According to the constitution the census must take place every ten years. In order for the forms to be printed, sent out and filled out during the 2020 calendar year, there isn't enough time to delay the census long enough for the SCOTUS to revisit the citizenship question.
Do you ever bother to actually research anything you say? There is plenty of time to print forms to be filled-out. Happens every year around tax time. Do you ever actually think-through an issue? According to the Trump admin, the deadline was the other day. That's the point. You can't use a deadline as reason the court must act now, then change the deadline when you don't get your way. It's over for the 2020 census. Better luck next time.

Once again, the census has never counted "citizens". It asks questions based on what is needed to be known to determine funding.

Once again, the census has never counted "citizens". It asks questions based on what is needed to be known to determine funding. It is a vehicle for obtaining information - including how many people live in the country. Why else would it ask for gender, relationship status, etc? If you want to draw a line between the words residents and citizens - legal and otherwise - then have at it. The issue with the citizenship question is adding the ability to obtain additional information - aka the purpose of the census.

So then why did the SCOTUS strike down the question? It has a conservative majority.
And let's revisit yet another thing you claimed. You claimed that the printing of the census could be put off until later. I'm pretty sure you didn't realize that I was telling you what the White House actually told the SCOTUS. They told the SCOTUS that July first was the deadline to begin printing the census. That was the reason the DOJ gave to get the SCOTUS to push the decisions up on their schedule.

The issue with the citizenship question is adding the ability to obtain additional information - aka the purpose of the census.
Do you know why we do not count US citizens living abroad in the census, unless they are federal employees? The census exists to determine apportionment of the states according to population. Any questions added on top may be useful for data gathering, but it is only convenience. The census exists solely to determine apportionment and nothing in the Constitution states we need to know how many men and women are in each state, or how many are citizens vs not. If adding a question to the census will discourage people from filling out the form, we are failing at our primary purpose for the census to exist.
