayfield plays. They will be better prepared. Fourth, how good is the O-line. The loss of Zeitler will almost certainly weaken it, how much is a key question. Robinson played the best of his career. Has he found a new level or were the final 8 games of last year a statistical outlier for him? Of the O-line positions, only 2 are comfortably solid. Finally, fifth, can we stop the other teams from scoring? We were last in the league in missed tackles last year, 30th against the run, and 31st on special teams. Our offense is great, and the addition of Beckham makes it even better. I firmly believe the future is bright. But we have a lot to prove before we can claim to be among the league's best. I know we can get there. I know this year will be better than last. How good will we start the year? How much will we improve during the year? How good can we be by the end of the year? We won't know until we are playing games that count.
