I called the ER about half hour ago.. I got someone working onnit. He said that he just heard about that story today when he got to work.. apparently word of my my escapades get around.
She's gonna get a gift card for 2 at Cameron Mitchell's restaurants.

She said she was just watching out the window at the right time and place. I need to track her down and find out who she is. There has to be something I can do for her
Hey Saint, I am fairly certain she doesn't "expect" anything, but I guarantee you she will truly appreciate it if you did a nice thing or three for her. I was a teacher for years and never expected anything from the parents or kids, but when I received a letter or if they contacted my administrator, I felt really good inside. So, I would suggest finding out her name and department. Send her a card, or better yet, a letter. Tell her how much her acts mean to you. Offer to buy her a coffee or lunch so you can chat. If she accepts, look her in the eyes and tell her how you really feel. I think you could also writer her superiors and talk her up. Tell them how you are spreading the word of what a great hospital it is and what an awesome nurse she is. Tell them they are truly fortunate to have such a great person working for them. This will mean more to the nurse than a gift ever would. Those who serve don't do it for the money or the glory. They do it because they want to help other people and it makes them feel good when they are acknowledged for doing just that. You have some time on your hands. Make that ladies day, Saint. Hmmmm.........just thought of something. She might be your "saint." From a nurse’s point of view. A card to the nurse and a box of chocolates for the nurse to share at the nurse’s station goes a long way. A letter to a superior is also appreciated. Nursing is tough work. We work hard and most days don’t get much for direct acts of appreciation. We often get more crap for the small ‘failures’ than we ever do for the big wins. So when we do it’s always welcome. As to tracking the nurse down for lunch or whatnot... it not anything we’re allowed to do. We’re professionally bound to nurse patient relationships. I have to turn down direct gifts often. It’s nothing personal. Accepting them can land me in trouble. Card and chocolates. If not chocolates, a gift basket with snacks and coffee and such that can be shared.

A letter to a superior is also appreciated. This is probably most important. Patient satisfaction is a driving force these days, and staff are recognized and rewarded when they get kudos from patients. Also Saint, you'll probably get a survey in the mail, and that's a great place to show your appreciation. Those go all the way to the top of the organization and are taken seriously.

I'll keep it short, I almost lost my son a few years back. He would not be here if not for the actions of the staff in an emergency room. He went in with a simple head wound (we thought) and was soon on a life flight. I went back the next day, gathered the staff and thanked them personally. There were very few dry eyes there. They said that was the most rewarding visit they had ever had. Cost me nothing, just a very heartfelt thank you following the update that their quick response had saved his life.

For the nurse involved, I would offer her a personal thank you, (and maybe some flowers) and a note to her supervisor, expressing your thanks for them having such a fine nurse.

I can't believe I didn't see this - I found out about his heart attack while sitting with him and his wife at the Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Evening at Express Live on Saturday.
