Not amazing, but nevertheless it was a good stop. The kick however was atrocious, very predictable location. Don't understand why White wasn't given the opportunity... superconfused

I expect the Netherlands game (as I assume they will beat Sweden) should present the toughest challenge yet to the U.S. team...

England have a VERY sad history of missing their PKs. It's just what England do in every major football tournament be it the Euro or the World Cup. I was totally not surprised when she went and duffed it. Been there, seen that, so many times. The English men's team rival the Browns in their number of painful, horrible losses in significant games. Today was the women's turn. Not surprised.

Okay, fair point. However, the goalie still has to make the save even guessing correctly. She did a great job keeping it under control too. The game was on the line and she came through.

Just a question I thought about today watching the Netherlands beat Sweden. If the Goalkeeper gets a red card, what happens? I know if a regular player gets one, the team plays a man down. Just curious.

They need to put someone on the field in goal. Normally, if they have substitutions left, they will sub a backup GK for a field player and then move them into goal.

If they have no subs, however, one of the other players has to drop back and play GK. Never seen this actually happen, but that would be very interesting, for sure.

Hard to believe today is the final day of the month long 2019 Women’s World Cup.

Back in 2017 when The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) scheduled today’s Women World Cup final, they undoubtedly took into account not interfering with today’s final game of the Ohio Cup.

Actually, I think the Tribe has secured the 2019 Ohio Cup with their win yesterday. (the Cup holder retains the Cup in the event of a series split and the Indians have already won 2 of the 4 games with Cincinnati this year)

(I wasn’t sure whether to make this post in baseball or soccer or Palus Politicas)

Sipping tea is classless.

Remember in 2001/2002 when some Euro soccer player put his arms out and pantomimed being an airplane flying into one of Americas, (or some teams), players.

Great job by the ladies, just overall they were a few steps ahead of anyone else in the tournament.

Netherlands really hung in there for a while, I kinda figured they'd wear themselves out with the level of pressure they were applying, but it was their only real shot.

If that happened, I'd consider that classless, too. Soccer players might do that crap, and it's a good thing they don't play hockey.

I was rooting for the Netherlands, to be honest.

I laughed at the Alex Morgan celly, but Rapinoe doing that arms out thing is kind of annoying.

Can't say I blame you. Team USA isn't a very likable bunch. But they are a cut above the rest of the field and deserved to win. I did enjoy watching the games. Does anybody dive more or better than Alex Morgan?

So a big topic of the Women's World Cup has been "equal pay". And when you look at the payouts to the players, there is a VAST difference between the men and the women. And if I was a woman and just looked at those numbers, I think I would be upset too. It is a HUGE disparity.

However, I did not "just" look at those numbers. I had to ask a question. How much money does the Women's World Cup bring in compared to the Mens? What percentage of money is paid to women as compared to men? Because surely there is room for growth and to get pay better. Did you see the stadiums filled for each game etc. The Women's World cup is a big draw.

Only the problem is...while it is a big draw. It does not bring in a lot of money.

Now these numbers come from Forbes, but they are similar to other sites I have seen like the New York Times. And I will be honest...the numbers did surprise me.

The Women's World Cup brings in to FIFA about $130 million. Not too shabby. Until you see that the Men's World Cup brings in over $6 BILLION.

And yes while the Women's Prize money from FIFA is about $30 million between the 24 teams...and the men's prize money to the players is $400 million (over 10X's more)...Look at the percentages 23% of the money made by FIFA went to the women players. The Men got less than 7% of what FIFA made.

Is it right for people to demand "equal pay" when the job they do brings in about 2% of money that another person brings in for the same job? I understand the outrage when you see someone making more for what appears to be the same job. But it really isn't the same job, is it?

I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

That's a good point. Maybe the US women should be looking at their counterparts instead of FIFA. The US games drew big crowds and US fans filled the stands. But if you look at the other games, there were an awful lot of empty seats, even when the close by European teams like Germany, England and Spain played.

Another point most don’t know ..

In the USA the men get 9% of whatever they bring in .. the women get 13% ...

So even though the men make more the women get paid a higher % ...

Its not the mens fault theres such a disparity in the size of the pie ..

The women’s team now generates more revenue

Since the debate first started, which was long before the lawsuit, critics have retorted that the women should not be paid the same as the men because the women generate less revenue. In a May court filing, U.S. Soccer used that argument, saying that the pay disparity is "based on differences in aggregate revenue generated by the different teams and/or any other factor other than sex."

But the women’s team has actually generated more revenue than the men’s since the 2015 USWNT’s World Cup win sparked a new level of American interest in the women’s game. According to financial reports from the U.S. Soccer Federation reviewed by the Wall Street Journal, USWNT games generated more total revenue than the USMNT games from 2016 through 2018: $50.8 million in revenue vs. $49.9 million for the men.

One of the popular refrains you hear now from those who are dismissive of the women’s fight for equal pay is that the women’s team only generated more revenue over the last three years because the men didn’t make a World Cup in that time. Well, yes. These are pro athletes, and it is their job to make the World Cup and go far in it. The women have performed their job better than the men for eight years.

Not sure I'm following you here.

The article you posted dealt with u.s. soccer. I thought the discussion was about world cup soccer. Or am I missing something important here? Perhaps I am - that's why I'm asking.

He’s leaving out the World Cup hauls from both teams ... thats where the disparity is ...

Using Pete’s math ...

The US women get a higher % of the 130 million the women’s WC brings in then the men do on the 6 billion the mens WC brings in ... the women get a higher % than any of the other women’s teams ...

Then the women get a higher % of the US women’s association has to pay out ... they get 13% ... the men only get 9% of what the mens soccer association has to pay out ...

I’m pretty sure the difference is in the 130 million the women get a cut of vs the 6 billion the men get a cut of ... *L* ...

I’m not sure why Pit even posted that article ... that 130 million is barely a drop in the bucket compared to the 6 billion .. and that makes the game revenue each team generated basically meaningless ...

The men are actually the ones getting hosed if u wanna be honest about it ... why do the women get a higher % of what their associations have to dole out? ... naughtydevil ...

Cool.

I suppose it's because 'every' sports player should be paid the same. Just like the millionaire should pay the same tax rate as the person making 20,000.......oh, wait.

As per usual you deviate away from the topic and post something that doesn't even belong in the Tailgate Forum.

Try and focus on the actual topic next time.

Ok. Are we talking World Cup soccer, or u.s soccer?

If the ladies get paid a higher percentage than the men, what's the problem?

Oh..........apparently mens soccer brings in more money. Only way to remedy that is for women's soccer to draw more money in. Right?

What's your answer to the situation? And please explain if it's WCS, US soccer, or what.

On the golbal scale mens soccer makes more money. Just not in the U.S.

I do know one thing. If they lost womens soccer the sport would be a shadow of what it is now.

See, I did all of that without resorting to comments on political based income inequality.

It's really just that easy....

I'm just quoting you arch. So did you decide to switch away from tax rates now? In case you missed it, I have zero plans to try to have a discussion with you at this juncture. I only try to hold discussions with those who actually wish to have open, honest discussion. That isn't you.

Or you.

Sorry, you haven't kept up, and focused on one statement I made. Perhaps your narrow mindedness of "I must be right all the time, or I'll change the topic" has caught up with you??

Still no answer to the question though, I see.

How does Pit fix the perceived problem?
