Has anyone tried speaking to the Browns about maybe trying to set up a DTD for next year? I am not sure who to call, but maybe one of us can call team headquarters.

You mean ask them if they'll sponsor a special day for a message board they have nothing to do with and are not associated with?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Meaning that this is probably one of the most populated message boards ..... and maybe they'll do something for a large group. Who knows?

You almost always get a no to the request you don't make.

I have not, and everyone that we used to interact with in Berea is no longer with the organization.

I guess my point was they stopped doing in for their own message board, much less someone elses. I mean if they wouldn't support such a function for their own sponsored message board, why in the world would anybody think they would do it for another message board?

See if GM can dig up a contact and a number .... or ask him if he’d be willing to ask one of his contacts go ask for us ...

If not, get me the info and i’ll call if u want .. just don’t let Pit call ... *L* ... he reminds me of my father .... always with the negative, don’t bother trying .... pffffft ....

I’d imagine our chances are beyond slim but if we don’t try there nil .... beyond slim isn’t much better than nil but its still better ... thumbsup

Why not?

I'l try and call someone at the Browns and see if maybe we can see something up for next year. Can't hurt to try.

Sometimes realism and pessimism can be eerily similar. GM even posted that he highly doubts anything will come from it.

Are you sure you want him to call? wink

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to call or contact? Maybe we could get together a group email/user petition or letter

No doubt that was the reason. If you have an official site, you don't want your message board fans calling your QB a chunk of crap, which I did at least a few times over the years...

Things change. I don't blame them. At first it was to unite fans behind the new Browns. Cool. After a few years it became something different and time to shut it down.

This is a funny assumption. The administrative side of the Browns barely peeped at the message board at that point, and were rarely very involved before that point. They could not have cared less what people were posting on the board.

Most of the NFL teams started shutting down their message boards around that time and the Browns followed suit.

Well, something caused the team and other teams to decide to shut down the team boards. I doubt it was cost, and I doubt it was because the reviews were too glowing.

Maybe it was because they had no control over the content, and we all know the NFL like to be in control.

Anyway, good to see you around! smile

Yeah, IIRC the content became trashy and more vulgar/idiotic ... less talk about the team, games, etc and more trash talk

The team probably didn’t like to be connected to it

OBR would get more props by the Browns than here, they already write for some acclaimed sites and have organized attendance with Press passes to training camp.

this site is much more intimate though with different opinions mostly with good football logic...of course it does veer off in personal vendendas from time to time.

I agree ... OBR is probably more popular/known, but this site is more family/friend type feel ... this is the board I default to and feel much closer to as a fan

I post here as well. I have 27,000 listed, but my account was hacked or deleted by someone maybe 10 years ago on the other board. At that point I probably had 25,000 posts, so I am one who is near 50,000 posts on the combined board.

I never liked the OBR board or whatever it was called back in the day. Have not visited that board in years.

I belong to the Browns Board. I joined that one in 08. I can't remember if that was about the time this board had server issues and was down for a time or if something irritated me and just decided to look around.

What attracted me to that Board is they sponsored tailgates for out of towners. They went on the honor system. Let them know you were coming and they cooked the food. You put money in the jug when you left. They didn't have a cost. Leave what you felt right. I did a lot of cooking at the old DTI, but got tired of packing up stuff and lugging it 600 miles. The idea of them cooking the food and having the beer sounded great...and it was great. They had big crowds. Like 70-80....but that became a chore. I became a friend of theirs and helped set up, cook, etc. That part finally ended about 4 years ago. The still party down in the flats near the Flatiron, and I still go down there to say hi a few times a season, and still post on the board. Maybe 8,000 posts there...2-3 have become really good friends.

That said, this is my board. Some of us were much younger men and women when we started doing this. LOl...we have grown old together...or maybe I should say older together. I might be the one getting old. Some say they stated in 7th grade. If I busted your chops when you were a 7th grader, I am sorry. Had I known I would have shown a bit more decorum.

Anyway, I love all of you personalities, even if it is a board personality I don't like, if that makes any sense.

In real life, I am fairly certain we could sit at a bar, tip our glasses as we hoisted a beer or bourbon and walk away thinking he/she is a pretty good person. Assuming you are old enough to do that. I am not going to tip glasses of beer with a 15 year old. Sorry, not going to happen. For you, it best be a Coke.
