I think the question is really why some posters get away with it frequently and others don't once in a while.

It is your opinion that I was pissed. It is not true so does that mean you are posting a rumor? Should I sue you for slander?

Tell me what part of my post did I not know. To spell it out again...one part was saying that I'd heard something which i did and the other was that it was revolting which was my opinion. And I would still like to know why some posters get special treatment by always being allowed to post rumors. If they are not allowed, perhaps we should start reporting all of them. Yes, that could work.

I believe I do, that's true. I would just like someone to ADMIT that they let certain posters and posts slide. I know they read the rumor posts.

So...why are certain people allowed to post rumors about what they hear in the Browns organization?
I have very, VERY close ties to some people in the Ohio State football organization...does that make me allowed to post rumors about them?

I have stayed off this thread for a reason. I essentially agree with the posters who are questioning this deletion of a post and wanted to discuss this more with the other refs. Our schedules are such that this hasn't been easy recently.
No doubt, it's a gray area as we have allowed inside information to be shared and have let the posters determine if they wish to believe it or not. In general I have always handled it in this way, if someone starts a thread with rumor, hearsay, "inside" information, etc., I delete it. If it falls within a thread and is not wildly inflammatory or off the wall I let it stay.
We have had player's families and long time posters with some knowledge of people in the organization who have given some very interesting information. If we make it black and white those posts will have to go also and I think that would be a shame.
I guess the thing is, the posters on the board would have to accept that this will be an area that is subjective and our opinion in making those decisions. Please feel free to give your opinions on this and we will take them in to consideration. I certainly understand both sides of the argument.

Well stated. You and I don't see eye-to-eye often (esp. in the case of picture threads), but I completely agree with everything you have to say here, and keep this one of the few items that is subjective for the Refs.

It's worked just fine around here for years allowing the tidbits of "rumor". I say leave it as it is/was. I didn't see the original post by iambrown to know what happened there, but from my understanding, it was nothing that warranted a deletion.
My vote: Unless it's a blatant rumor, let it go. I don't want some of the stuff from players wives and certain others edited when it's not really a rumor. But these people shouldn't be the only ones to get the right to post "rumors" either.
Whilst we're on the subject of moderation, I think we (the posters) also need a better understanding of name-calling since that debate was never exactly settled. Is calling someone a "big whining baby" and asking them if they need a diaper change considered name calling?
