I decided to post this here.

So, apparently a bunch of people from the Supporters Section (the very rowdy and loud people with the flags behind the goal) decided to bring some flags to the game protesting a subgroup of the opposing teams fans who apparently support White Nationalism.

They knew the flags would be taken away, but apparently like 20 people got dragged out at halftime. By force.

And it's all being kept hush hush. They even ejected people who recorded it.

WTF??? I didn't see it because I was getting a drink at halftime, and I wasn't close enough to that section to read their flags. I just saw the normal flags.

Anyway, I thought you might like to hear about it from people who were there.

Apparently they protect the white supremacist group? They’re an offshoot of the proud boys.

There’s lots of articles on the specific group. They’re known as the Empire Ultras.

I find this really disturbing.

Half the reason I get into sports is to get away from all the world's crap.

I am upset that NYCFC doesn't do anything about this. I'm not exactly sure what they should do beyond condemn it. But they should do something. And the MLS as well.

Also, I'm proud of our Supporters who flew their protest flags today. They should never have escalated it though. Nobody needs to be dragged out and banned. That's a bit over the top. Just hand the flag over.

Soccer has often had a White Nationalist/National Front and very racist underbelly. Look at the hooliganism in the 70s and 80s in England. There was a skinhead element there that was often behind it all. And, even now, those most hateful, far right fans often fly the St. George's Cross flag, which is seen by most English people as very questionable and borderline fascist.

So, I'm not surprised as the MLS desperately wants to adopt European soccer club traditions and this is just another thing they have probably imported.

This bothers me. At least we are the good guys. NYCFC needs to do something as does MLS.

Also, now I am a bit concerned because we have to play them again, in their house.

They better have some good security.

j/c--------Kinda/sorta

I don't think this has anything to do w/supporting White Nationalists. I think they were probably thrown out because teams don't want their games to turn political.

This is not such an uncommon event. I was reading a story last week about a similar situation at a baseball game. Let me go see if I can find it.

Here we go:

Quote:

Major League Baseball
Fans who unfurled ‘Trump 2020’ banner at Baltimore Orioles game escorted out of ballpark

By Scott Allen
August 2

Four fans who unfurled a banner supporting President Trump’s reelection during the eighth inning of Thursday’s Orioles-Blue Jays game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards were ordered to remove the banner and escorted from the ballpark by Baltimore police and stadium officials.

Orioles policy prohibits displaying banners during a game, except between innings, and states that “banners are subject to confiscation if the content is commercial, political, and/or in bad taste according to the Orioles’ discretion.”

The red, white and blue “Trump 2020” banner unfurled by four fans standing in the first row of the club level along the first base line featured the phrase “Keep America Great!”

The banner was displayed for less than 10 minutes, according to the Baltimore Sun, which noted that some among the crowd of 9,716 chanted “Take it down!” before police and stadium officials told the fans to remove it. The banner was draped over the club level’s facade as Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run off Blue Jays reliever Jason Adam in Baltimore’s eventual 11-2 loss.

Thursday’s incident came during the Orioles’ first home game since Trump took aim at Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) on Twitter last Saturday, when he called the African American lawmaker a “brutal bully” and claimed conditions in the Baltimore congressional district Cummings represents were “FAR WORSE” than those at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump, who on Friday seemed to make light of reports that Cummings’s Baltimore home was burglarized early Saturday morning, has also described Baltimore as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”

A video posted on YouTube on Thursday night showed police officers telling the fans to remove the banner after Mancini’s home run. Others in the stadium booed and chanted “Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye” as the four fans were led out of the section. An Orioles spokeswoman confirmed the fans were subsequently escorted out of the ballpark.

“Six more years!” one of the fans shouted as he stuffed his rolled-up banner into a bag. “He’s still your president!”

Many teams have policies prohibiting certain messages on banners. In 2017, protesters at the Nationals’ home opener displayed an “Impeach Trump” banner after Washington’s win over the Marlins. It was quickly confiscated by security as a violation of the Nationals’ guest conduct policy.

Yea, sports teams don't want any political stuff at their events.

This might not be received well, but I don't want to see political or religious messages when I got a game, the theater, etc.

I just want to have a good time and not think about crap like that.

Well most people don’t want to see that stuff. I certainly don’t.

However, I do push back at some people who claim there’s hasn’t been politics in sports before.

The Olympics certainly had its fair share. Soccer in Europe.....I mean it can get biblical in Europe sometimes, and they use soccer as the vehicle.

We’ve always had athletes use their platform to advocate for those who have no platform.

So I tell people all the time that I agree politics shouldn’t be at the games.

But the best way to prevent that? Do what we’re supposed to do as a nation so that athletes don’t feel the need to do it to begin with.

Like that fencer who just kneeled during the Atheneum while they were getting their gold medals. I feel it so hard. Yea it sucks...but I certainly understand why he did it, and support it.

To each their own. I just don't like having stuff forced down my throat.

I don't want to go to a ballgame and see a Trump poster.

I don't want to see religious signs.

A few weeks ago, I was running at the Lake Murray Dam and I pass this guy who is holding all these pamphlets. He starts running beside me and starts talking. I'm jamming to Papa Was a Rollin' Stone by the Temptations and this guy starts calling me "Brother," and tries to get me to take his pamphlet and attend his church services. I was trying to be nice, but he wouldn't stop. I finally had enough and said:

"Hey brother, get the f... out of my face."

Portland Timbers banned AntiFa signs and symbols from their games. Of course, they also banned far right /Trump signs too, but you never saw those at our games anyway.

People go to a soccer match ....to watch soccer.

Pretty sure nobody wants to see the police come and beatdown a group of fans and drag them out.

For the most part yes. But others also have the right to go to that match and say what they want to say. Who are some of you to try to tell others what they can and cannot do with their fame? All I am saying, the world doesn't revolve about what "you" want to see or don't want to see.

You have every right not wanting to see the protestors - then stay home.

Portland Timbers stadium banned ALL political signage and symbols. As the city is left leaning they reached out more so to the local Antifa and the Timbers Army who may sympathize with their politics.

I dont make the rules. The MLS does. And the rules say no political displays. If you dont like their rules, then dont go. Real simple.

It's odd you say that. So you're saying when a business owns or pays a lease on a stadium, that business has no right to set the standards, rules and guidelines that people can and can not conduct within the stadium they have a legal right to do so in.

Hmmmm.....

I don't know what they were in the 40s and 50s but a lot of groups have their cause/methods shift over time.

My problem with them is that they use fascist tactics to advance their agenda... violence and threats of violence, intimidation, destruction of private property.. I believe they are more pro-anarchy than they are anti-fascist at this point..

Or to put it more bluntly, they seem like a bunch of punks who get their rocks off covering their face and breaking windows and torching cars...

That's my godson's take:

"See a Nazi/drop a Nazi."

6'4". 240. Inked from scalp to ankles. Big 'country strong' White Boy.
Kindest, gentlest father to his two little girls you'd ever want to see.
Will cave in a supremacist's skull in half a heartbeat. With extreme prejudice. And no hesitation.

"The best moment is when they start to cry. I ask them boys: how proud are you now?"

I try to talk to him about it. I remind him of his little girls. He says he's doing it so they don't have to live around garbage.

"Besides... I can go all mellow when I'm old like you. Until then, I'm puttin' Tiki Torchers in traction."

youth... just can't reason with'em.

p.s. My Boy isn't AntiFa. He (and a couple friends) are independent contractors.

Well you got me there. Feel better? You cry like a baby everytime I bring a little criticism at you, but you can drop my name and talk down about my beliefs at every turn and I'm supposed to let the high and mighty (only in you mind) Vers just bash me at any time. Screw that.

Your problem is you can't take the heat, you just want to be the cool cat in the middle pitting each end against the other. I read your post in Pure Football, you do the same crap there. Always the victim. Always. You never look at the crap you spew and see your own hate but you can point that finger like a champ! Guys like you are why they started using the thumb and index finger to make the 'L' symbol.

Now I have no issue getting along with you and have for years. But you throw shade, don't expect me to lay down for that crap. So man up or shut up.

Not me, like I said, I have no issue getting along. Just stop dropping my name and bashing my beliefs and we'll be cool. I don't need to lash out at you, but you provoke it. You need to be confrontational in your kumbaya way, not just in here but all over the board. lol, you have 41K posts and I'd lay odds that 1/4 involve some kind of confrontation.

So, yesterday was rivalry day in mls.

Seattle vs Portland is a huge rivarly.

And this was taped to every seat in the Supporters Section. The game was in Portland.

(loudest fan groups who lead the cheers for the whole stadium)

I was at the bar, so this game was on, but not the sound, so I dont know if they didnt cheer.
